there seems to exist at least two 2.0 versions of Norton Utilities out there. One has a CODE 31 resource that's 8520 bytes long while in another the same resource is 8521 bytes long instead. This situation has generated some confusion and frustration among some NU users who tried the 8520 patch, myself included.
The patch's writer, Dieter Spaar <spaar@mirider.augusta.de>, has kindly sent me a new patch that works with the 8521-byte version. I've created a patcher and am now submitting it.
Please note that there are now several patchs to consider: a patch for NU 2.0.6, one for the 8520-byte long NU 2.0, and one for the 8521-byte long NU 2.0.
I wish to acknowledge and thank the help of the following people with whom I have corresponded about this subject:
Buck Donham <buckaroo@ilhawaii.net>
Howard M. Fried <refried@email.unc.edu>
Dieter Spaar <spaar@mirider.augusta.de>
Tom Thatcher <ttha@uhura.cc.rochester.edu>
RBYTEISBST@aol.com
I also want to thank Michael Hecht for having created ResCompare, the free program I used to create the patcher out of the patch written by Mr. Spaar.
Please note that I make no guarantees as to the fitness of the patcher, Mr. Spaar's patch or ResCompare. Use them at your own risk. The most I can say is that they work well with my computer.
