  107. 1.  WHAT IS SNAGIT?
  108. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  109.   SnagIt has been providing Microsoft Windows users with an easy way
  110.   to capture and print Windows screens since it was first released in
  111.   1990.  In "Windows 3.1 Secrets," author Brian Livingston calls
  112.   SnagIt "the print utility Microsoft Windows forgot."
  113.  
  114.   SnagIt allows Windows users to capture an entire screen, an
  115.   individual window or a user defined portion of the screen.  SnagIt
  116.   will ALSO capture the entire contents of a scrolling window!  In
  117.   addition, SnagIt also accepts input directly from the Windows
  118.   clipboard or a Windows bitmap (BMP) file.  Once captured, SnagIt can
  119.   send the image to the printer, the clipboard, or a graphics file.

  121.   Captured images can be pasted into other Windows applications such
  122.   as word processors and desktop publishing programs from the Windows
  123.   clipboard or by importing the images from saved graphic files.
  124.  
  125.   Software developers will find that SnagIt's full DDE support allows
  126.   it's functionality to easily be incorporated into other Windows
  127.   applications.  SnagIt also provides MAPI support for Windows 95 and
  128.   NT, allowing captured images to be readily sent in an e-mail message.

  130. 1.1 What is the SnagIt Twin Pack?
  131.  
  132.   Many organizations are in the early stages of the transition from
  133.   Windows 3.1x to Windows 95 or NT.  To assist during this period,
  134.   TechSmith is offering the SnagIt Twin Pack.  It includes a 16-bit
  135.   version, tailored for Windows 3.1x, as well as a true 32-bit version
  136.   for Windows 95 and NT. The setup program automatically detects the
  137.   workstation's operating environment and loads the appropriate
  138.   version.  The purchaser is licensed to run either version and to
  139.   switch between them without further payment. Purchasing the Twin
  140.   Pack provides the benefits of running SnagIt today without the
  141.   penalty of Windows 95 or NT upgrade fees in the future.

  144. 2.  SNAGIT TWIN PACK SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

  146.   In order to run SnagIt, your system must meet these specifications:

  148.   o  An IBM PC or compatible that meets the minimum hardware
  149.      requirements for your version of Microsoft Windows.

  151.   o  Microsoft Windows 3.1x, Windows For Workgroups 3.1x,
  152.      Windows NT 3.51 (or higher) or Windows 95 installed and
  153.      configured on your system.

  155.   o  A mouse or other pointing device

  157.   o  For printed output, a Windows-supported printer that can print
  158.      bitmaps. (This includes most of the laser, dot matrix and ink jet
  159.      printers that Windows supports.  Plotters are not recommended for
  160.      use with SnagIt due to their inability to print bitmaps.)

  184. 3.1 Using SnagIt's On-line Help

  186.   SnagIt's on-line Help system is compatible with the Windows Help
  187.   subsystems.  The SnagIt Help file contains all of the information
  188.   you'll need to use SnagIt.

  190.   To access SnagIt Help, select Help from the SnagIt menu bar, then
  191.   Help Index from the drop-down menu.

  193.   To get a quick overview of SnagIt essentials, select Quick Help from

  377. 6.  SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
  378. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  379. 6.1 Installation Instructions
  380.  
  381.   The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  382.   application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  383.   NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  384.   automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  385.   appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
  386.   the following steps:
  387.  
  388.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  389.  
  390.   2. Insert the SnagIt Twin Pack diskette into a floppy drive.
  391.  
  392.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  393.  
  394.   3. From the Start menu, select Run
  395.  
  396.   For Windows 3.1x and Windows NT 3.51 users:
  397.  
  398.   3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
  399.      from the drop down menu.
  400.  
  401.   For all users:
  402.  
  403.   4. In the dialog box, enter:
  404.           a:\setup
  405.      (If you are installing SnagIt from a diskette drive other than
  406.      the A drive, you will need to change the drive letter in the
  407.      command line above.)
  408.  
  409.   5. Click on the OK button.
  410.  
  411.   6. When you have finished entering the setup information, click on
  412.      the Install button to install SnagIt.
  413.  
  414.  
  415. 6.2  Uninstall Instructions
  416.  
  417.   If after installing SnagIt Twin Pack, you find it necessary to
  418.   remove the software from your computer, perform the following steps:
  419.  
  420.   Uninstall instructions for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0
  421.  
  422.   1. Run the Windows Control Panel
  423.  
  424.   2. Open the Add/Remove Programs applet from Control Panel.
  425.  
  426.   3. Select SnagIt from the list of applications that can uninstalled
  427.      by Windows.
  428.  
  429.   4. Click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall SnagIt.
  430.  
  431.   Uninstall instructions for Windows NT 3.51
  432.  
  433.   1. Select the FILE RUN menu option in Program Manager.
  434.  
  435.   2. Type in the command line the following:
  436.  
  437.      TSCUNST /UN
  438.  
  439.   3. Press OK to uninstall SnagIt.
  440.  
  441.   If the uninstall program encounters errors, or if you have
  442.   Windows 3.x, see the following section for uninstall instructions.

  445. 6.3  Manual Uninstall Instructions
  446.  
  447.   If you do not have Windows 95 or encountered a problem during the
  448.   uninstall, here are the steps you can take to manually uninstall
  449.   SnagIt from your computer.
  450.  
  451.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows 3.1x and WFW 3.1x
  452.  
  453.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  454.  
  455.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt was
  456.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press
  457.      the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  458.  
  459.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt when Windows Starts" when
  460.      installing SnagIt, delete SnagIt from the Startup group.
  461.  
  462.      In Program Manager, find the Startup group. Click once on the
  463.      SnagIt icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm that
  464.      you wish to delete the program item.
  465.  
  466.   4. Run File Manager and change to the directory in which you
  467.      installed SnagIt.  Delete the files SNAGIT.EXE and SNAGIT.HLP.
  468.  
  469.   Uninstall Instructions for Windows NT and Windows 95
  470.  
  471.   1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.

  473.   For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:
  474.  
  475.   2. From the Start Menu, select Settings and then Taskbar. Now
  476.      configure your Start Menu Programs by clicking on the Advanced
  477.      button.

  479.   3. Find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was installed. Click
  480.      once on the SnagIt/32 filename to highlight it. Press the delete
  481.      key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program item.
  482.  
  483.   4. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  484.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.
  485.  
  486.      Follow step #2 and then find the Startup group. Click once on the
  487.      SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it. Press the delete key. Confirm
  488.      that you wish to delete the program item.
  489.  
  490.   5. Run Windows Explorer and change to the directory in which you
  491.      installed SnagIt/32. Delete the files SnagIt32.EXE and
  492.      SnagIt32.HLP.
  493.  
  494.   For Windows NT 3.51 users:
  495.  
  496.   2. In Program Manager, find the program group in which SnagIt/32 was
  497.      installed. Click once on the SnagIt/32 icon to highlight it.
  498.      Press the delete key. Confirm that you wish to delete the program
  499.      item.
  500.  
  501.   3. If you selected "Start SnagIt/32 when Windows Starts" when
  502.      installing SnagIt/32, delete SnagIt/32 from the Startup group.

  513. 7.  STARTING AND USING SNAGIT
  514. ----------------------------------------------------------------------
  515.   To start SnagIt, double-click on the SnagIt icon in the Accessories
  516.   group.  (If you specified a group other than Accessories during
  517.   SnagIt installation, look in that group for the SnagIt icon.)
  518.  
  519.   Double-clicking on the SnagIt icon will execute SnagIt and bring
  520.   it to the foreground in its maximized form.  When SnagIt is
  521.   maximized, you may change any of the setup options (input, output,
  522.   format, etc.) from the SnagIt menus.
  523.  
  524.   You can also invoke SnagIt (that is, instruct SnagIt to capture an
  525.   image) while it is maximized, though it will usually be more
  526.   convenient to minimize SnagIt before doing your screen captures.
  527.  
  528.   If you selected the "Load when Windows starts" checkbox during
  529.   installation, SnagIt will start automatically the next time you
  530.   start Windows.
  531.  
  532. 7.1 SnagIt Default Settings
  533.  
  534.   When you install SnagIt, it uses the following default options:
  535.  
  536.   o  Input is set to Screen.  This means that when SnagIt is invoked,
  537.      it will capture the entire Windows desktop.
  538.  
  539.   o  Output is set to Printer.  This means that when SnagIt is
  540.      invoked, it will send the captured image to the Windows default
  541.      printer for printing.
  542.  
  543.   o  Format is set to Color.  This means that SnagIt will capture the
  544.      image with the screen colors intact.  (In most cases you can
  545.      print images using this format setting, even if your printer is
  546.      not a color printer. For additional information about SnagIt
  547.      format options, see the Format options topic in the SnagIt Help
  548.      file.)
  549.  
  550.   o  Printer Scale is set to Fit on Page.  This means that SnagIt will
  551.      output the captured image (on paper) at a size similar as the
  552.      image appears on the Windows screen but will reduce the image if
  553.      it is longer than one page.
  554.  
  555.   Refer to the SnagIt Help file for additional information on setting
  556.   SnagIt's input, output, format and other options.
  557.  
  558.   You can tell which settings SnagIt is using by looking at the bottom
  559.   of the SnagIt window when the program is maximized.
  560.  
  561. 7.2 Invoking SnagIt with <CTRL><SHIFT><P>
  562.  
  563.   Once you have SnagIt's parameters set as you want them, you are
  564.   ready to perform screen captures with SnagIt.
  565.  
  566.   The default hot-key sequence for invoking SnagIt is <Ctrl><Shift><P>.
  567.   When you press these keys, SnagIt will capture an image (determined
  568.   by the input parameter you selected), and send that image to the
  569.   output device you selected. To invoke SnagIt using a different
  570.   hotkey combination, see the Change Hotkeys topic in the SnagIt Help
  571.   file.

  573. 7.3 Using the Mouse to Select Images
  574.  
  575.   You will need a mouse or other pointing device with SnagIt.
  576.   The left and right mouse buttons work as follows:
  577.  
  578.   Left Button     Selects SnagIt menu options, and selects screen
  579.                   regions and windows to capture.
  580.  
  581.   Right Button    Cancels a region or window selection, if you press
  582.                   it before you finish making the selection (that is,
  583.                   before you release the left mouse button).

  593.   Single-User SnagIt Twin Pack

  595.   Registration entitles the licensee to install either the 32 bit or
  596.   the 16 bit version of SnagIt and to switch between the two without
  597.   further payment.  The single-user license price is $39.95.
  598.  
  599.   When you register SnagIt Twin Pack, you have the option of
  600.   requesting a registered version of the software on diskette or of
  601.   requesting a software key to register the version you have. The
  602.   software key immediately removes all registration reminder screens
  603.   and evaluation expiration dates.

  605.   Multi-User SnagIt Twin Pack
  606.  
  607.   Registration entitles the licensed organization to install 10 copies
  608.   of SnagIt, in any combination of 16 bit and 32 bit. A single diskette
  609.   is shipped along with the multi-user license.  The 10-user license
  610.   price is $200.00.

  612.   Registration Instructions
  613.  
  614.   1.  Select the SnagIt program's Help menu.
  615.  
  616.   2.  Select How to Register from the menu.
  617.  
  618.   3.  Click on the Registration Form button.  Enter your registration
  619.       information in the fields provided.
  620.  
  621.       NOTE: You must specify a name or company name when you register.
  622.             Your software key will be personalized for that name
  623.             ONLY.  Your key will NOT not work if you change this name
  624.             after you have sent in your registration.
  625.  
  626.   4.  When you are finished, select OK. This will create a text file
  627.       called REGISTER.TXT in the SnagIt default directory. This is
  628.       your registration and order form.  It includes a price sheet and
  629.       your Product ID number.
  630.  
  631.   5.  Windows Notepad will now open REGISTER.TXT automatically,
  632.       allowing you to edit and or print the registration form.  While
  633.       you are editing, please complete any blank items, including
  634.       quantities, totals, and payment information. DO NOT EDIT THE
  635.       PRODUCT ID NUMBER. Note that shipping charges are only
  636.       applicable to diskette orders.
  637.  
  638.   6.  Return the registration form, with payment, to TechSmith
  639.       Corporation by any of the methods described on the form.  Upon
  640.       receipt of your order, TechSmith will generate your diskette or
  641.       software key. It will then be sent to you by the method of
  642.       your choice, either e-mail, fax, postal delivery or other.
  643.  
  644.   If you have elected to receive a software key, use the following
  645.   steps to complete the registration process.
  646.  
  647.   7.  Select the Help menu.
  648.  
  649.   8.  Select Enter Software Key from the menu.

  651.   9.  Enter your registration key, exactly as it is shown, in the
  652.       field provided.

  654.   10. Press OK.

  656.   Your software is now registered!  All the registration reminder
  657.   screens and software expiration dates will be removed.  If you have

  779. INSTALLING SNAGIT TWIN PACK

  781. The SnagIt installation program SETUP.EXE is a Microsoft Windows
  782. application.  You must have Windows, Windows for Workgroups, Windows
  783. NT or Windows 95 installed prior to installing SnagIt.  Setup will
  784. automatically detect the version of Windows in use and copy the
  785. appropriate files during the install.  To install SnagIt, perform
  786. the following steps:

  788. 1. Start Windows, if you haven't already done so.
  789.  
  790. 2. Insert the SnagIt Twin Pack diskette into a floppy drive.
  791.  
  792. For Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 users:

  794. 3. From the Start menu, select Run

  796. For Windows 3.x and Windows 95 users:

  798. 3. From the Program Manager menu bar, choose File, and select Run
