life
Eternity
We tear a page
out of what can be
fill it with what-
ever we want to see
hand it down
to our progenity
as if we gave a damn
about prosperity
Never puttin' thoughts
elloquently
speakin' anger
only with obscenities
you'd think one day
we'd ever see
we're puttin' crap out in
quantity
If you never think
about eternity
or care if there is
any destiny
think about
the kids you see
and what we leave them
left to dream
We say that life
is only what it seems
an' there ain't no use
believin' in dreams
as we hastily
tear down the screens
exposing societies
unseemliest seams
We're selling out truth
to fact-based scenes
losin' sight of hope
'cause it doesn't gleam
turnin' up the static
to drown out the screams
as people die without
knowing what livin' means
They never think about eternity
just thought this was
their destiny
If this is all
your heart can see
then this is all
life will mean
Maybe our page
just shouldn't be
but it is and so
it has to be
but of all the gall
it takes not to see
you'd think darkness was
a necessity
If you never think
about eternity
or care if there is
any destiny
think about
the kids you see
and what we leave them
left to dream
What was we say
had to be
still clingin' to
inevitability
but in all
probablilty
we make it better or worse
eventually
If you ever think
about eternity
believe we are
our destiny
'cause of all the things
that we still need
nothin' else beats
responsibity
Who'll listen
Everybody,
they've got their own
them that don't,
they just stand alone
with nobody
to call or phone
when they
stand to lose their homes
Who'll listen
when I need to call
who'll listen
when my back's to the wall
If you lose
you're bound to lose it all
Somethin's missin'
In a shelter
at the edge of town
where nobody
likes to hang around
after dark
when they hear the sound
then the silence
knowin' somethin's goin' down
The ol' lady
that runs the place
she tells me that
I ain't no disgrace
and maybe soon
I'll find me some space
but the doubt
shows up in her face
I'll listen
though there's nothin' I can do
but I'll listen
'cause somebody's got to
I ain't much use
but if we talk it through
someone might listen
I wrote a letter
sayin' what might be in store
when those in need
are simply shown the door,
more crime
and less keepin' score
as the law
becomes words and nothin' more
An' everybody
on the other side of the line
will keep closin'
up their eyes, ears and minds
from seein'
that justice is blind
when upholdin'
orders fundamentally unkind
But nobody listens
no matter what you say
Nobody listens
they just hope you go away
and let them think
tomorrow will be just like today
with nothin' missin'
Believe it or not
someone on the spot
put out a little thought
and an answer I got...
Whatever you're sayin'
I've heard it before
and wherever you're comin' from
there's three thousand more
Whether the trouble's past
or there's trouble in store
you can bet your ass
there's gonna be more
Just keep livin'
we don't care what for
just keep givin'
us whatever you're good for
Pay to play today
and tomorrow you'll see more
of whatever's missin'
Who'll listen
if it happens to you
just listen
no one ever thinks it could
If they did
you could bet it never would
that's whats missin'
that's whats missin'
Long Past Today
Winter is cold
but not as cold as they
all wrapped up in themselves
to look the other way
as misfortune befalls
everyone everyday
and help stays always
a heartbeat away
But a thaw comes on
'round one winter's day
as the light of compassion
breaks out every ray
buried in people's hearts
apart from the way
they fulfill their part
in giving nothing away
Yet at this time
the rules we betray
and reach out to those
who could never pay
Need touches greed
and it doesn't shrink away
nearly as much
as every other day
'Round this time of year
you hear some people say
this time peace and joy
they're gonna stay
long past Christmas Day
hey hey,
long past this Christmas Day
So far they
ain't yet got their way
and December 26th
is just another day
recent hope
begins to fade away
as suspicions and fear
come back to stay
Once you fear it
Christmas spirit fades away
It's outta place
and gets in the way
It's just too hard
to always say hey
its been good to see you
and have a nice day
Reachin' out to strangers
just isn't the way
we ought to behave
we are taught today
but some soon tomorrow
on some bright new day
we'll see others sorrows
as our own we may
Round that time of year
you'll hear the people say
this time peace and joy,
they're gonna stay
long past this bright new day
hey hey,
long past this wonderful day
Supersonic
Stuck on some
aeroplane
headed for (uh)
ol' Bachrain
Supersonic (yuh)
is my name
an' shootin' trouble is
the name of my game
When someone gives
someone some pain
I'm there for
them to complain
takin' down them
facts and names
an' guessin' who
ta give the blame
But before I
can get some rest
my butt's on a plane
headin' west
headin' somewhere
there's more unrest
peace of mind and time
are the price of success
Well doggone it (ha)
yes I say
I'm on it (uh)
here today
Supersonic (yuh)
is my name
an' you can bet I've yet
to quit the game
Guns and more
are at my command
and I'm the baddest cat
in any land
trouble shooters are
always in demand
and I decide
who ta lend a hand
If you want a war
then I'm your man
Tell me what you want
I'll do what I can
say it right
an' we'll understand
we like anyone
who likes our brands
Sorry man,
I gotta go
'cause this place here
is ready to blow
an' the aftermath
I don't wanna know
to me its just
another show
Well doggone it (ha)
yes I say
I'm on it (uh)
here today
Supersonic (yuh)
is my name
makin' money off
of other's pains
When the dust settles
I'm there again
once the land
is on the mend
jus' waitin' to
start it up again
'til everyone
is dead or friends
What rules don't break
I'm sure ta bend
jumpin' on ta
the latest trend
ridin' shock waves
that trouble sends
an' windin' up on top
in the end
Where I work
don't matter no more
'cause the thrill is what
I'm livin' for
an' maybe someday
I might score
some brownie points
for stoppin' a war
Well doggone it (ha)
yes I say
I'm on it (uh)
here today
Supersonic (yuh)
is my name
livin' off of
hate's foolish games
We Are Truth
Listen up and you might hear
what its like to live without fear
of the truth becoming too clear
What are you, do you wanna know
or instead would you let it go
rather than risk lettin' it show
We are truth and what we say and do
denies us or lets us shine through
to know ourselves by the things we do
Yet lies we always tell
to no one except ourselves
for foolin' others only fools us as well
We decide we have to hide
and the rules we cannot abide
sayin' silently truth has already died
Yet in us the truth does live
and more time it always gives
to us to let us forgive
ourselves for the things we did
Tomorrow is never today
and what we did will fade away
unbeknownst for any to say
Every moment we come near
to letting our lives be steered
by what we love and hold dear
What you are you already know
and it's there when you wanna grow
by letting it always show
We are truth and what we say and do
denies us or lets us shine through
to know ourselves by the things we do
Start life over
Have you heard the word- my longtime friend
we've got to start- life over again
now that we're nearly- reachin' the end
and we've little leftover- promise to spend
We're under the gun- like our long lost trees
choked by our smoke- an' droppin' like leaves
as we change our values- to suit our needs
decryin' destruction- but still plantin' the seeds
Maybe tomorrow- we will love today
'cause it won't be brighter- than our yesterdays
but now if not the will- we still have ways
to keep life from becomin'- totally gray
So go an' walk out- under the sun
and let your cloud of doubt- come undone
Breathe in the clear air- while it's still there
remember it all- and remember to care
So spread the word- my hopeful friend
we've got to start- life over again
and maybe tomorrows- won't mean the end
of what we loved today- too much to spend
We'll reseed the trees- and sweeten the breeze
blowin' pollution away- so our kids can play
in rivers and streams- once off limits
to their hopes and dreams
Maybe tomorrow- we'll love more than today
shining brighter- than our yesterdays
Maybe then- we'll be able to say
we love each tomorrow- more than today
So go an' walk out- under the sun
an' let your cloud of doubt- come undone
breathe in the clean air- while its still there
remember it all- and remember to care
remember it all- and remember to care
A World Where It Could
I see me and you together
whether times go good or bad
I see you and me and a baby or three
havin' the best fun we ever had
Now I'm not saying it's gonna happen
I won't even say that it should
but wouldn't it, wouldn't it be good
to live in a world where it could
I see peace and plenty for all
in a world where no one is sad
I see an end to guns and weapons shunned
and everyone has reason to be glad
I see Jews playing with Arabs
growing up in a world without hate
I see the best face we have to offer
and the best life we can create
I'm not saying it's gonna happen
I won't even say that it should
but wouldn't it, wouldn't it be good
to live in a world where it could
I see kindness to all the animals
I see the monkeys and dolphins set free
I see the humanness in humanity
brighter than we thought it could be
I see us in this perfect world
and I hope you see it with me
'cause if never comes to pass
at least we both thought it could be
Now I'm not saying it's gonna happen
I won't even say that it should
but wouldn't it, wouldn't it be good
to live in a world where it could
love
On Down Below
We lay together
yet we stand apart
touching everything
but never the heart
keeping it distant
keeping it smart
yet never allowing
the best part to start
What you feel
you don't show
about so much
I don't know
Sorry I just
can't let it go
for I feel
I need to know
I'd never ask,
that's not my way
I just wait and wait
and hope you will say
something, anything
to show me the way
to get you to
open up today
What you think
I don't need to hear
and what we want
is never clear
but because I love you
I live with the fear
that so much of you
I'll never be near
I say its nothing
but my heart says no
and I pretend
that our love can grow
stronger yet
ever even though
you won't reveal
what you feel below
What I have of you
I don't mind
and its enough
most of the time
but now and then
I need to find
the rest of you
I left behind
I'll wait outside
until you let me in
and on that day
my life will begin
when your trust
I finally win
enough to know
all you've ever been
Together in the Heart
Look into my eyes
and tell me what you see
a thousand other guys
or just me
Want to see them
want to see a disguise
or need to see past that
to see past their lies
to my honesty
Feel my heartbeat
hard upon my chest
as if it seeks to escape
from whom it has been blessed
to find in another
its own success
Be there for me
or just close your eyes
lest you might soon see
me bang my head into the wall
for feeling my life's a lie
thinkin' the joys I see
aren't really mine at all
Together or apart
whether at the end
or at the start
we are we
and will always be
opposites united
together in the heart
Brushin' your hair
back out of your face
I savor the moment there
and its sweet taste
Holdin' back time
like a beaver with a damn
I gather up the past
hopin' that what I am
will stay in place
Nothing escapes me
yet nothing do I hold
except the present you
for memories of old
die upon our lips
as they are told
Let our lips be still
once they've done their jobs
in letting us express
the feelings in our breasts
by letting us taste
each others best
Together or apart
whether at the end
or at the start
we are we
and will always be
opposites united
together in the heart
Since I Went Away
Missy oh mine
you look so fine
sitting there on a shelf
but inside me
I still see
you here with me
back when I was myself
Days have past
since I saw you last
but it seems like years
have taken flight
since I held you tight
through the night
and soothed away your fears
I didn't know how much
I could miss you
before I went away
but now I find
I'm just killing time
praying this is just a dream
and soon I'll awake
to find you in my arms
and out of harm's way
loving one another night & day
just for love's own sake
What a fool am I
to think that I could buy
a better life for us apart
when we both knew
what parting would do
to me and you
and our tender hearts
Let me end this now
and let me show you how
my world has changed without you
as yesterday
I just couldn't say
what I know today,
my life is all about you
You don't know how much
I need to kiss you
and tell you I need to stay
but those words
you've never heard
because I was too foolish to say
those truths we feel
as we come closer
to sharing one another
forgetting all the others
between us and what is real
Stranger in My Arms
Pretty baby, lovely lady
I'm so proud of
the love you gave me
but now I fear
the end is near
and our sure thing
is just a maybe
Where'd you go tonight
and why oh why
do we have to fight
when I wanna know
where you go
or if I am
still your heart's delight
You feel like a stranger in my arms
and I'm in danger from your charms
'cause I no longer know
where your thoughts go
or what you might do
Questions are breakin' me
'cause I don't know
where you're takin' me
if you wanna go
just let me know
and free me from the jealousy
that keeps on shakin' me
Just tell me where I stand
tell me if you're in love
with another man
I can't take
the cruel heartache
or the lies of disguise
now gettin' outta hand
You feel like a stranger in my arms
and I'm in danger from your charms
'cause I no longer know
where your thoughts go
or what you might do
Well pretty stranger in my arms
am I in danger from your charms
Gimme a clue
who I'm talkin' to
or if I love the new you
Silent Film Movies
Follow you heartbeat
always until
it leads you to moonbeams
silent and still
while wandering gypsys
dance on the hill
on flowering tea leaves
they've yet to mill
Run fast from heartache
it catches you still
bending you backwards
breaking your will
like silent film movies
make quietness shrill
echoing the nothings
soaking up thrills
Leftover romance
perchance to dream
seemingly sober
over what it all means
weaning the break
and breaking the screen
between heaven and heartache
shakenly serene
Savor the dance
chance has to take
forsaking all flavor
to layer the cake
and making our favor
savor the ache
faking the way more
with each step we make
As yesterday's hearts
carry us still
we're never apart from
forgotten thrills
in the heart of the darkness
images fill
in the time between
the dead 'n the nil
Play it again, please
play it until
all sorrow's forgotten
and time stands still
memories run deep
too deep to kill
but like silent film movies,
practicality will
Follow you heartbeat
always until
it leads you to moonbeams
silent and still
like wandering gypsys
we dance on the hill
on flowering tea leaves
too bright to mill
Leftover romance
perchance to dream
seemingly sober
over what it all means
weaning the break
and breaking the screen
between heaven and heartache
shakenly serene
Love's On Fire
Bein' beside her
I find I really care
Heaven's inside her
and no one knows it's there
I wanna be by her
everywhere
'cause her heavenly fire
sets my soul aflare
When love's on fire
an' hearts start ta bounce
I'm like a caged tiger
ready to pounce
willin' to provide her
with every ounce
of her favorite desire
when it really counts
When love's on fire
the fever starts ta mount
higher and higher
in deeper amounts
'til the last pires
are finally trounced
by fulfilled desires
where it really counts
I'll never tire
as long as she's there
She's my inner fire
fuelin' all of my cares
makin' me aspire
to fire her flares
of hidden desires
burnin' up her despairs
When love's on fire
an' hearts start ta bounce
I'm like a caged tiger
ready to pounce
willin' to provide her
with every ounce
of her favorite desire
when it really counts
When love's on fire
the fever starts ta mount
higher and higher
in deeper amounts
'til the last pires
are finally trounced
by fulfilled desires
where it really counts
All we require
is moments to share
free of the mire
of earthly cares
to let love's fire
light up the stairs
leading us higher
and keeping us there
To Be Such
I remember the summer
when we were together
We laughed and played
sayin' everyday
the sun will shine our way
That summer's forever
but can we relive it ever
I wonder aloud today
as time pushes us
ever further away
How can one moment
mean so much
yet all of the rest
it ceases to touch,
standing apart
yet deep in our hearts
we want them all
to be such
We still see each other
still love one another
but it's still not the same
as we try in vain
to have the past reclaimed
The excitement dulled
and it slowed the pulse
but as passions waned
something else
keeps alive the flame
Isn't love enough
doesn't it mean so much
that all of the rest
pales to its touch
standin' apart
deep in our hearts
needing all else to be such
We don't want it to end
don't want to just be friends
but we each see
that makin' it be
is beyond you and me
One of these days
we'll go our separate ways
unless we free
ourselves from feeling
that this has to be
Can't love be enough
doesn't it mean so much
that all of the rest
pales to its touch
standing apart
deep in our hearts
needing all else to be such
Dreamin' of You
I am so in love with you
that when my day is through
I still need to hold you tight
though all my dreams at night
It doesn't matter when or where
whenever I close my eyes you're there
livin' the love that we both see
which makes us feel alive and free
You got me dreamin' of you
day or night, it's all I want to do
for now 'til my life is through
all I need is to just see you
In my dreams, the world is ours
with only sunshine, no rain or showers
and an infinite amount of time to take
to enjoy the love that we make
These dreams have no sorrow or fear
or any reasons to shed a tear
Just love and laughter and us
caring and sharing in total trust
You got me dreamin' of you
day or night, it's all I want to do
for now 'til my life is through
all I need is to just see you
Though beautiful these dreams are fake
which I discover when I awake
to find you lying there next to me
more lovely that any dream can be
Jus' keep me dreamin' of you
and I'll try to keep you dreamin' too
from now 'til my life is through
I'll do my best to make our dreams come true
Why is it
What is it in me
that I always see in you
What makes me
run away and hide
though I don't want to
and keeps me from doing
what I need the most to do
Why do we fight
over things foolish and few
and hurtful words
said in heated haste
stick to us like glue
far beyond when
we ever meant them to
Wrongs done by one
whose love you thought true-blue
can never match
what other pains
you might have lived through,
needing to tell someone
but no longer knowing who
Why is it
the ones we never want to hurt
we always do
Why can't we
keep the worst in us
from ever coming to view
and pretend the bad times we make
we never knew
Tomorrow let us make
some plans to erase the lines
of sorrow that we drew
to keep alive the division
which keeps us
forever as two
longing to act as one
yet finding it impossible to do
What I really feel
I haven't got a clue
hopin' every moment
with a little luck
we can start anew
and rekindle the hopes
for the peace and joy we never knew
We deserve the chance
to catch the fleeting moment
of happiness that flew
high above us
passing us forever
for something we did or didn't do
in putting to bed
the vision of a lasting truce
I don't know why
we behave as little children
who never grew
enough to know
that just being right
isn't always a virtue
and others feelings
can mean more than what is true
Why is it
the ones we never want to hurt
we always do
Why can't we
keep the worst in us
from ever coming to view
and pretend the bad times we make
we nver knew
Tomorrow let us make
some plans to erase the lines
of sorrow that we drew
to alive the division
which keeps us
forever as two
longing to act as one
yet finding it impossible to do
When Push Comes to Shove
The night is made for love
beneath the stars above
heart stoppin' crazy love
the kind we're cravin' of
Its almost too much to bear
holding you softly there
with moonlight in your hair
and romance in the air
Even though it's gettin' late
and you say you'd rather wait
I feel the hand of fate
moving us to the gate
When push comes to shove
and its time to leave or love
decide what you're dreamin' of
and if you believe in love
And if you believe in love
believe we're needy of
the need to be in love
underneath the stars above
We still are young
our best is still unsung
but before this night is done
let it be second to none
I feel you really care
I feel it everywhere
feelings I need to share
needing you always there
If you want I'll go
I just want you to know
that tomorrow will show
I can take takin' it slow
When push comes to shove
and its time to leave or love
decide what you're dreamin' of
and if you believe in love
And if you believe in love
believe we're needy of
the need to be in love
underneath the stars above
death
How to Say Goodbye
As she left me she asked
why didn't I shout or cry
How could she know me
yet not know
I don't know how to say
goodbye
It's not like I've been through it
a hundred times or more
Anything as final as forever
I deny to even feel
and believe that facts will fall
to things like before
lastly letting our needs decide
what is really real
Yet ends have to come
and when they do
I'm always the one
left last to understand
and recognize that new
order now at hand
No one ever leaves I say
and I never presume to lie
I know others needs
yet I know
I never need to learn
goodbye
In my heart we all live
and never die
and though the pain is always there
it never steals
the desire to forever return here
from our future lives
A reunion of hopes and dreams
I see in store
knowing the present
is and has been
always a lie
which brought us together
here once before
yet has not the power
to let that feeling die
The past and present
blend in me
and in the middle of
the twisting swirl
I see the traits of all of us
in each boy and girl
No one ever leaves I say
and I never presume to lie
I know others needs
yet I know
I never need to learn
goodbye
Commaconitch
I feel us drifting away
out on the sea of majesty
and though I know its meant to be
I never thought that I would see
the day that life would set you free
Commaconitch, can you hear me
you know I loved you dearly
Commaconitch, can you feel me
feel the pain it took to heal me
I see you up there in heaven
an' everyday I pray
that you are there to stay
and I know that come someday
you'll come to show me the way
Commaconitch, can you hear me
even though you can't come near me
Commaconitch, can you see me
it took me years to learn how to be me
Now I wander from day to day
livin' half in the past
never able to meet any task
but to die I wouldn't ask
even though life ain't meant to last
Commaconitch, can you hear me
the thought of you will always steer me
Commacontich, can you love me
even though you're high above me
Can't See the Sun
The storm grows outside of my door
a chill blows through all of my pores
Everyone knows the tragic score,
friends meet foes and roses galore
Death has come ready to chase
reluctant ones free from its embrace
and what's won from this evil race
is a peace gun aimed right at my face
I can't see the sun commin' out anymore
can't see the world bein' brighter than before
Clouds have come, I don't care what for
truth and hope just don't live anymore
I sit still alone in the dark
and wait until I can feel some spark
of my will to leave forth my mark
before time stills my ever hardening heart
Yet I know all efforts are vain
we come and go and all remains the same
We overthrow tyrants in justice's name
but tomorrow we'll all deserve the same
All that's won when lives we waste
is someone takes someone else's place
Under thumb, we'll all praise grace
with dumb fun appeasing our foolish tastes
I can't see the sun commin' out anymore
can't see the world bein' brighter than before
Clouds have come, I don't care what for
truth and hope just don't live anymore
Death Song
When sleepin' in my bed
I had a vision in my head
that my body was dead
and my spirit had fled
Well soon I found
I could walk around
so I went to town
but no one could be found
Well time did fly
'til I met this guy
and I asked him why
did I have to die
He said, "You gotta go away
and ya gotta leave today
I don't know where you should go
but I know that you know the way"
I said thanks, that's some big help
so I cursed him then I cursed myself
It's good to be knowin' ya got ta be goin'
somewhere somehow right now
I looked up to the sky
and thought, "Hell, why not try"
so I took a deep breath, counted to ten
jumped real high then tried to fly
I was hangin' in the air thinkin' I'd make it there
but no, it wasn't to be
I heard the sound of my butt hit the ground
as the world came up and hit me
It was then my that my mind
thought "This ain't a good sign,
if I'm not goin' up and I can't hang around
I must be goin' down
Then my eyes did spy a well
old and polluted with a terrible smell
and I thought "Why not,
a sewer makes a good gateway to hell!"
So I broke the boards with a grin
and quickly jumped right in
but I had a fright when I caught a sight
of water not fire and me not knowin' how to swim
Then I was back before that guy
who said "Boy at dyin', ya ain't too good!"
He said, "You gotta go away
and ya gotta leave today
I don't know where you should go
but I know that you know the way"
I said if you please,
turn down the sound
and turn off the breeze
If what you say is true
and I'm overdue
to be somewhere someway,
if anyone's there
and they really care
they'll send someone someday
and until then,
I don't know when
I'll keep doin' what I may
Then I went back
to take a nap
and revived alive to stay
and until then,
I don't know when
I'll keep doin' what I may
This ain't heaven and it ain't hell
but it's just as well away
'cause if someone found
somethin' better around
they forgot to send 'em
to show me the way
Shame on the Rain
Badly beaten and bruised
a girl rested upon a park bench
in the cold barren outside
and it was there she would have died
if not for a perceptive passerby
In a dull gray hospital ward
impersonal and sterilly drab
the doctors aborted her child
and when they told her only visitor
he just looked down and smiled
Later speaking softly to her
he immeditately cut to the chaste
called her a slut and spat in her face
and said that if it happened again
the same events would take place
Looking out the window
that was hermetically sealed
she wanted so badly to die
she wished she could plunge to her death
but knowing she couldn't, she only cried
Shame on the rain
that falls so often
it begins to frame
our very lives
with its pain
On a garbage strewn street
an unshaven dirty man wanders
in a setting nievely thought gritty
amongst the terrors of the inner-city
that show the mentally ill no special pity
Accosted yet again by vicious youths
he barely understood the exchange taking place
when they cut him across the side of the head
and there in the street in the dark
he slept silently as he slowly bled
Shame on the rain
that falls so often
it begins to drain
the life from us
filling us with pain
On a brightly lit bus far in the back
a desperate pathetic man sat alone
with high collar and hat to hide his face
trying his best to leave no trace
of his jaunt to the seamy side of disgrace
In the worst part of town it stopped
and he hurried away to some secret place
where a price could satisfy any lust
that any man or woman could imagine
and his often filled even he with disgust
Forgetting his wife and his family
often he escaped his quiet life
for distractions of a carnal kind
with teenagers so young and sweet
he could leave his aging world behind
Upon entering a windowless room
seeing that girl spread upon the bed
he turned away and began to cry
and upon recognizing him she knew why
as he learned his missing daughter didn't die
Shame on the rain
that falls so often
nothing is gained
except the well springs
of our pain
For the death of his parents
a boy sought out his revenge
dilligently working year after year
until the responsible party became clear
and he introduced him to his fears
In that man's home he stood
pointing a gun aimed straight at his face
and he shot that man in many a place
only to see standing there behind him
that man's son staring into space
Shame on the rain
that falls so often
it all becomes the same
fading to gray
and laced with pain
