  21. To install tape device driver files:
  22.  
  23.  1. Select "Control Panel" from the "Settings" menu.
  24.  
  25.  2. Double click on the "Tape Devices" icon.  Choose the "Drivers"
  26.     tab.
  27.  
  28.  3. Make a note of the type of drivers currently installed.  For
  29.     each of the tape drivers you want to update, sequentially
  30.     select each driver and click "Remove" to remove the driver
  31.     from list.  If you are initially adding new drivers, please
  32.     skip this step.
  33.  
  34.  4. Select "Add..." from the "Drivers" tab.
  35.  
  36.  5. Select the "Have Disk..." button.
  37.  
  38.  6. Enter the drive/path to the directory where the desired 
  39.     "oemsetup.inf" file is stored on disk.
  40.  
  41.  7. Select "OK" in the "Install From Disk" window.
  42.  
  43.  8. Select one of the options in the "Choose the driver you want
  44.     to install, and then click OK." list in the "Install Driver"
  45.     window; i.e., select the description of the set of tape drives
  46.     that you want load a device driver for.
  47.  
  48.  9. Select "OK" in the "Install Driver" window.
  49.  
  50. 10. If the option appears, then select "New" in the "Windows NT
  51.     Setup" dialog; then enter the same drive/path to the
  52.     floppy disk that was entered in step #6 above.  IMPORTANT:
  53.     always select "New" if it appears -- do NOT select "Current"
  54.  
  55. 11. If you wish to install other tape device drivers, select "No"
  56.     in the "System Settings Change - Do you want to restart your
  57.     computer now?" window and repeat steps 4 to 10. After all the
  58.     needed device drivers have been installed, select "Yes" in 
  59.     this window to shutdown and restart Windows NT.  This will
  60.     activate the changes made.

  63. B. Storage Device and Driver Information
  64. ========================================
  65.  
  66. The following is a list of drivers supplied with Backup Exec v7.2.
  67. This list displays specific device support for each driver 
  68. class as of October 6, 1998.  Any capacities noted with specific
  69. devices assumes no hardware compression.  The left column (where 
  70. noted) identifies the SCSI INQUIRY string of the device.  The 
  71. right column identifies Vendor and/or Model.

  73. Note: Any information referenced with "loader" pertains to the 
  74. drive internal to a loader.  Autoloader support requires a 
  75. separate driver.  Autoloader support is not available for 
  76. Backup Exec Small Business Server Suite for Windows NT
  77. Version 7.x.

  199. Please note that Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 4MMDAT.SYS driver
  200. also recognizes most of these drives. If you want to use our
  201. SONYSDX.SYS driver with NT 4.0, replace Microsoft's 4MMDAT.SYS
  202. driver with our 4MMDAT.SYS driver in addition to installing 
  203. the SONYSDX.SYS driver. The supplied drivers have been tested
  204. against both NT 3.51 and NT 4.0.

  266. Hardware Compression
  267. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  268. Tapes made using hardware compression on one manufacturers drive
  269. may not be readable by a different manufacturers drive.  If
  270. exchange between different tape drive manufacturers is desired,
  271. then software compression (or no compression at all) should be
  272. used.  Additionally, it is recommended that when hardware
  273. compression is used on the first set on tape, all subsequent sets
  274. should also be hardware compressed.  Mixing of hardware and
  275. software compression on the same tape should be avoided.
  276. However, mixing of software compression and sets containing no
  277. compression is acceptable.

  279. Notes on specific loaders
  280. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  281. Spectra Logic SPECTRA 4000, 5000, 9000 & 10000 Tape Library - This 
  282. loader's touch pad is not disabled during Backup Exec operation.  
  283. The only functionality that is disabled is tape movement from
  284. slots to the access door.  This makes it possible to move
  285. tapes around in the magazine; however, various Backup Exec
  286. hardware errors will result.

  288. Notes on Adaptec AHA-154x contoller
  289. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  290. Using Adaptec 154x cards earlier than "E rev" may cause tape
  291. autoloaders to fail.  The aha154x.sys driver in NT 4.0 will 
  292. reject certain commands causing the driver/software to appear
  293. broken.
