So, you think you have what it takes to be a starship captain? It takes a great deal of skill and concentration to become adept at one of the Alliance's most demanding positions. Accordingly, the rewards for the successful are great: honor, notoriety, and respect. For those who fail, however, there is only the eternal emptiness of space...
Welcome to the upper ranks of the Alliance. Now comes your chance to prove your worthiness of the title of Starship Captain, at the command of one of the Alliance's most advanced spacecrafts, the IAS Reliant. Your starship is endowed with many important features: three torpedo bays, phaser banks, shields, warp engines and, most importantly, four capable young officers. Your ability to orchestrate these many features will largely determine whether you succeed or fail at your command.
The Alliance wishes you the best of luck. You will need it.

There are more and more computer programs related to the Star Trek genre. On the games side of the releases is MacTrek, Net Trek, Trek, Rescue!, and now Missions of the Reliant!. This game is what the others wanted to be. The sounds and graphics are the most outstanding part of this game. As the commander of the Reliant you are given a mission that you must complete. Of course this mission surrounds around fighting the enemy and saving the friendly people. At the onset of the game you are told where the enemy is and you must proceed to the coordinates to kill them. Upon getting to the coordinates you must use your lasers and torpedoes to kill the enemy while fending off their attack. I have found that if you concentrate on killing just a few and then sitting back while your ship recharges, or going back to the starbase to recharge, the mission can be accomplished. At the beginner level the game can be very challenging, so expect many hours of enjoyment from this game.
Game play is limited to one scenario with the unregistered version, but upon registering the user will receive more scenarios plus other features not included in the unregistered version.
The funny thing about this game is that this is the first Game, Mac Program & Pascal Program that the author has done. Michael has done a wonderful job implementing the graphics and sounds. If you want to play one of the best games for the Mac then look this one up.
