Transcription: Scientists had long dreamed of a reusable spacecraft, a space shuttle which would be launched into orbit and fly back through the atmosphere to land on a runway. Since 1981, shuttle flights have fulfilled the program's goals to deploy satellites or probes, to repair or retrieve satellites, and to conduct space experiments on board. Since 1988, shuttle missions have moved the U.S. toward the ultimate goal, the creation of a permanently manned, Space Station.
