  3. Diskeeper[R] Lite for Windows NT[R] V1.1.174 -- x86 Platform

  5. This text file provides information you should know about this 
  6. version of Diskeeper Lite.

  9. IMPORTANT NOTE
  10. ==============

  12. Service Pack 2 for Windows NT 4.0, which contains fixes for 
  13. potential data corruption and many other fixes is now available 
  14. at the following location:
  15.  
  16. ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/bussys/winnt/winnt-public/fixes
  17.  
  18. While we have not received any reports of file corruption in field test, 
  19. we have found that applying this Service Pack has resolved some 
  20. intermittent problems running Diskeeper.  Therefore, we strongly 
  21. recommend applying this Service Pack to your Windows NT systems.

  24. A NOTE TO LAPTOP AND NOTEBOOK USERS
  25. =================================
  26.  
  27. Diskeeper Lite is only supported at this time on laptop or notebook 
  28. computers running Service Pack 2 or 3 for Windows NT 4.0.

  31. KNOWN INCOMPATIBILITIES IN THIS RELEASE
  32. =======================================
  33.  
  34. 1.  Diskeeper for Windows NT is not compatible with systems 
  35.     using the DPT Smart Cache III controller, unless Service 
  36.     Pack 1 for Windows NT 4.0  has been installed.  Do not run 
  37.     Diskeeper on systems using the DPT Smart Cache III controller 
  38.     until you install Service Pack 1 on your Windows NT system.

  41. PLATFORMS AND OPERATING SYSTEM VERSIONS SUPPORTED
  42. =================================================

  44. This version of Diskeeper Lite is supported on Intel x86 
  45. platforms running Windows NT 4.0 builds 1381 and higher. 
  46. It is not supported on Windows NT 5.0.

  49. REQUIRED PRIVILEGES
  50. ===================
  51.  
  52. You must have Administrator privileges to install and
  53. operate Diskeeper Lite.

  56. INSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE
  57. =========================
  58.  
  59. Follow these steps to install Diskeeper Lite:
  60.  
  61. 1.  From Windows NT Explorer or File Manager, double click on
  62.     SETUP.EXE in the directory where this README.TXT file resides.
  63.  
  64. 2.  Read the information displayed in the Setup Installation 
  65.     Wizard boxes and click the "Next" button as appropriate.
  66.  
  67. 3.  In the "Choose Destination Location" dialog box, either 
  68.     accept the default installation location, or click the 
  69.     "Browse" button to specify a different disk and/or 
  70.     directory.  If you specify a directory that does not exist, 
  71.     the setup program will create it for you.  Click the 
  72.     "Next" button after specifying a disk and directory, or to 
  73.     accept the default installation location.

  75. 4.  After a short period of copying files, the installation is 
  76.     complete.

  79. UNINSTALLING DISKEEPER LITE
  80. ===========================

  82. Follow these steps to remove Diskeeper from your computer:
  83.  
  84. 1.  From Control Panel, double click "Add/Remove Programs".
  85.  
  86. 2.  Click the "Install/Uninstall" tab.
  87.  
  88. 3.  Highlight "Diskeeper Lite".
  89.  
  90. 4.  Click the "Add/Remove" button.  This removes the Diskeeper 
  91.     program files from your computer.
