Duke Ellington, <I>center,</I> was one of the leading figures in jazz history. For almost 50 years, he led an orchestra that featured many of the finest soloists in jazz. They included alto saxophonist Johnny Hodges, <I>left,</I> and clarinetist Jimmy Hamilton, <I>right.</I>
