  53. may only be used on one computer at a time.  Storage on the computer is

  66. 2.0 Introduction
  67.  
  68. The purpose of MasterSplitter(TM) is to split large files in order to move 
  69. them via floppies or for transmission via E-mail. MasterSplitter(TM) is an 
  70. ultra-fast 32 bit file splitter. The file can either be a binary or a 
  71. text file. The program features an intuitive graphical user interface 
  72. that makes splitting files easy. There is currently also a version for 
  73. Microsoft Windows 3.1 with the same great interface.

  75. The program can also be easily be invoked directly from Windows Explorer 
  76. by simply right-clicking on any file and then selecting Send to 
  77. MasterSplitter(TM).

  79. If you want to send the pieces to someone who doesn't have 
  80. MasterSplitter(TM), simply check the Create Reassemble Batch File" check 
  81. box and either a DOS/Windows 3.1 or a Win95/NT 4.0 compatible batch file 
  82. will automatically be created that you can send with the pieces to put 
  83. it back together.

  107. 4.0 Installing and System Requirements
  108.  
  109. MasterSplitter(TM) has been tested under Microsoft Windows 95 and Windows 
  110. NT 4.0 with a Intel Pentium based PC.  There is currently also a version 
  111. for Microsoft Windows 3.1 with the same great interface.
  112.  
  113. To install MasterSplitter(TM), simply unpack the zip file and run the 
  114. setup.exe program.  To uninstall it, select MasterSplitter(TM) from the 
  115. Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

  118. 5.0 Splitting Files
  119.  
  120. To start MasterSplitter(TM), choose it from the Start Menu OR simply start 
  121. it directly from Windows Explorer by simply right-clicking on any file 
  122. and then selecting Send to MasterSplitter.  The split tab from 
  123. MasterSplitter(TM) controls the file splitting operation.  Enter the file 
  124. name including the full path of the file you wish to split. If you can't 
  125. recall the name, just select the browse button and you can find it. Or 
  126. create a shortcut on your desktop, and you can drag files you want to 
  127. split to it.

  129. Enter the size of the pieces you want to create.  The default 
  130. corresponds to a full 3.5 high density diskette.  IF AND ONLY IF you're 
  131. confident that you will no longer need the original file, select the 
  132. check box for delete original when done.  I DON'T recommend doing this 
  133. until your comfortable with using the program.

  135. Be sure that you have free disk space at least equal to the size of file 
  136. your splitting or it won't work.  When you're ready to go, click on the
  137. split button to get things started. If you click on the split button
  138. without changing any other options, the pieces will be created in the 
  139. same directory. If you don't want that, click on the alternate directory
  140. radio button and you'll be prompted for a different location.  You can 
  141. choose another drive, directory, or your floppy drive.

  143. If you want to send the pieces to someone who doesn't have 
  144. MasterSplitter(TM), simply check the "Create Reassemble Batch File" check 
  145. box box and either a DOS/Windows 3.1 or a Win95/NT 4.0 compatible batch

  147. put it back together.

  149. Note that MasterSplitter will not split folders, although this can be 
  150. done quite easily by zipping the folder first with a zip program, and 
  151. then splitting the zip file with MasterSplitter.

  153. Many people wonder what the point of the tiny .000 file is.  The original
  154. file is contained in pieces .001 to .00n.  You can think of the .000 file
  155. an .INI or information file that contains important information about the
  156. properties of the original file when you split it. Things like its
  157. creation dates, and size, etc.

  159. 6.0 Joining Files
  160.  
  161. To start MasterSplitter(TM), choose it from the Start Menu.  The join tab 
  162. from MasterSplitter(TM) controls the file joining operation.  Enter the 
  163. file name of the FIRST of the previously split pieces including the full 
  164. path.  If you can't recall the name of a piece, just select the browse 
  165. button and you can find it.

  167. IF AND ONLY IF you're confident that you will no longer need the file 
  168. pieces, select the check box for delete pieces when done.  I don't 
  169. recommend doing this until your comfortable with using the program.

  171. When you're ready to go, click on the join button to get things started.

  173. When you are using the batch file to re-join the pieces, remember to copy
  174. all of the file pieces and the batch file to ONE folder before trying to
  175. run the batch file. Remember to pass this instruction on to anyone you 
  176. might be sending the pieces to as well.  While the batch file does work, 
  177. the preferred method of joining files is to use MasterSplitter to do the
  178. job.

  180. 7.0 Comparing Files
  181.  
  182. The compare tab from MasterSplitter(TM) controls the file comparison 
  183. operation. You may want to use this as a double check before deleting 
  184. anything.  Enter the original (BIG) file name including the full path of 
  185. the file you wish to compare with its pieces. If you can't recall the 
  186. name, just select the browse button and you can find it.

  188. Enter the file name of the FIRST of the previously split pieces 
  189. including the full path.  If you can't recall the name of a piece, just 
  190. select the browse button and you can find it.

  192. When you're ready to go, click on the compare button to get things 
  193. started.
