Alexander the Great (356-323 B.C.) was one of the most successful generals in history. Through his military conquests, he built an empire that stretched from Greece to India. The empire covered much of what was then considered the civilized world. Alexander's conquests helped spread Greek culture in Egypt and western Asia.
