Welcome to Interactive Physics 3.0!
This on-line document supplements the booklet "Getting Started with
Interactive Physics 3.0". It contains the following information.
1. Changes to Your System Made by Interactive Physics Setup
2. Uninstalling Interactive Physics
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. Changes to Your System Made by Interactive Physics Setup
-------------------------------------------------------------
This section describes the changes made to your system by
Interactive Physics Setup.
1.1. Interactive Physics 3.0 (Application)
Interactive Physics Setup copies the files in the directory specified
at the installation time (the default directory is \Interactive Physics).
1.2. Shared Libraries
The following file is copied to or updated in WINDOWS\SYSTEM (for Windows 95)
or WINNT\SYSTEM32 (for Windows NT). This file is a Microsoft 3D Control Library.
CTL3D32.DLL
(NOTE: The pathname of the Windows system directory may be different
on your system.)
The following files are copied to or updated in WINDOWS\SYSTEM
(for Windows 3.x and Windows 95) or WINNT\SYSTEM32 (for Windows NT):
(Microsoft Foundation Classes Libraries)
MFC40.DLL
MSVCRT40.DLL
1.3. Driver for Hardware Key (if applicable)
Interactive Physics Setup installs the driver files. These files are required
to operate with the hardware key, if available.
If the driver installation seems to have failed for any reason, you can
manually install the drivers. Specific instructions for system administrators
are available in "Getting Started with Interactive Physics 3.0".
(1) For Windows 95
The driver software as well as the configuration utility are copied to
your system as follows:
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SENTINEL.VXD
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNBOSENT\SENTW95.EXE
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNBOSENT\SENTW95.DLL
WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNBOSENT\SENTW95.HLP
In addition, the registry key is added to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE as follows:
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices\RNBOStart
(The key entry starts the driver software when the system boots up.)
(2) For Windows NT
The driver is installed in the Windows NT system. Should you decide to
remove the driver software, remove the driver "Sentinel for i386 Systems"
found in the Drivers list from the Control Panel. You need to have the
administrator level privilege to remove the driver software.
-------------------------------------------------------------
2. Uninstalling Interactive Physics
-------------------------------------------------------------
To remove the components installed by Interactive Physics Setup, simply use
the uninstaller. On Windows NT 3.51, the program icon titled "Uninstalling
Interactive Physics" appears in the Interactive Physics program group. On Windows 95,
use the item "Add/Remove Program" in the Control Panel, and look for the item
titled "Interactive Physics 3.0."
The Uninstaller removes the Interactive Physics files and then attempts to delete its
directory. However, since the uninstaller does not remove any files created
AFTER the Interactive Physics installation, the files you created on your own
(such as Interactive Physics document) will not be deleted. Therefore, the
uninstaller will fail to delete the Interactive Physics directory if it contains
any files you created.
In addition, the Uninstaller will NOT delete the shared libraries (such as
CTL3D32.DLL) installed by the Setup, if other programs that are
installed after Interactive Physics depend on these libraries.
Interactive Physics Uninstaller will ask you whether it can delete these files
ONLY IF the reference count of these DLLs are decremented to zero (i.e.,
when your system Registry shows that Interactive Physics is the only application
that relies on these libraries).
