  7. TechFacts 95 is a versatile Windows spy\trace utility that lets you examine
  8. your system's Windows, DOS, System and Network environment, including:
  9. Windows, Tasks, CMOS, Multimedia, and Heap blocks.

  12.  - String Search. Search for strings across files on local or remote drives.
  13.    Includes custom Registry, Shortcut, INI file and Program group searches

  15.  - Move It! function. This feature will scan your drives and will replace
  16.    references to programs \ applications you have moved. For example if you
  17.    moved c:\infospy  to e:\program files\infospy, this routine would scan
  18.    INI files, Registry, shortcuts and Group files for the references.

  20. Included are powerful integrated utilities to watch changes on your system
  21. that occur as a result of installing software or running programs as well
  22. as the ability to show disk utilization as a percentage of total disk used.

  24. There are 4 configurable resource monitors which let you monitor memory, heap
  25. or disk percentage available as well as a Windows 95 registry monitor to
  26. monitor CPU usage, disk and network performance.

  28. In addition there are multiple resource and disk alarms.

  30. You can search for DLLs Files and Duplicate files. Any file can be viewed in
  31. native or Hex mode, copied to the clipboard or printed.

  33. Powerful Action toolset lets terminate processes, unload modules,
  34. capture part of your desktop and save\restore your CMOS.

  36. As this utility was developed for Tech support organizations, every piece of
  37. TechFacts information can be either FAXED or EMAILED automatically and
  38. easily. Complete Modem, Fax, MAPI email and Internet email code is embedded
  39. into TechFacts 95, nothing additional to setup!

  41. The help file is also embedded into Techfacts 95. In other words: TECHFACTS 95
  42. does not rely on any other files on your system! Nothing, no DLLs, no drivers.

  45. Installation
  46. ============

  48. To Install:   TechFacts 95 requires no installation! Copy the program to the
  49.               directory you want and run it! There are no file dependancies!
  50.  
  51.       The first time you run TechFacts 95 a built-in wizard will help you
  52.       determine certain settings.
  53.  
  54.       TechFacts 95 will require 1200k on your hard drive
  55.       and there are no memory or configuration requirements.
  56.  
  57. To Uninstall:
  58.       1. Use the Uninstall icon that will be in the TechFacts 95 folder.
  59.       2. If there is no icon then remove the "TechFacts95" subkey from the
  60.          "Software" key in the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER" key of the registry. You
  61.          can user the "REGEDIT" registry program that is part of Windows 95.
  62.       3. Delete the TechFacts 95 directory and it's contents.

  113.  1. New Feature: "Move It!". This utility will scan INI files, Program Groups,
  114.     Shortcuts, Links and the Registry for references to a file or folder and
  115.     will replace them with a new File\Folder. Necessary when you move apps to
  116.     new locations or drives.
  117.  2. New Feature: "String Search". This function will search for strings across
  118.     all files on local or remote drives. Includes specialized searches to scan
  119.     INI files, the Registry, Long File Names, ShortCut .LNK files and Program
  120.     Group files. Extremely powerful and Fast.

  122.  4. Corrected bug that did not show details for modules when double-clicked.

  130.  9. Corrected bug that prevented the "Capture Specific Portion" of the screen

  132. 10. Updated Screen Capture utility to repaint the captured image on the
  133.     display form when the size of the captured image changed.
  134. 11. Modified the embedded help so that it can be read\accessed while you are
  135.     still using the program.
  136. 12. Updated all forms to handle Large Fonts or different screen resolutions
  137.     that were causing text and buttons to be scrunched.
  138. 13. Automated the custom monitor resize routine so that custom monitors always
  139.     fill the form area.

  142. Ver 1.20 - 2/7/97
  143.  1. NEW search for all icons in windows files. Lists all icons that it finds
  144.     imbedded in EXE, ICO, DLL, etc.. files. Save icons to new icon files.
  145.  2. NEW search for version information from all EXE, DLL, DRV & VXD files.
  146.     Lets you see what program versions you have and what OS they will run on,
  147.     who wrote them and other manufacturer information.
  148.  3. Updated all buttons to be "Windows Explorer" type where they automatically
  149.     "show up" when you pass the mouse over them.
  150.  4. Got rid of references to ShowMan and WatchMan on the main caption.
  151.  5. Corrected bug in "Disk Usage" that only allowed it to be run once without
  152.     restarting TechFacts95.
  153.  6. Corrected bug that allowed you to run multiple file searches at once,
  154.     causing GPFs.
  155.  7. Added capability in "System Watch" for system to reboot and the watch to
  156.     carry on. This involved setting TechFacts to run automatically through the
  157.     registry. There is a checkbox on the form to disable this feature as well.
  158.  8. Added new capability to have "Process Monitor" automatically start when
  159.     TechFacts 95 is started. There is a new checkbox to enable\disable this
  160.     feature on the "Startup" tab in configuration.
  161.  9. Added code behind the "Add" and "Delete" buttons for INI files in the
  162.     system watch.
  163. 10. Provided 'hints' for the rest of the buttons.
  164. 11. Added a new configuration option that lets you specify the interval between
  165.     refreshing the monitors. Default is 1000 ms, however you can adjust from
  166.     250ms to 10000ms.
  167. 12. Corrected bug with the 'clear before search' feature which wasn't clearing
  168.     the list before starting a new search... it is now...
  169. 13. Added Vertical splitter bars to all the search functions. This 'RED' bar
  170.     allows you to dynamically resize the search criteria panel.
  171. 14. Reworked the DLL search feature. Got rid of the pesky drive window that
  172.     appeared and replaced it with a search criteria panel. Also added a button
  173.     to allow duplicate DLLs to be deleted. Also provided true 'Abort'
  174.     capability to end the DLL search at any time.
  175. 15. Corrected problems with the Print Preview coming up with weird fonts and
  176.     not saving font changes.
  177. 16. Updated the Key for TechFacts in the registry so that the Version number
  178.     was not part of the key but is now just a data value within the CONFIG
  179.     value section.
  180. 17. Added a PASTE button which will paste from the clipboard to any
  181.     non-columnar panels.
  182. 18. Added a command line query to allow users to see command line options
  183.     without going into help, run Techfacts like this "TEKFCT95 ?".
  184. 19. You can now preload the TechFacts 95 configuration from an ascii file.
  185.     This is useful when you distribute TechFacts 95 to users and want them to
  186.     have a set configuration. The file can be defaulted to the TechFacts 95
  187.     directory or you can provide a local or network path. The file can be made
  188.     to delete itself after a single usage.
  189. 20. Added an option in the configuration form to set the SMTP default port.
  190.     The port defaults to 80 however some users complained of different port
  191.     usage.
  192. 21. Reworked the main menu, modified the 'Action' menu options and moved all
  193.     email\fax options to the new 'Email\Fax' menu.
  194. 22. Added capability to create new empty MAPI and SMTP emails, easier than
  195.     invoking other email programs.
  196. 23. Added ability to create a blank detail form which can be used to paste
  197.     multiple pieces of data. Helps consolidate snapshots of systems.
  198. 24. The detail form now has the ability to send MAPI and SMTP email.
  199. 25. Made the 'Clear' button work with the DLL Search listboxes.
  200. 26. The size and position of the detail form is now saved for future
  201.     positioning.
  202. 27. Cleanup of internet email form so that it handles Winsock errors cleaner
  203.     and works better with RAS dialers.

  280. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before
  281. buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you
  282. are expected to register. Individual programs differ on details --
  283. some request registration while others require it, some specify a
  284. maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything from the
  285. simple right to continue using the software to an updated program with
  286. printed manual.
