¢=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=¢¢ Presidents Message¢ by Alex Pignato¢ 3/16/91¢¢¢ Before I retired, my already¢retired friends would constantly tell¢me how busy they are, and they¢wondered how they had time to go to¢work. Let you in on a secret folks, it¢seems to be true. I retired on MARCH¢1, 1991, and so far I have been¢running all over the place, and more¢importantly, I have been swamped with¢letters, and forms of all kinds,¢Insurance, Social Security, Pension,¢Estate planning etc. etc., but why¢bore you folks to tears. Suffice it to¢say that the OL' HACKERS has in fact¢received about one third more time¢from me than before I retired, but¢when am I going to relax on the sofa¢with a cold beer with nothing to do?¢One tip to you younger folks, start¢financial planning as early as¢possible. You will never have too much¢money with inflation always eating¢away at your capital.¢¢ At the last meeting, after being¢all packed and ready to leave the¢library, we spoke of an informal¢meeting sometime between March 9th¢(meeting date) and April 14th (next¢meeting date). Seems as how we all¢felt we would need an ATARI group¢meeting fix before the next meeting.¢JACK GEDALIUS promptly offered his¢house, and a group of us met on MARCH¢14th in the evening. Tips and ways of¢using the 8 BIT were passed around,¢programs were demoed, and all had a¢good time. Mrs. GEDALIUS graciously¢served coffee and cake, but I had to¢rush off and missed that part of the¢night cause I had something else to¢do. I told you I was a busy guy! ¢¢ I want to take just a moment to¢jump on my soap box again, and tell¢those of you who sit back and do not¢get involved in your club. Your¢missing out on a lot, people! You can¢take my word for it. I receive so many¢nice letters from all my scattered¢ATARI friends, and I can't wait to¢open a letter from any of them, to see¢what surprises they have in store for¢me. Also, lets not forget how much fun¢it is to demo a program, even if your¢not perfect at it. While I am¢demo'ing, I enjoy hearing someone in¢the audience pipe up and tell me about¢a new feature of the program that I¢never knew existed. In fact, I got¢involved with SPARTA DOS because of¢the fact that it was demoed by KEVIN¢BLAES years ago, and afterward by good¢old KRIS HOLTEGAARD. I learned about¢the MIO board, hard drives etc. etc.¢at meetings. I certainly would never¢have gone as far as I have (little as¢it is), if it weren't for THE OL'¢HACKERS ATARI USERS GROUP. Thanks OL'¢HACKERS, I owe you a lot.¢¢TAKE A TIP FROM ME--READ MY LIPS--AND¢GET INVOLVED!--YOU'LL LIKE IT!¢¢=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-¢¢ Special Acknowledgment Department!¢¢ -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-¢¢ Too often we fail to recognize¢people who have given more than their¢share of effort for the club. One such¢person is the ever non assuming, laid¢back, pleasant mild mannered, all¢around nice guy and hard worker for¢the OL' HACKS, ALLEN C. ATKINS. He has¢been the Secretary, for at least 5¢years, constantly producing meaty,¢interesting minutes of club meetings,¢but also during the last 2 or 3 years,¢he has been the club treasurer as¢well. Do you enjoy your eating your¢CAKE at the meetings? Guess what? Yes,¢ALLEN is the one who goes to the¢outlet store on JERICHO Turnpike to¢get us cake at a tremendous savings.¢Just another little item that we all¢take for GRANTED. Why not go up to¢ALLEN and thank him for his¢contribution to the club? I'll say it¢now for myself.....THANKS ALLEN, OL'¢HACKERS would not be where it is if it¢werent for the likes of guys like you.¢WE OWE YOU A DEBT OF GRATITUDE!¢¢ ALLEN has asked to be relieved¢as secretary (writers cramp?), and the¢club now needs a replacement... THIS¢IS A MOST IMPORTANT POSITION. We must¢have a volunteer. Please consider what¢happens if we do not have a secretary!¢Do your bit for the club. I asssure¢you it will be appreciated by our¢members!¢¢ Lest we forget, let us¢acknowledge our hard working¢LIBRARIAN, HAROLD PEGLER, who though¢retired, has a written weekly schedule¢that would kill a horse, including¢taking courses, and belonging to other¢organizations. In spite of that, he¢has started to revamp our P.D. library¢records, and has given us an updated¢listing. He has also given many demos,¢and is always willing to help solve¢anyones computer problems...THANKS to¢you too HAROLD.¢¢ Can I leave out CARLOS HURTADO,¢our newsletter CO-EDITOR? No way! He¢is a most reliable person, who, if he¢says he will undertake a job, you can¢rest assured IT GETS DONE! He has been¢involved on the newsletter for the¢last few years, and done a HELLUVAJOB!¢Well done CARLOS. You are another one¢of our most valuable club member. The¢newsletter we all enjoy so much, owes¢a great deal to CARLOS's efforts¢Thanks CARLOS from all of us.¢¢ Just to show your appreciation,¢why not pat these guys on the back and¢tell them you appreciate all their¢efforts?¢¢ I have picked out a few people,¢but in the future, I hope to be able¢to add to the list of REAL WORTHY CLUB¢MEMBERS! Will you be one of them?¢ ALEX PIGNATO¢¢ *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*¢¢ ¢
