  3.      Compiling  composites from the drawings 
  4.      ---------------------------------------
  5.                  Quick Guide
  6.                  -----------
  7. All of the drawings in the apparatus 
  8. files are drawn to the same scale.
  9. Click on the drawing of your choice and
  10. drag it into an empty file in !Draw.
  11. Continue collecting apparatus in this
  12. way until you have all you need.
  13. Scaling to fit the Page Limits
  14. ------------------------------
  15. The collection of apparatus may need a
  16. very large page (maybe as big as A0) ; 
  17. once everything has been positioned correctly,
  18. Select All and Group the objects. Transform 
  19. them by using Magnify repeatedly (try 0.5) 
  20. until the kit fits within the Page Limits.
  21. Now you can print your compilation drawing.
  22.  
  23. Points to watch for:
  24. --------------------
  25. All the remaining pages assume a familiarity
  26. with !Draw.
  27. The drawings are just that and tricks are 
  28. used to produce some of the effects. When a
  29. piece of equipment is placed within another,
  30. ungrouping of invisible panels may be necessary
  31. together with some adjusting of the layers
  32. so that the apparatus within can be seen.
  33. Other sizes of Glassware
  34. ------------------------
  35. Many items of ground glass jointed apparatus 
  36. are standard . Thus , if a bigger flask is 
  37. needed , Ungroup the flask assembly and
  38. de-Select (right hand mouse button) the neck.
  39. Transform the still selected flask body by
  40. using Magnify (e.g. use 1.26 to double and
  41. 0.79 to halve the volume) and then re-attach
  42. the neck.
  43. Mistakes ? 
  44. ----------
  45. Did you know that !Draw has an Undo facility ?
  46.  
  47. Did you know that !Draw has a Redo Facility ?
  48.  
  49. If you wish to track them down using the mouse,
  50. then they are in the Misc sub-directory ; more 
  51. simply , they are actuated by the red keys F8 
  52. and F9 , respectively.
  53. Creating your own ground glass apparatus:
  54. -----------------------------------------
  55. Always begin with the standard sized cones
  56. and assemble them in the correct positions
  57. with rectangles and circles as substitutes
  58. for the final shaped glassware.
  59. A 3,4,5 triangle , suitably colour filled 
  60. is useful for checking angles and whether
  61. lines are straight or parallel when the 
  62. grid and grid-lock are inadequate.
  63. Use of a grid:
  64. --------------
  65. Do not use too tight a grid on the screen as
  66. the screen becomes unworkable because you
  67. cannot see the points and the redraw time is
  68. unbearably long !!                     
  69.  
  70. Remember to remove the Grid before zooming out
  71. especially if you have had to use a fine grid.
  72.  
  73. !Artworks
  74. ---------
  75. A few basic components have been supplied in 
  76. this format : the major advantage is that the 
  77. glassware can be so easily coloured with a 
  78. graded-fill. A 256-colour mode is essential 
  79. for the best results. The cones and sockets 
  80. can have their own colours defined within
  81. the !Artworks palette.
  82.  
  83. Developments:
  84. -------------
  85. A complete set of all adapters will become
  86. available later .
  87. More exotic containers (e.g.flange flasks)
  88. and multi-addition adapters are also 
  89. provided on Quickfit2.
