  1. COMPUSERVE INFORMATION SERVICE OPERATING RULES

  3. A.  INTRODUCTION
  4.  
  5. These Operating Rules are provided to help make online information
  6. usage and communications a positive and secure experience for
  7. members.  Members agree during the online sign up procedure to the
  8. terms and conditions outlined in these Operating Rules.  These
  9. Operating Rules are part of the terms of your Service Agreement
  10. with CompuServe, and you are bound by them.  The definitions used
  11. in the Service Agreement will also apply to these Operating Rules.
  12. CompuServe may modify these rules at any time by publishing the
  13. modified rule(s) over the Service.

  15. B.  COMPUSERVE COPYRIGHT
  16.  
  17. The content on the Service is protected as a collective work under
  18. applicable copyright law. The copying, redistribution, or
  19. publication by member of any such content or any part of the
  20. Service is prohibited, except as expressly provided in these
  21. Operating Rules.

  23. Each member who places information, software or other content, in
  24. the public areas of the Service grants CompuServe the right to
  25. edit, copy, publish, distribute, translate, and otherwise use in
  26. connection with the Service, such information, software or other
  27. content.  Subject to this grant, each member who places
  28. information, software or other content on the Service retains any
  29. rights member may have in such information, software or other
  30. content.

  32. C.  COPYRIGHTED MATERIAL

  34. Copyrighted material must not be placed on the Service without the
  35. permission of the owner(s) or person(s) they specifically
  36. authorize. Only the owner(s) or such authorized person(s) may
  37. upload copyrighted material to the Service.

  39. Members may download copyrighted material for their own use. Except
  40. as expressly provided by copyright law, copying, redistribution, or
  41. publication must be with the express permission of CompuServe and
  42. the owner(s) or such authorized person(s), if other than CompuServe.
  43. Permission must be specified in the document, on the Service, or
  44. must be obtained directly from CompuServe and the owner(s) or such
  45. authorized persons(s), if other than CompuServe. In any copying,
  46. redistribution, or publication of copyrighted material, any changes
  47. to or deletion of author attribution or copyright notice are
  48. prohibited.  Downloaded software may not be reverse engineered
  49. unless specifically authorized by the owner of the software's
  50. patent and/or copyright.

  52. D.  PUBLIC DOMAIN MATERIAL

  54. Any member may upload public domain programs to the Service. Any
  55. member may download public domain programs for their own use or
  56. non-commercially redistribute a public domain program. Member
  57. assumes all risks regarding the determination of whether a program
  58. is in the public domain.

  60. E.  CONTENT & USES OF THE SERVICE

  62. Member agrees not to publish on or over the Service any
  63. information, software or other content which violates or infringes
  64. upon the rights of any others or which would be abusive, profane
  65. or offensive to an average person, or which, without the approval
  66. of CompuServe, contains any advertising, promotion or service any
  67. solicitation of goods or services for commercial purposes. This
  68. paragraph, however, shall not be interpreted to restrict member
  69. from utilizing CompuServe mail in the conduct of a legitimate
  70. business except that member may not, without the approval of
  71. CompuServe, send unsolicited advertising or promotional material.

  73. Member agrees not to use the facilities and capabilities of the
  74. Service to conduct any business or activity or solicit the
  75. performance of any activity which is prohibited by law or to
  76. solicit members to become members of other competitive
  77. information services.  Member agrees to comply with all applicable
  78. laws, rules and regulations in connection with the Service or the
  79. Service Agreement.

  81. EDITING, DELETING AND MANAGING CONTENT

  83. CompuServe reserves the right in its sole discretion to edit or
  84. delete any information, software or other content appearing on the
  85. Service, regardless of whether it violates applicable standards for
  86. content.

  88. G.  SERVICE TERMINATION
  89.  
  90. CompuServe reserves the right in its sole discretion to suspend or
  91. terminate Service to any member at any time.
  92.  
  93. H.  INDEMNIFICATION
  94.  
  95. Member agrees to indemnify and hold CompuServe harmless from any
  96. claims and expenses, including reasonable attorney's fees, related
  97. to member's violation of the Service Agreement, including these
  98. rules or any information, software or other content placed on the
  99. Service by the member.
  100.  
  101. I.  USE OF ACCOUNT
  102.  
  103. Multiple members of the same household may share a single User ID
  104. number account.  However, only one person is authorized to access
  105. the Service at any given time on one User ID number account.
