  68. These are just some of the exciting new features implemented in version 1.20--

  70.     NEW: Server-side image map exploration!  Teleport Pro can now explore
  71.          server-side image maps, and will actually convert the server-side
  72.              map into a full client-side map.
  73.     NEW: Automatic connect, disconnect, reconnect system allows Teleport
  74.          automatically to connect to, disconnect from, and maintain connections
  75.              to the Internet as necessary.
  76.     NEW: Dynamic relinking system lets Teleport relink HTML files so that links
  77.          for unretrieved files point either back to their original Internet 
  78.              location, or to a message that explains why they weren't retrieved.
  79.     NEW: DOS-style 8.3 filename linking lets Teleport write links for systems
  80.          that do not support long filenames.

  94. SPECIAL NOTE:  NEW FILE UPDATING SYSTEM

  97. Probably the most noticeable change in Version 1.20, for users of older
  98. versions of Teleport Pro, is that Teleport no longer has separate Start and
  99. Refresh buttons.  Both functions have been incorporated into a single Start
  100. button.
  101.  
  102. When you now Start a project, Teleport will scan the project database looking
  103. for files that match your retrieval specifications, but which have never
  104. before been received.  If it finds any such files, it queues them for
  105. retrieval and begins running as normal.
  106.  
  107. If, on the other hand, Teleport doesn't find any unretrieved files that it
  108. needs to get, it shifts into "Update" mode and scans the database for files
  109. previously retrieved, but possibly out-of-date, and queues those for
  110. updating.  When updating, Teleport gets files only if the remote server says
  111. that they have changed, since the last time Teleport retrieved the file.

  113. To give you more flexibility, Teleport uses additional rules for determining
  114. when to update files.  The new Update settings can be found on the Project
  115. Properties, Exploration page.

  119. NEW UNLIMITED UPGRADE POLICY

  122. Because of the confusion over whether and when registered users will be
  123. eligible for free upgrades, we've decided to make it simple:  All upgrades
  124. to Teleport Pro are free for registered users, regardless of version number.

  126. Also, the unregistered per-project file limit has been doubled to 200 files.

  130. CONVERTING OLDER VERSION PROJECT FILES
  131. ======================================

  133. Beginning with Version 1.20, Teleport Pro uses a new, more compact database
  134. structure and a new type of project file (.tpp file).  Teleport Pro will
  135. automatically convert project files created by older versions of Teleport
  136. Pro -- but once saved in the new v1.20 format, these project files will
  137. become unusable by the previous versions of the program.  If you plan to
  138. keep and use older versions of Teleport Pro, be sure to save a copy of your
  139. project files in their original format before you open (and then save)
  140. the files using Version 1.20 or later.

  144. A NOTE ON JAVA SUPPORT
  145. ======================

  147. When you run SETUP to install Teleport Pro for the first time, it will create a 
  148. "bin" directory in the folder where you install Teleport Pro.  This bin will
  149. contain two files, CLASSES.ZIP and JAVAP.EXE, needed for Teleport to retrieve
  150. Java applets.

  152. DO NOT UNZIP the CLASSES.ZIP file!

  156. 32-BIT WINSOCK REQUIRED
  157. =======================
  158.  
  159. At this time, Teleport Pro requires that you use a 32-bit winsock dll for
  160. your Internet connections.  In most cases, the Windows 95 Dial-Up Networking
  161. system will satisfy this requirement.  Some third-party winsocks, such as
  162. Trumpet, are also compatible with Teleport Pro.  If you are unsure of whether
  163. you are using a 32-bit winsock connection, contact your ISP or the
  164. organization that provided you with your connection software.

  166. Some third-party utilities can convert between a 16-bit winsock and an
  167. application like Teleport Pro that requires a 32-bit connection.  One such
  168. program is "connect-WSOCK32", a shareware utility available at

  174. MICROSOFT WINDOWS 95 BUG NOTE
  175. =============================

  177. Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in the Windows 95 operating system may
  178. cause your computer to crash while using the Internet.  The bug slowly leaks
  179. resources each time a connection is established to the Internet.  Because
  180. Teleport Pro establishes many, many connections to the Internet while
  181. running, it is important that you install a patch from Microsoft that
  182. corrects this problem.  Microsoft makes the patch for United States users

  196. MICROSOFT SERVICE PACK 1 BUG NOTE

  199. Microsoft's Service Pack 1 contains a bug that can corrupt your system
  200. registry if you use Dial-Up Networking, or if you run applications that
  201. access Dial-Up Networking registry information (as Teleport Pro does).
  202. Microsoft has released a patch that corrects this bug.  The patch can be

  209. MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 3.0 BUG NOTE

  212. Microsoft has confirmed that a bug in their Internet Explorer 3.0 Beta 2
  213. causes other applications' toolbar buttons to display as if disabled.
  214. Teleport Pro users will notice that the Refresh, Start, Pause, Stop, and
  215. Abort buttons of those programs will not appear to function properly if
  216. Internet Explorer 3.0 Beta 2 has been installed (although the buttons will
  217. continue to work).

  219. Microsoft has now released the Final Version of Internet Explorer 3.0.  This
  220. version corrects the toolbar bug in Beta 2.  Tennyson Maxwell strongly
  221. encourages users who still have the Beta 2 version to pick up the final
  222. version (it is free) on Microsoft's website.  A link to the proper page can

  229. REGISTERING TELEPORT PRO
  230. ========================

  232. Teleport Pro is shareware.  You are granted a free license to use this
  233. software 40 times, after which the license and the software both expire.  If
  234. you decide that you like Teleport Pro -- and we hope that you do! -- you can
  235. register it, keep it, and use it as much as you like.  Registering the
  236. program is just like buying it. There are really two good reasons to
  237. register Teleport Pro:
  238.  
  239.    1.  The program, and your license to use it, expire after you have used it
  240.        40 times.
  241.    2.  Until you register it, Teleport Pro will only retrieve up to 200 files
  242.        per project.
  243.  
  244. For now, registration costs only $39.95 US.  And your registration is valid
  245. for all upgrades to the Teleport Pro product.  This means that your
  246. registration number will work on every upgrade we release.  In fact, if you
  247. send us your email address when you register, weÆll notify you automatically
  248. every time we issue an upgrade.

  250. We can accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover credit cards.
  251. We can also accept checks or money orders drawn on a United States bank, or
  252. a foreign bank with a United States clearing house.

  254. To register Teleport Pro, simply select Register from the Help menu.
  255. Teleport Pro will display the Registration dialog box.  There are three
  256. options for sending us your registration information:

  258. Secure Server:  Press this button to launch your browser and visit our
  259. Secure Server.  Your order will be processed online and you will receive a
  260. registration code immediately!  Choose this option for fastest service.  You
  261. must have a secure browser (such as Netscape or Microsoft) to use this option.
  262. Credit card orders only, please.

  264. CompuServe:  If you're a CompuServe member, press this button to launch
  265. CompuServe, then GO SWREG and register program # 12414.  Your CompuServe
  266. account will be billed for the account will be billed the cost of
  267. registration.  We will email your registration code to your CompuServe
  268. address when we receive notice of the order, usually within a week.

  270. Mail/Email/Fax: Press this button to display the Order Form and print it or
  271. save it to disk.  You can then mail or email it to us, or fax it to us.
