  33. • AutoCat™ is a control panel that automatically creates a catalog of the files on your floppy disks (or on any other removable volume) when you put them away. With AutoCat™, you have only to write the name of your disks on their label. To find a file, you can use the Finder's "Find…" command as though your file was on your hard disk.

  35. • When you put away a disk, AutoCat™ creates a folder (with the same name as your disk and with a customized AutoCat™ icon) within the currently designated "Cataloged disks folder". Into this folder AutoCat™ puts aliases to all the files on the disk. Therefore, you will simply have to use the Finder interface to browse your catalog. It cannot be simpler and intuitive !

  37. • You can always assume the required file is on your hard disk, and when the Mac needs to read from it, it will just ask you to insert the corresponding volume. This allows you to :
  38.     - use the Finder™'s "Find…" command to find a file
  39.     - use any view from the Finder™ to browse your catalog
  40.     - avoid wasting time and memory by running an application
  41.     - be sure your catalog is always up-to-date
  42.     - access to your catalog via "Open..." dialog boxes from within applications

  44. •You can quickly catalog a series of disk. In the Archiving Mode, each disk you insert is cataloged and is immediately ejected.

  46. • AutoCat™ works with any Macintosh running System version 7.0 or higher.

  48. • To install AutoCat™, drag the file named “AutoCat™” onto your closed System Folder icon, then press “OK” when your Macintosh tells you that control panels need to be stored in the Control Panels folder. (If you use Gatekeeper, you have to create privileges for AutoCat™ - see the Online Help, Additional Information section for more details.)
  49. Now restart your Macintosh. AutoCat™ will automatically catalog your disks when you put them away.
  50. Note : if you replace a version of AutoCat™ older than this one, don't forget to restart your Macintosh before opening the new control panel. If you forget, your Mac may crash at shutdown or when you try the Archiving Mode.
