During the Middle Ages, many lords had mounted warriors called <I>knights.</I> In times of peace, a lord and his knights entertained themselves by holding tournaments in which they practiced for war. In the tournament pictured here, the knights on horseback have galloped toward each other in an attempt to drive their lances through each other's armor.
