Video JokerPoker v1.0.SW
(c) 1994 Brandon Staggs, Imperative Software
SECTION ONE: Shareware and Copyright Notice
Video JokerPoker is Copyrighted 1994 by Brandon Staggs, Imperative Software.
You may distribute Video JokerPoker by any means you wish, provided no
changes to the program files are made. You may use this program free for a
five-day trial period, afterwhich you must either stop using it or register
(pay for) it. You may not sell this program without prior written consent of
the author. You are authorized to charge a reasonable duplication fee (no
more than $3.00 S&H). All other rights are reserved.
The shareware method of selling software allows you to "try before you buy."
Please support this method by honoring the registration policy for this
program. If you enjoy using it, pay for it. If you don't, simply cease
using it.
SECTION TWO: Registration Information
You would most likely pay anywhere from $25 to $70 in a software store for a
program of this quality. But since this is shareware, and Imperative Software
does not need to pay for advertising, duplication and packaging, you will
only pay $8.25 for this quality game. Still, if you do not enjoy this game
after five free days of use, you may simply cease using it at no cost to you.
But if you deem this software worth a mere $8.25, simply write a check or get
a Postal Money Order made out to Brandon Staggs, and send it to:

Because I live in Hawaii, Postal Money Orders are far easier to cash than
checks. Therefor, if you send a money order, service will be faster (and
easier for me).
Upon registration (when I get the money order (max two days to cash) or when
the check clears (a minimum of four days to cash)), you will be sent the
latest version of Video JokerPoker, registered in your name, on a 3.5" floppy
disk (unless otherwise specified) and a printed manual. (I do accept
registrations for entire families at no extra cost--just give me the family
name it should be registered to.) You will also receive notification of
updates to VJP, and discounts on other Imperative Software products in the
future.
PLEASE make sure you include the product name you are registering and a
valid return address!
SECTION THREE: Introduction to VJP
Video JokerPoker is a computer version of Video Poker machines found in
casinos. This program is intended to provide the fun of these machines
without the kick in the pocketbook.
The object of VJP is to get the highest ranking poker hand. You are dealt
five cards from a deck of 53 (a standard 52 card deck plus one Joker card).
You then have the option of dropping none, some or all of your cards. You
are then dealt cards to replace the cards you dropped, and your hand is
ranked. If you have a winning hand, you may then choose to try to "Double"
your hand by guessing if the next card in the deck is either Hi or Low (a
seven is an automatic loss, a Joker is an automatic win). If you win the
double, you may try to double again up to a total of five times.
The hands rank as follows:
Five of a Kind - Four cards of the same rank, plus the Joker.
(3h, 3h, 3h, 3h, Joker)
Royal Flush - All the face cards, plus the 10 and Ace of one suit.
(10s, Js, Qs, Ks, As)
Straight Flush - Five cards in sequence of one suit.
(Ac, 2c, 3c, 4c, 5c)
Four of a Kind - Four cards of the same rank.
(Ah, 9d, 9h, 9c, 9s)
Straight - Five cards in sequence.
(6h, 7h, 8s, 9c, 10c)
Flush - Five cards of the same suit.
(Ad, Jd, 2d, Kd, Ad)
Full House - Three cards of the same rank with two cards of the same rank.
(6s, 6c, 6d, Qh, Qs)
Three of a Kind - Three cards of the same rank.
(5h, 5s, 5c, Kc, 2s)
Two Pair - Two cards of the same rank with two cards of the same rank.
(7s, 7d, 10s, 10c, Ah)
Jacks or Better - Two cards of the same rank above 10.
(Jh, Jd, 2d, 5s, 9c)
The Joker is a wild card (it acts as any needed card), except in a Five of a
Kind hand. Natural Hands (winning hands which do not contain a Joker) pay
double the winnings.
SECTION FOUR: Using VJP
Play goes in this order:
Press enter to deal a hand, or press q to quit VJP.
You will be dealt five cards face-down.
Place your bet by pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. 1 is a One Dollar Bet, and so
on.
Your cards will be turned face-up.
Select which cards you want to hold by pressing 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 (these keys
toggle the HOLD/DROP status for the corresponding card). Press enter to deal
the replacement cards.
If you lose, you will begin again.
If you win, you may either try to double the pot or just take the pot.
Make your choice by pressing d to take your chances on doubling the pot, or
press t to play it safe and take the pot.
If you win the double, you may try to double the pot again, up to a total of
five times.
Once you lose your pot or choose to take it, you will begin again.
