  35. WebMirror(TM) 1.1 is a World Wide Web utility shareware for 
  36. Windows 95.
  37.  
  38. It allows on-line service users to download web pages to their
  39. local hard disk for off-line browsing. Of course, other users
  40. through LAN connections can also use WebMirror to mirror their
  41. favorite web pages.
  42.  
  43. It is also a handy tool for web authors or administrators to
  44. duplicate their web sites in its entirety or mirror only 
  45. specific directories.

  47. The user can set options to limit a mirroring operation by the
  48. number of files, or the number of bytes. There will never be 
  49. a non-ending downloading as each mirroring action is also 
  50. limited by the depth of hyperlink traversing, which is also 
  51. decided by the user.

  53. WebMirror will save you money and time by maximizing your 
  54. on-line time. The automated downloading also eliminates the 
  55. need to browse and save files and pictures manually when you 
  56. are archiving your favorite web pages.

  64. Frames and floating frames are supported now, so are background
  65. graphics files and background sound files. Scripts are also 
  66. handled. Besides, background files for table, table row, table

  82. WebMirror(TM) 1.1 comes in a single zip file. Simply create a
  83. destination directory to hold the zip file and unzip the
  84. contents to the directory.

  86. All files in the zip file must reside in the same directory
  87. to ensure proper functioning of the program.

  89. There are four files in the zip file:
  90.  
  91. ReadMe.Txt        The current file you are reading
  92. WebMirror.Exe        The executable file for Windows 95
  93. Wininet.Dll        A redistributable Dll for network calls
  94. Form.Txt        Registration form and mailing label

  96. If your unzip utility cannot handle long filenames, you may 
  97. download the 32-bit version of the WinZip utility from 
  98. http://www.winzip.com/winzip/.

  100. You may create a short-cut to WebMirror.Exe on your desktop
  101. for easy accessing.

  103.   2.2 How to start mirroring?

  106. (1) To start mirroring, first key in a HTTP URL in the "Download
  107. from" combo box. For example, you may enter 
  108. http://www.someone.com to download the starting page at 
  109. http://www.someone.com and its subsequent linked pages. Or, you 
  110. may specify http://www.someone.com/First/ to download the 
  111. pages linked by the starting page in the /First subdirectory.
  112.  
  113. (2) Then, key in or browse to a directory for saving your 
  114. downloaded files. For example, you may set "c:\mirror\someone".
  115.  
  116. (3) Choose a HTML file processing option. 
  117.  
  118. Select "Modify hyperlinks accordingly" if you wish to do 
  119. off-line browsing from your hard disk after mirroring. The
  120. hyperlinks in the web pages downloaded will be modified
  121. to point to the files on the hard disk or the host if they
  122. are not downloaded.
  123.  
  124. Select "Copy only" if you just want to copy the web pages
  125. exactly as they are in their host. With this option, the
  126. pictures and hyperlinks will not appear correctly if you
  127. browse from your hard disk. Hence, this option is more for
  128. web site backup or archival.

  130. (4) Check and set the Download Maximum options as specified
  131. in section 2.3.
  132.  
  133. (5) Choose the "Mirror" button to start mirroring.
  134.  
  135. You will see the progress logging in a status window. You
  136. may cancel the mirroring by pressing the "Cancel" button.
  137. However, as the networking process is blocking (synchronous),
  138. cancellation will not be immediate.

  140. (6) When the mirroring is completed, the "Cancel" button
  141. is changed to "OK".
  142.  
  143. (7) When a URL does not specify a file name, the default
  144. file name for a path is "index.htm". For example, if you
  145. specify http://www.someone.com as the URL to download
  146. from. The default starting web page on your hard disk
  147. is "index.htm".

  149. (8) Click "Browse" to activate your favorite Web 
  150. Browser to browse from the first downloaded page on your
  151. hard disk. Enjoy.

  153.   2.3 How to set download options?

  158.     
  159. (1)    Number of Level(s)       The number of levels to traverse
  160.                 from the starting web page.
  161.                 To download 1 page, you should
  162.                 put 0 level.
  163.                 To download the starting web
  164.                 page and all linked pages, you
  165.                 should put 1 level.
  166.                 To download the starting web
  167.                 page and all linked pages and
  168.                 the linked pages of the linked
  169.                 pages, you should put 2. With
  170.                 2, the number of files to down-
  171.                 load may swell to a big number.
  172.                 It is not recommended to use
  173.                 more than 3 levels although it
  174.                 is allowed.

  176. (2)    Number of Files        The maximum number of files to
  177.                 download. This number includes the
  178.                 picture files. Set it to a big
  179.                 enough number if you wish.

  181. (3)    Number of Mega-bytes    The maximum number of MB of
  182.                 disk space to be used for
  183.                 mirroring.

  189. WebMirror(TM) is a shareware for Windows 95. You are free to 
  190. distribute it on your FTP sites, CD-ROM or other media provided
  191. you keep this package intact. Also, if you are including
  192. WebMirror(TM) on a CD-ROM, please send a complimentary copy
  193. of the CD-ROM to the author.
