  9. pdQsuite(tm) consists of the web browser pdQbrowser(tm)
  10. and the email client Eudora(R) for the Palm Computing(r)
  11. Platform.

  29. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  32. To use Eudora and pdQbrowser Version 1.0,
  33. you must have the following:
  34.  
  35. - Palm Computer(TM) platform device with 
  36.   350 KB RAM total
  37. - Palm Computer platform modem device 
  38.   (unless you only get your mail via the HotSync(R)
  39.   process) 
  40. - Windows or Mac desktop computer (only 
  41.   for installation)

  45. INSTALLATION

  48. To install the Eudora and pdQbrowser applications:
  49.  
  50. 1. Copy the files Eudora_1.0.prc and pdQbrowser_1.0.prc to your desktop
  51. computer. (Note that you may have a different version in which case
  52. the file name maybe slightly different, for example Eudora_1.05.prc)
  53. You can do this from a diskette, CD, or from the electronic seller's
  54. web site.

  56. 2. Install the software by using Palm's Install Tool program.
  57.  
  58. 3. From your Palm computer, run a HotSync operation.  The Eudora and
  59. pdQbrowser applications will transfer from your desktop computer to
  60. your Palm computer.
  61.  
  62. 4. For installing the conduit, please refer to the pdQsuite User
  63. guide. The conduit works on 32-bit Windows platform only.

  67. Eudora 1.0 FEATURES
  68. ---------------------
  69. - Supports Internet-standard POP3 and SMTP to receive and 
  70.   send messages.
  71.  
  72. - Provides the most efficient message retrieval by
  73.   including full "pipelining" and "UIDL" support in 
  74.   its POP3 support.
  75.  
  76. - Can limit the number of messages downloaded from server 
  77.   and retrieve more messages later.
  78.  
  79. - Can limit the number of lines of a message downloaded 
  80.   and retrieve the rest later.
  81.  
  82. - Includes extensive filters to control which messages are 
  83.   downloaded and where they are filed.
  84.  
  85. - Includes mail sorting and filing options for general 
  86.   message management.

  88. - Displays all common text email formats including HTML 
  89.   and non-US character sets (except Asian languages).

  91. - Gives better readability for replies you send and receive

  103. Eudora ISSUES
  104. ---------------
  105.  
  106. - pdQsuite does not work with TCP/IP network connections 
  107.   via infrared. The detailed explanation for why pdQsuite fails 
  108.   where other network applications don't is that pdQsuite does 
  109.   "non-blocking socket I/O". This enables you to scroll web pages
  110.   while they are downloading and also allows easier cancellation  
  111.   of network operations while downloading mail and web pages. Most  
  112.   other network applications do not do this. We believe that the 
  113.   non-blocking I/O does not work with infrared network connections.
  114.   We are currently working with 3COM to address this issue.
  115.  
  116. - Issues with cut/paste into message body with large 
  117.   amounts of text and/or Hackmaster extensions.
  118.  
  119. - Can't cancel mail check during hostname lookup part of 
  120.   the mail check (Looking up...). It works fine after that.
  121.  
  122. - When composing messages with long email addresses, especially
  123.   those with full names such as "Adam Smith" <adam@smith.org>, 
  124.   the full name and address may not show in the single line address
  125.   display that also shows the message text. However it will be sent 
  126.   correctly, and it will show in full if you go to the full screen 
  127.   address editor.

  129. - If mail sending is interrupted, all queued messages may not 
  130.   be sent. The number of unsent messages is not reported in the 
  131.   Send Results dialog. This does not prevent the unsent mail from
  132.   being sent next you connect to the outgoing mail server.

  136. pdQbrowser 1.0 FEATURES

  139. Supports a subset of HTML 3.2 features.

  141. Includes the following text mark-up capabilities:

  143. - Text is shown in two different sizes: bold 
  144.   and regular forms of each, and underlining.
  145.  
  146. - Displays hyperlinks with a dotted underline.
  147.  
  148. - Draws italic text with a dashed underline.
  149.  
  150. - Does not support fixed-width text.
  151.  
  152. - Does not display images.
  153.  
  154. - Displays alternative text, when provided.
  155.  
  156. - Frames are not fully supported, but 
  157.   you can view one frame at a time.
  158.  
  159. - Supports HTML forms, with the exception 
  160.   of the TYPE=FILE INPUT field (TYPE=IMAGE acts 
  161.   as a submit button).  Multiple-choice SELECT fields 
  162.   are represented as separator checkboxes.

  164. - Supports character entities and numeric references 
  165.   for the entire PalmOS character set, including Unicode
  166.   numeric references for non-ISO8859 characters 
  167.   (e.g.: • = • = bullet character).

  169. - Does not support tables, scripts, and style sheets.

  171. - Supports some miscellaneous browser features including: 
  172.   HTTP basic authentication, cookies, redirection, 
  173.   and refresh (timed refresh not supported).

  175. - "mailto:..." URLs will launch Eudora.

  179. Cache size
  180. ------------

  182. Copies of pdQbrowser pages are kept locally in order to speed
  183. operation.  By default, up to 300K of the device's memory is used for
  184. this cache. However, you can limit the amount of storage used by the
  185. cache by entering a different value in the application's preferences
  186. dialog box. Just choose PREFERENCES from the OPTIONS menu.

  193. - You cannot enter text into a form field until the document has
  194.   finished loading.

  201. Issues relating to the pdQsuite Eudora Conduit are covered in a

  203. the directory in which you installed the conduit software.

  209. As distributed pdQsuite will run for 30 days. After 30 days you will
  210. no longer be able to visit web sites or send and receive e-mail, though
  211. you will be able to view old mail messages and cached web pages.
