=============================
Tape Device Driver Installation Instructions
Windows NT 4.0
==================================================================
To install tape device driver files:
1. Select "Control Panel" from the "Settings" menu.
2. Double click on the "Tape Devices" icon. Choose the "Drivers"
tab.
3. Make a note of the type of drivers currently installed. For
each of the tape drivers you want to update, sequentially
select each driver and click "Remove" to remove the driver
from list. If you are initially adding new drivers, please
skip this step.
4. Select "Add..." from the "Drivers" tab.
5. Select the "Have Disk..." button.
6. Enter the drive/path to the directory where the desired
"oemsetup.inf" file is stored on disk.
7. Select "OK" in the "Install From Disk" window.
8. Select one of the options in the "Choose the driver you want
to install, and then click OK." list in the "Install Driver"
window; i.e., select the description of the set of tape drives
that you want load a device driver for.
9. Select "OK" in the "Install Driver" window.
10. If the option appears, then select "New" in the "Windows NT
Setup" dialog; then enter the same drive/path to the
floppy disk that was entered in step #6 above. IMPORTANT:
always select "New" if it appears -- do NOT select "Current"
11. If you wish to install other tape device drivers, select "No"
in the "System Settings Change - Do you want to restart your
computer now?" window and repeat steps 4 to 10. After all the
needed device drivers have been installed, select "Yes" in
this window to shutdown and restart Windows NT. This will
activate the changes made.
B. Storage Device and Driver Information
========================================
The following is a list of drivers supplied with Backup Exec v7.2.
This list displays specific device support for each driver
class as of October 6, 1998. Any capacities noted with specific
devices assumes no hardware compression. The left column (where
noted) identifies the SCSI INQUIRY string of the device. The
right column identifies Vendor and/or Model.
Note: Any information referenced with "loader" pertains to the
drive internal to a loader. Autoloader support requires a
separate driver. Autoloader support is not available for
Backup Exec Small Business Server Suite for Windows NT
Version 7.x.

Please note that Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 4MMDAT.SYS driver
also recognizes most of these drives. If you want to use our
SONYSDX.SYS driver with NT 4.0, replace Microsoft's 4MMDAT.SYS
driver with our 4MMDAT.SYS driver in addition to installing
the SONYSDX.SYS driver. The supplied drivers have been tested
against both NT 3.51 and NT 4.0.

Hardware Compression
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tapes made using hardware compression on one manufacturers drive
may not be readable by a different manufacturers drive. If
exchange between different tape drive manufacturers is desired,
then software compression (or no compression at all) should be
used. Additionally, it is recommended that when hardware
compression is used on the first set on tape, all subsequent sets
should also be hardware compressed. Mixing of hardware and
software compression on the same tape should be avoided.
However, mixing of software compression and sets containing no
compression is acceptable.
Notes on specific loaders
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Spectra Logic SPECTRA 4000, 5000, 9000 & 10000 Tape Library - This
loader's touch pad is not disabled during Backup Exec operation.
The only functionality that is disabled is tape movement from
slots to the access door. This makes it possible to move
tapes around in the magazine; however, various Backup Exec
hardware errors will result.
Notes on Adaptec AHA-154x contoller
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Using Adaptec 154x cards earlier than "E rev" may cause tape
autoloaders to fail. The aha154x.sys driver in NT 4.0 will
reject certain commands causing the driver/software to appear
broken.
