  10. Recent Documents is an application to replace and enhance the
  11. functionality of the "Documents Menu" on your Windows 95 / NT4 
  12. Start Menu.

  14. Normally the sub-menu displayed by the "Documents Menu", lists 
  15. the last 15 document files that you have accessed, allowing any 
  16. of these documents to be reopened simply by clicking on the name 
  17. of the document. Whilst this facility was very welcome within 
  18. the new "Windows 95" interface, there are some issues and 
  19. limitations with it: -
  20.  
  21. 1. It is not possible to customize which documents are listed, 
  22. how they are listed or how many documents should be retained for 
  23. future reference.

  25. 2. You cannot age the documents, allowing documents that were 
  26. referenced more than x days ago to be ignored.
  27.  
  28. 3. It is very difficult to remove a document from the menu if you 
  29. don't want it there.

  31. 4. If you access two documents that have the same file name, but 
  32. reside in different folders, only the last document referenced 
  33. will be stored. The "Documents Menu" ignores folder names!

  35. 5. You canÆt group documents into specified categories of 
  36. document.

  38. These "features" of the Documents Menu, relegate this (should be) 
  39. useful feature of Windows to another one of those "it's there, but
  40. I don't use it" tools. So what's the answer...  "Recent Documents" 
  41. of course!

  43. "Recent Documents" provides a user interface to the function of the 
  44. Documents Menu. Whilst Recent Documents is running, any documents 
  45. that are passed by Windows to the Documents Menu will be redirected 
  46. to "Recent Documents". These documents may then be viewed in various 
  47. formats, they can be customised so that true document histories can 
  48. be maintained, filtered to restrict which documents are displayed 
  49. and automatically moved into user defined document category 
  50. groupings.
