  1. 1) DOS 4.0 - Avoid using this "buggy" version of DOS; unexpected results have
  2.    been reported with file management and mouse intialization; use 4.01 !
  3.  
  4. 2) Fast Machines - Use VGACAD with the "/SL:n" option.  Certain menus zip
  5.    right through you.  At DOS prompt type "VGACAD /SL:1000"; a 1000 delay
  6.    affects only the spray function and will be sufficient for 386's at 20MHz.
  7.    All other functions will require the release on mouse button to proceed.

  9. 3) Terminate and Stay Resident Programs - Certain TSRs (e.g., screen blanker,
  10.    BIOS interceptor, BIOS accelerator) may cause the program to hang.  We
  11.    encourage getting a mouse; avoid using the keyboard mouse emulator.  SYS
  12.    files in CONFIG.SYS file behave like TSRs.

  14. 4) Mouse and Keyboard - Systems that write an address for a mouse interrupt,
  15.    when no mouse exists, will cause VGACAD to 'hang'.  Run KEYME.COM then
  16.    run VGACAD with the "Force Keyboard" switch ("VGACAD /FK") if you don't
  17.    have a mouse and do not get the "USE KEYBOARD (Y/N)" prompt.

  19.    Some optical mice (e.g. PC Mouse, Kraft, Quadram) are incompatible with
  20.    BIOS calls used in VGACAD.  If you have mouse problems - run the MOUSE.COM
  21.    file that comes with your mouse instead of MOUSE.SYS (DEVICE=MOUSE.SYS) in
  22.    your CONFIG.SYS file; if your mouse moves erratically then adjust mouse
  23.    parameters described in COMMAND LINE usage.  If your mouse "hangs" the
  24.    system, then use the "/FM" ("Force Mouse") option; it assumes your mouse
  25.    is initialized by some other program, which YOU MUST DO BEFORE RUNNING
  26.    VGACAD; make sure you have the text cursor OFF or use another graphics
  27.    program to initialize your peculiar mouse !

  29. 5) BIOS compatibility is required for palette read/write fucntions.  Some
  30.    "compatible VGA cards" ARE NOT AS COMPATIBLE AS THEY THINK THEY ARE (e.g.,
  31.    Orchid Designer VGA w/ BIOS v9.4 and below); you may need to run VGAFIX,
  32.    which is included in this package; before using VGACAP or VGACAD.  The
  33.    following representative sampling of registered users' VGA cards have
  34.    confirmed excellent operation:

  36.         (1) ALL IBM PS/2's
  37.         (2) COMPAQ, DELL and PARADISE VGA cards (all BIOS versions)
  38.         (3) ORCHID Designer VGA (BIOS v1.1 or 9.5)
  39.         (4) VEGA VGA (all BIOS versions)
  40.         (5) ATI VGA VIP (BIOS v1.03 - 1.06)
  41.         (6) Everex EVGA (unknown BIOS version)
  42.         (7) STB VGA E/M (unknown BIOS version)

  44. 6) Printing the manual on older versions of EPSON printers will not show the
  45.    extended ASCII character set used for illustrations; we highly recommend
  46.    using a Shareware program called IMPRINT (v1.5) to print the manual; it
  47.    does an EXCELLENT job of printing the manual with LETTER-QUALITY output
  48.    on "generic" 8-pin Epson/IBM compatible printers.
