This package updates Square One version 2.0 to version 2.0.1. It contains an updater for the application and new version of the extension. This update fixes some bugs and problems in Square One version 2.0:
1. The Active Applications Palette now switches applications appropriately in all circumstances. In version 2.0, it would occasionally fail to switch.
2. The Quit item no longer unpredictably disappears from the File menu.
3. A problem with the zoom box on the PowerBook 100 was fixed.
4. Crashing conflicts with Now UpToDate and Now Contact were eliminated.
5. Some redraw errors were corrected.
6. Multiple palettes will now all open at startup. In version 2.0, sometimes only one palette would open at startup even if multiple were open before shutting down.
7. Square One no longer crashes under System 6 (but it still requires System 7).
8. A conflict with FileMaker Pro and Freehand which prevented documents from opening was fixed.
9. The memory scheme was improved.
10. Holding down the option key while selecting a palette name from the File menu will delete it. Many users found it annoying that there was no way to remove these names.

To update your copy of Square One:
1. Go into your Square One 2.0 ƒ. Locate the application named “Square One 2.0.” Change the name to “Square One 2.0.old.”
2. Double click on the file included with this package named “Square One 2.0.1 updater.”
3. Follow the instructions and update your application.
4. Move the file “Square One 2.0 Extension” from the Extensions folder (inside your System Folder) to the Trash.
5. Copy the file “Square One 2.0 Extension” (included with this package) to the Extensions folder (inside your System Folder).
6. Restart your computer and empty the trash. You may delete the file Square One 2.0.old if you like.
Here are some hints for avoiding problems with Square One:
1.Square One is fully compatible with System 7.5. The Compatibility Checker may erroneously report that it is not.
2. If you change the name of a folder that is in your palette you may have trouble navigating through it using the Square One menu. To update the Square One menu simply select the folder from the palette itself and open it. This should update both the palette and the Square One menu to the new folder name.
3. There are some applications (i.e. MPW, TeachText) that bypass the normal methods of opening files. In these cases recent documents may not show up in the document list. In the case of applications that automatically open the last file used (i.e. TouchBASE Pro) you can close that file and then reopen it from the File menu using the Open… command. The document will then be added to the recent documents list.
4. Sometimes applications in a palette may suddenly stop accepting drags. If this happens, remove the application from your palette, rebuild the desktop, and re–add it. This should fix the problem.
5. If you wish to remove a palette from the recent palettes list in the File menu, hold down the option key while selecting it from the palette.
6. Sometimes the file “Square One Frequent Files” file can become corrupted. This may result in crashes when trying to open or save a file. To fix this problem throw away the "Square One Frequent Files" file in the Preferences folder of your System Folder. Then restart and empty the trash. Square One will create a new frequent files file and the problem will be fixed.
Known incompatibilities with Square One version 2.0.1:
1. A/UX: Square One does not work in A/UX.
2. Jasiks Debugger on Power Macintosh: Conflicts with the Square One Extension but works fine with the Square One Application. There is no fix available at this time.
3. Turbo Mouse: The Turbo Mouse software version 4.0.1 causes the "Hot Corners" to not function. There is a more recent version available (4.0.2 or greater) from Kensington (Phone: 800–535–4242) that fixes the problem.
4. Norton Disk Light: Older versions of Norton Disk Light conflict with the Macintosh Drag and Drop software from Apple which Square One installs.
5. Conflict Catcher 2.1.1: Conflicts with the Macintosh Drag and Drop software from Apple which Square One installs. Version 2.1.2 or later corrects the problem.
6. We have made every effort to test as many Extensions as possible for incompatibilities and have carefully followed all of Apple’s guidelines in writing Square One. If however you should encounter an incompatibility with another extension you can start your machine without extensions loading by holding down the SHIFT key at startup. You can release the SHIFT key when you see the message "Extensions off" below the "Welcome to Macintosh" message. Please let us know if you encounter an incompatibility so we can try to resolve it.
