Compiling composites from the drawings
---------------------------------------
Quick Guide
-----------
All of the drawings in the apparatus
files are drawn to the same scale.
Click on the drawing of your choice and
drag it into an empty file in !Draw.
Continue collecting apparatus in this
way until you have all you need.
Scaling to fit the Page Limits
------------------------------
The collection of apparatus may need a
very large page (maybe as big as A0) ;
once everything has been positioned correctly,
Select All and Group the objects. Transform
them by using Magnify repeatedly (try 0.5)
until the kit fits within the Page Limits.
Now you can print your compilation drawing.
Points to watch for:
--------------------
All the remaining pages assume a familiarity
with !Draw.
The drawings are just that and tricks are
used to produce some of the effects. When a
piece of equipment is placed within another,
ungrouping of invisible panels may be necessary
together with some adjusting of the layers
so that the apparatus within can be seen.
Other sizes of Glassware
------------------------
Many items of ground glass jointed apparatus
are standard . Thus , if a bigger flask is
needed , Ungroup the flask assembly and
de-Select (right hand mouse button) the neck.
Transform the still selected flask body by
using Magnify (e.g. use 1.26 to double and
0.79 to halve the volume) and then re-attach
the neck.
Mistakes ?
----------
Did you know that !Draw has an Undo facility ?
Did you know that !Draw has a Redo Facility ?
If you wish to track them down using the mouse,
then they are in the Misc sub-directory ; more
simply , they are actuated by the red keys F8
and F9 , respectively.
Creating your own ground glass apparatus:
-----------------------------------------
Always begin with the standard sized cones
and assemble them in the correct positions
with rectangles and circles as substitutes
for the final shaped glassware.
A 3,4,5 triangle , suitably colour filled
is useful for checking angles and whether
lines are straight or parallel when the
grid and grid-lock are inadequate.
Use of a grid:
--------------
Do not use too tight a grid on the screen as
the screen becomes unworkable because you
cannot see the points and the redraw time is
unbearably long !!
Remember to remove the Grid before zooming out
especially if you have had to use a fine grid.
!Artworks
---------
A few basic components have been supplied in
this format : the major advantage is that the
glassware can be so easily coloured with a
graded-fill. A 256-colour mode is essential
for the best results. The cones and sockets
can have their own colours defined within
the !Artworks palette.
Developments:
-------------
A complete set of all adapters will become
available later .
More exotic containers (e.g.flange flasks)
and multi-addition adapters are also
provided on Quickfit2.
