  17. 1. WHAT IS PRIVATEEXE FOR WIN'95/NT
  18. -----------------------------------
  19. PrivateEXE for Win'95/NT is an innovative software which allows 
  20. you to password protect existing 32-bit Windows executables. You 
  21. can effectively lock your most sensitive programs and utilities 
  22. (like tax preparation or financial planning software) from 
  23. unauthorized access. Only the person who knows protection password 
  24. can run the program.

  26. PrivateEXE is safe and efficient. Unlike other "protection" 
  27. software, it does not run in the background to provide its 
  28. functionality. With the other software, which claims to be 
  29. "password protecting", an intruder can simply kill the protection 
  30. program or remove it from startup group to disable entire 
  31. mechanism.

  33. PrivateEXE protects program itself, not its icon. The program will 
  34. remain locked even if you run it from plain command line.

  36. Passwords can be set, changed, and removed separately for each 
  37. program. PrivateEXE modifies existing .EXE file, so that the 
  38. program, if invoked, first asks the user for a password and would 
  39. not start unless the correct password is entered.

  41. PrivateEXE runs on both Windows'95 and Windows/NT. It operates 
  42. regardless of installed file system type (NTFS, FAT-32, FAT, 
  43. etc.). The software doesn't modify Windows Registry or any other 
  44. part of the operating system. Neither does it create any hidden 
  45. files or disk sectors - it only modifies the executable itself, 
  46. saving the original file under a different name for your safety.

  49. 2. HOW TO INSTALL AND RUN THE SOFTWARE?

  51. The original PrivateEXE for Win'95/NT distribution consists of the

  60. To install the software, you must be running Windows'95 or 
  61. Windows/NT and have about 300KB of free disk space. To start the 
  62. installation please run SETUP.EXE. It will ask you for destination 
  63. drive and directory, and then will transfer necessary files to 
  64. your hard drive and create program shortcut or Program Manager 
  65. group complete with icons. To run the software just double click 
  66. on "PrivateEXE" icon.

  69. 3. WHAT IS THE SHAREWARE EVALUATION COPY?

  71. PrivateEXE is neither free nor public domain software. It 
  72. copyrighted software, which is distributed as SHAREWARE, i.e. 
  73. using true "try before you buy" method.

  75. This version of PrivateEXE is intended for evaluation purposes 
  76. only. It is fully functional program with no time limiting. You 
  77. may use it freely and without any obligations for 30 days. 
  78. Thereafter, if you like the software and wish to continue using 
  79. it, you must pay for it.

  81. The registered version of PrivateEXE has NO "Bypass Password 
  82. Protection" button, which is displayed randomly in shareware 
  83. edition. In registered version pressing ALT+B to bypass password 
  84. protection has NO effect.
