I'm new to the Mac, a couple months, and have become determined to have a completly customized workspace. One element is Icons. AOL has been a good source for improved application icons, and a few nice custom icons. But I wanted a large number, all in a set. So I spent an immense amount of time creating four large sets of custom icons from downloaded GIFs, via Photoshop. This upload has ten each from two of the sets:
--Cartoon Icons, the sources gathered mostly from AOL's PC GIF section. The full set has 131 icons.
--CheeseCake Icons. The sources came from many BBS's, and AOL. These are all of the "Sports Illustrated" variety of cheesecake: no frontal nudity, which also conforms to AOL guidelines for appropriateness. There are 117 total.
The third set has 184 women' faces. I'm uploading a substantial part of that set separately as cicn's to put in menus. [The fourth set is of the "Penthouse" variety of cheesecake.] I'll send an HD diskette of the first three sets, in self-extracting compacted form, to those persons taking up any of the following challenges. Each set is in two forms, prepasted to numbered folders, and collected in ResEdit files, All icons have complete families.:
1. Writing an AutoIconPaster. I envision a control panel which allows one to link certain application/document types to certain icon "storehouse" folders. Then, when a new document is created, the iconpaster would select an icon from the storehouse and paste onto the document. Selection would be either random or sequentially using the storehouse folder numbers (or alphabetically by names).
2. I believe the world needs more flexible finder window structure. We need more grids than the cartesian ones currently allowed. See the Reptiles 1.1 application I uploaded to the graphics forum. Also, we need window translucency, so that what's behind can show through. A control somewhere in the border (on the left?) will allow each window to be adjusted for full opacity (as it is now) to full transparency.
3. Finally, we need stained glass "deskpictures." What I mean by this is, in addition to the brilliance of desktop pictures/backgrounds, the element of change. In the same way that a stained glass window changes as the sun moves, I would want my background glass to slowly change through the day. A very slow change, but one which affects the actual brilliance and color values of the photo, and perhaps not entirely evenly.
Just for interest, I acquired my machine as a FrameMaker platform. I use Canvas, EndNotes Plus and More to support FrameMaker and have maxed out on QuicKeys. I have just ordered Frontier as the next challenge, so anyone interested in exchanging tips please message me.
