The Chessmaster 3000. Software Toolworks announces the release of the award-winning Chessmaster 3000 for the Macintosh. Implementing many innovative attributes of the highly successful PC version, the new game introduces many sought-after features.
Players can select from any of four fully-detailed, spectacular chess sets including medieval fantasy collection, an undersea group, and a Chinese set. Three textured chess board designs — ivory, wood, and marble — round out an enticing game environment. Three perspectives — 3-D, 2-D, and four War Rooms — provide improved vantage points. The window in the War Room lists all captured pieces, shows a list of all past movies and displays a “thinking” window that reveals moves under consideration. The “thinking” window also shares strategy and planning techniques with the players. Additionally, the board can be rotated for a complete view of the game from all sides.

Sailing Master. Sailing Master simulates sailboat racing on standard courses similar to the layouts used in the America’s Cup and Olympic regattas. The player can control steering, sail trim, and boat heel on a single-handed racing yacht using the Macintosh mouse interface. The player races against up to three competing boats controlled by the computer. Dynamic views of the race from several perspectives provide immediate graphical feedback. Multiple skill levels and the Autopilot, Autoheel, and Autotrim features offer a continuing challenge.
The software features sailing effects such as moving telltales, bad air and blanketing tactics, wind shifts, and puffs and lulls, while enforcing the basic racing “rules-of-the-road.” The ability to repeat weather conditions allows multiple players to conduct time-trial competitions. A comprehensive manual containing a series of sailing lessons makes Sailing Master an excellent tool for learning or teaching sailing concepts.
