Transcription: The bracken fern is the only species of fern found in our range. It is a coarse, stout fern with triangular shaped fronds one to two meters in length forming large colonies. It occurs throughout the Rockies and is widely distributed in the world. It grows in open areas on either moist or dry ground and sometimes becomes established on burned over areas. When killed by frost, the fronds turn a bright rusty color which makes patches of it conspicuous in autumn.
