  1. EZSaver - version 1.5
  2. ----------------------
  3. Thank you for downloading EZSaver.  If you haven't already, please 
  4. run the Setup program (SETUP.EXE), which will move EZSAVER.SCR to 
  5. your \Windows directory where it needs to be and also automatically 
  6. run EZSaver's setup screen and this README document.  
  7.  
  8. If you did run Setup, just minimize or close this document now to 
  9. start using EZSaver right away.  Refer to the information below as 
  10. needed.  
  11.  
  12. Please give the saver a few seconds to bounce the image around the 
  13. screen while it calculates the additional images needed to create 
  14. animations.  This calculation time is reduced when animation effects
  15. are turned off.
  16.  
  17. The free screen saver SPACE.SCR, which depicts the Earth and Moon 
  18. as photographed by the Galileo spacecraft when it passed us for the 
  19. last time on its way to Jupiter, is also moved to \Windows by the 
  20. Setup program.
  21.  
  22. Tips for creating screen savers:
  23. --------------------------------
  24. You can see from playing with EZSaver a little that the best effect
  25. is achieved if the logo image's background matches the selected
  26. screen background.  EZSaver performs no image "masking", and
  27. therefore can achieve smooth animation on a wide range of PC's.
  28.  
  29. You should crop the image close to the logo itself (in other words,
  30. don't leave a lot of margin) to minimize initial calculations and 
  31. get full animation rolling as quickly as possible.
  32.  
  33. Bitmaps are rejected if the width times the height of a bitmap is 
  34. greater that 100,000.  Bitmaps smaller than this should always
  35. allow a smooth animation effect.
  36.  
  37. If you plan to distribute screen savers to other users, keep in
  38. mind that only 16-color bitmaps are guaranteed to appear the same
  39. on all Windows installations.  A screen saver with a 256-color 
  40. photo-quality image will look great on all Super VGA systems, but 
  41. not very good on simple VGA systems.
  42.  
  43. EZSaver lets you choose which (if any) animation effects are to be
  44. performed upon the image.  Make sure the effects you want are selected
  45. before using the "Save" button.  The resulting saver will use only
  46. those effects.  For a simple "floating" image, turn off all effects.

  48. Saving the saver:
  49. -----------------
  50. You can test EZSaver's ability to use your image, color selection,
  51. and description to create a new screen saver, which is then saved to a
  52. single file (like EZSAVER.SCR or SPACE.SCR) to simplify distribution.

  54. You can do this without registration codes (simply leave them blank)
  55. to create evaluation screen savers, which are time-constricted to one
  56. minute (starting when the full animation effect kicks in).  When you
  57. register, you'll know how to build your savers when you receive your 
  58. codes.
  59.  
  60. Using screen savers (Windows 3.x):
  61. --------------------------------------
  62. Locate the Control Panel icon (usually found in the program group
  63. titled "Main"), double-click it to run it, then double-click the
  64. Desktop icon to run that.  Locate the section titled "Screen Saver".
  65.  
  66. Click the downward-pointing arrow (just to the right of the current
  67. screen saver) to get a list of all savers in the \WINDOWS directory,
  68. and select "EZSaver 1.5".
  69.  
  70. Use the Test button to immediately see the EZSaver effect, and the
  71. Setup button to try it with your own images and background color
  72. selections.  See below for more info.

  74. Using screen savers (Windows 95):
  75. -------------------------------------
  76. Click the right mouse button anywhere exposed on the desktop.  Then, click
  77. Properties to run the Display panel.  Click on the Screen Saver tab and
  78. select "EZSaver 1.5" from the list of screen savers.
  79.  
  80. Use the Preview button to immediately see the EZSaver effect, and the
  81. Settings button to try it with your own images and background color
  82. selections.

  84. (Note: you can also run the Display panel by clicking the START
  85. button and selecting Settings/Control Panel, which displays a Display
  86. icon you can double-click)

  88. Passwords:
  89. ----------
  90. Password information is stored in CONTROL.INI, and is the same password
  91. used by the standard Microsoft screen savers (Flying Windows, Mystify, 
  92. etc.).

  94. If you forget your password, use NOTEPAD to edit CONTROL.INI.  Find the 
  95. section labelled [ScreenSaver], and delete the line that starts with 
  96. "Password = ".
  97.  
  98. Registration:
  99. -------------
  100. Registration for an individual user is $19 (U.S.) via CompuServe's 
  101. Shareware Registration service (GO SWREG).  CompuServe will immediately 
  102. notify EZ Software via e-mail.  EZ Software will then e-mail registration
  103. codes to your CompuServe address, usually on the same day.
  104.  
  105. An alternative registration method is available via the First Virtual(TM) 
  106. Internet Payment service.  This $2-per-year service lets you use your 
  107. credit card to make purchases over the internet without sending your card
  108. information over the net.  Read the FIRST VIRTUAL section at the bottom of 
  109. this document for details.

  111. Savers created with EZSaver are improved in the following ways when 
  112. you have registration codes: 
  113.  
  114.     -No "Evaluation" banner message
  115.     -No one-minute time limit
  116.     -Password protection activated
  117.  
  118. The SWREG number for the Individual User licence is 10526.  This license
  119. entitles you to create all the screen savers you wish, but does not allow
  120. business-oriented distribution to other users.   However, distribution 
  121. of savers you've created to friends and family is encouraged!
  122.  
  123. The SWREG number for the Corporate licence is 14184.  This license
  124. permits unlimited distribution of business-oriented screen savers that
  125. are not resold.  Unlike the individual license, the registration codes 
  126. supplied with this license create savers that contain no reference to 
  127. EZ Software.  The price of this license is $125.
  128.  
  129. Registration for the Unlimited Distribution license is $225.  This permits
  130. you to create all the screen savers you wish, distribute them freely for
  131. any purpose, or sell them.  The SWREG number for the Corporate/Distribution
  132. licence is 10527.  The registration codes supplied with this license create
  133. savers that contain no reference to EZ Software.

  172. As of July 1996, EZ Software has joined the ranks of over 2200
  173. product and service vendors now accepting payment via a secure
  174. Internet method provided by First Virtual Bank.

  176. You can become a "virtual" card-holder with First Virtual for only two 
  177. dollars per year.  You will then be able to use your current credit card 
  178. (registered one time with First Virtual by dialing an 800 number) to 
  179. purchase products and services on the Internet without ever sending your 
  180. credit card information over the Net.

  182. Only your personal code, called a VirtualPIN (Personal ID Number), is 
  183. sent to a vendor an payment.  The vendor submits the payment request 
  184. to First Virtual, who always e-mails you for verification before
