MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
----------------------
To use Eudora and pdQbrowser Version 1.0,
you must have the following:
- Palm Computer(TM) platform device with
350 KB RAM total
- Palm Computer platform modem device
(unless you only get your mail via the HotSync(R)
process)
- Windows or Mac desktop computer (only
for installation)
--------------
INSTALLATION
--------------
To install the Eudora and pdQbrowser applications:
1. Copy the files Eudora_1.0.prc and pdQbrowser_1.0.prc to your desktop
computer. (Note that you may have a different version in which case
the file name maybe slightly different, for example Eudora_1.05.prc)
You can do this from a diskette, CD, or from the electronic seller's
web site.
2. Install the software by using Palm's Install Tool program.
3. From your Palm computer, run a HotSync operation. The Eudora and
pdQbrowser applications will transfer from your desktop computer to
your Palm computer.
4. For installing the conduit, please refer to the pdQsuite User
guide. The conduit works on 32-bit Windows platform only.
---------------------
Eudora 1.0 FEATURES
---------------------
- Supports Internet-standard POP3 and SMTP to receive and
send messages.
- Provides the most efficient message retrieval by
including full "pipelining" and "UIDL" support in
its POP3 support.
- Can limit the number of messages downloaded from server
and retrieve more messages later.
- Can limit the number of lines of a message downloaded
and retrieve the rest later.
- Includes extensive filters to control which messages are
downloaded and where they are filed.
- Includes mail sorting and filing options for general
message management.
- Displays all common text email formats including HTML
and non-US character sets (except Asian languages).
- Gives better readability for replies you send and receive
by using flowing text and excerpt bars for reply quoting.
- Provides address book look-up and includes support for
personal address lists.
- Can launch pdQbrowser by tapping on URLs.
- Handles full standard "mailto:" links and URLs.
---------------
Eudora ISSUES
---------------
- pdQsuite does not work with TCP/IP network connections
via infrared. The detailed explanation for why pdQsuite fails
where other network applications don't is that pdQsuite does
"non-blocking socket I/O". This enables you to scroll web pages
while they are downloading and also allows easier cancellation
of network operations while downloading mail and web pages. Most
other network applications do not do this. We believe that the
non-blocking I/O does not work with infrared network connections.
We are currently working with 3COM to address this issue.
- Issues with cut/paste into message body with large
amounts of text and/or Hackmaster extensions.
- Can't cancel mail check during hostname lookup part of
the mail check (Looking up...). It works fine after that.
- When composing messages with long email addresses, especially
those with full names such as "Adam Smith" <adam@smith.org>,
the full name and address may not show in the single line address
display that also shows the message text. However it will be sent
correctly, and it will show in full if you go to the full screen
address editor.
- If mail sending is interrupted, all queued messages may not
be sent. The number of unsent messages is not reported in the
Send Results dialog. This does not prevent the unsent mail from
being sent next you connect to the outgoing mail server.
-------------------------
pdQbrowser 1.0 FEATURES
-------------------------
Supports a subset of HTML 3.2 features.
Includes the following text mark-up capabilities:
- Text is shown in two different sizes: bold
and regular forms of each, and underlining.
- Displays hyperlinks with a dotted underline.
- Draws italic text with a dashed underline.
- Does not support fixed-width text.
- Does not display images.
- Displays alternative text, when provided.
- Frames are not fully supported, but
you can view one frame at a time.
- Supports HTML forms, with the exception
of the TYPE=FILE INPUT field (TYPE=IMAGE acts
as a submit button). Multiple-choice SELECT fields
are represented as separator checkboxes.
- Supports character entities and numeric references
for the entire PalmOS character set, including Unicode
numeric references for non-ISO8859 characters
(e.g.: • = • = bullet character).
- Does not support tables, scripts, and style sheets.
- Supports some miscellaneous browser features including:
HTTP basic authentication, cookies, redirection,
and refresh (timed refresh not supported).
- "mailto:..." URLs will launch Eudora.
------------
Cache size
------------
Copies of pdQbrowser pages are kept locally in order to speed
operation. By default, up to 300K of the device's memory is used for
this cache. However, you can limit the amount of storage used by the
cache by entering a different value in the application's preferences
dialog box. Just choose PREFERENCES from the OPTIONS menu.
------------------
pdQbrowser ISSUES
------------------
- You cannot enter text into a form field until the document has
finished loading.
-----------------------------------
pdQsuite Eudora Conduit 1.0 ISSUES
-----------------------------------
Issues relating to the pdQsuite Eudora Conduit are covered in a
separate readme called pdQconduit_readme.txt. Please look for it in
the directory in which you installed the conduit software.
----------------------------
Purchashing and Registering
----------------------------
As distributed pdQsuite will run for 30 days. After 30 days you will
no longer be able to visit web sites or send and receive e-mail, though
you will be able to view old mail messages and cached web pages.
To purchase pdQsuite, please visit our web site at
http://www.pdQsuite.com.
There is e-mail and telephone technical support available for
registered users of the pdQsuite software.
-----------------------------------
SUGGESTIONS FOR ADDITIONAL FEATURES
-----------------------------------
From time to time, everyone comes up with an idea for something that
they'd like their software to do differently. If you have an idea that
you think might enhance the pdQsuite software, your input is always
welcome.
Please send any suggestions for new features in pdQbrowser or Eudora
to: pdqsuite-suggest@qualcomm.com
If you send mail to this list, you hereby agree that any idea
submitted becomes the sole and exclusive property of QUALCOMM.
You will receive an automated response indicating that your suggestion
has been received and forwarded to our engineering staff. Unless
additional information is needed, you will not receive a direct
response.
