What's New in PC-Gammon V Release 1.10.... 9/17/92
1. The biggest change is the addition of the play style feature. This
feature allows you to select either "Conservative", "Aggressive", or
"Out For Blood" play styles. Each style plays an increasingly better
game.
To, select a play style, click the "Style" button on the main menu,
a style selection list will be displayed. Click the mouse cursor
twice on a style to select it (you only have to click once if
the style is already highlighted). If you don't have a mouse, use
the arrow keys to highlight the style you want and then press
the enter key.
2. I have changed the way the "Automove" feature works. There are now
three levels of AutoMove, these are:
Level 1 : Automove turned on only for last die value, this
is the same as the old version of Automove.
Level 2 : Automove Level 1 Plus, automatically bear a man
off if there is only one possible move. For
example, if you rolled a 6,5 while bearing off
and your last man is on your 22 point, clicking
on that man will automatically bear it off without
your having to click again in the bearoff tray.
Remember, this level will only automove if there
is no other move, in the above example if you
rolled a 6,2 and clicked on the man on your
22 point, the program would not automatically
bear the man off because you have the option of
moving the man from the 22 to 24 point.
Level 3 : Automove Level 2 Plus, automatic moves of any man
if doubles are rolled. This allows you to click
once on any man and have it moved without having
to click on a destination. Since there is no
ambiguity on moves with regard to doubles this
works during bear-off as well as normal play. The
only detrement to this option is it eliminates
the ability to move one man all four values of
the double with just two clicks, etc.
3. Score history has changed in the following ways:
1. I removed the "Point Ratio" (the last number in the score history
display). This number was confusing, and often incorrect. The score
history now simply displays the cumulative points won for each
player.
2. The alignment of the numbers under the titles has been improved
for better readability.
4. Score Box Option: The score box in the upper right hand corner of the
screen has been modified. It now displays the playing style if you are
not in tournament mode. During tournament mode, the tournament tally is
displayed where the style is.
You now also have the option of viewing the scores for the current
"session" or your "cumulative" score in the score box. Mouse users
simply click the mouse cursor in the score box, and the score
display will alternate between current and cumulative.
Keyboard users must hit the F5 key to get the score view to change.
5. Score File: The score history, default settings and style information
are now stored with each players score record. This allows each palyer
to customize PC-Gammon to his/her liking (previously, there was just
one set of defaults for all players).
6. Mouse Problem: Some users have experienced problems with their mouse
drivers not properly handling the programs request to restrict the
mouse movement. Mouse movement was restricted when a dialog box
was displayed (i.e. when the computer offers a double, etc). The
mouse restriction has been removed, and this hopefully will clear
up the problem some of you have been having.
