  1. Cybcerone is the result of an interactive kiosk project 
  2. for the University of Lausanne, Switzerland.
  3.

  5. The services Cybcerone provides were originally intended 
  6. to assist visitors on the University campus. These services 
  7. can be accessed by means of kiosks equipped with 
  8. touchscreens (without keyboard or mouse) and a modified 
  9. Web browser (HotJava), designed for people who are not 
  10. accustomed to using a computer. These kiosks are connected 
  11. to the University's network.

  13. In order to make the system as easy to use and 
  14. entertaining as possible to the general public, an 
  15. intensely graphical and interactive interface was selected. 
  16. Each night at 4 a.m. the kiosk is reinitialized so that the 
  17. user does not have to wait for images or data to load the 
  18. following day. The initialization process is, therefore, 
  19. quite lengthy.

  21. The Cybcerone system as it stands now is an Intranet 
  22. application available to the public via kiosks in selected 
  23. areas. However, we are planning to extend Cybcerone from 
  24. the public kiosk to the desktop Web browser in the near 
  25. future. The new, desktop version of Cybcerone will of 
  26. course be light and fast enough to run on the widest 
  27. variety of systems.

  29. This project has been developed for a French-speaking 
  30. public. Consequently, the applet interface is in French. 
  31. However, the applet provides all necessary information in 
  32. English on the status bar.
