  8. These ruins of the Indus Valley civilization were uncovered at Mohenjo-Daro, Pakistan. The civilization was centered in what are now Pakistan and northwestern India. It began to flourish about 2500 B.C. and became one of the first great civilizations. It broke up into smaller cultures by about 1700 B.C. The large depression shown here may have served as a bathing area.
