- a Nice File List Sorter 1.0 - Documentation
-
- The Nice File List Sorter for Red Ryder host system operators is a
- simple utility I use on the Nice BBS to provide my users with some
- a little easier method ofaccessing the files they want to Download.
- The output of the program is two files for each file you input. One
- of the two is a RR Host File list which has been sorted into newest
- addition sequence - this means the oldest files are last. The other
- output file is a "brief" list, which is a text file suitable for
- listing using the command 12 on your menu - it displays the file
- name and description only resulting in a single line per entry -
- Nice for 300 baud users!
-
- The program in its current form is not very Mac-Like and uses a
- simple TTY like interface. To use the program simply launch it
- like any Mac program. Once the program is running you will be
- presented a prompt to enter the file name. At this time you enter
- the FULL path name of the Red Ryder File List you want to sort. For
- example:
-
- bbs:pd:files:art files
-
- this path name describes a file list called "art files" on a disk
- called bbs in a folder called "files" which is in a folder called
- "pd".
-
- Dont worry about making mistakes - if it cant find your file you
- get an error message NOT a bomb! (I hope). (Note: I ahve not tried
- this on an MFS system, so experiment and let me know what you find
- out.)
-
- The program will report its progress in generating the two output
- files with messages displayed to the screen. If an error occurs
- it will display a message and quit.
-
- You should have no need for worry concerning your original file list,
- since the Nice FIle List Sorter opens the file name you enter for
- "Read only"... however, I would not try it without a backup if I
- were you. I have used the program for several weeks now without
- any problems - I am sure you have heard that one before!
-
- This is a simple "FREE" utility, it is not pretty but it makes life
- alittle more bearable for RR host users and sysops.
-
- If you like it or if you dont give me a call at Nice BBS 614/890-7944
- and let me know - that is the only payment I ask. Suggestions will be
- taken into consideration the next time I have the source file up. A
- Mac-like interface is planned using TransSkel or Simpletools - as soon
- as I get one or the other converted to Aztec C!
-
- Have fun
