About the ActiveX(TM) For Dummies(R) CD-ROM
We hope you enjoy exploring the world of ActiveX. This CD
contains HTML documents that graphically illustrate much of
the ActiveX code found in the book.
To view the examples on this CD, you need:
* An IBM-PC or compatible running Windows 95 or Windows 3.1
* Internet Explorer 3.0 for Windows 95 or Windows 3.1
* A CD-ROM drive
* A direct Internet connection with a 14.4K bps modem (OPTIONAL--
needed only to link to Web sites available from the CD)
If you have a Power Macintosh, you need to obtain the beta version of
the ActiveX Software Development Kit for Power Macintosh. This
software is available from the Microsoft Site Builder Web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/intdev/sdk/mac/mactivex.htm. Because of the
manner that ActiveX scripts for Windows are created, Mac users will
not be able to access many of the examples on the CD. However, the
SDK includes many ActiveX examples you can run.
Support for ActiveX on 680x0-processor Macintosh computers has been
promised by Microsoft, but was not yet available as of December 13,
1996.
To use the ActiveX SDK for Power Macintosh, you need:
* The ActiveX SDK
* A Power Macintosh or compatible
* Internet Explorer 2.1 or higher (the beta version of Internet
Explorer 3.0 for Macintosh, available as of this writing, will
also work), or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or higher
* MacOS System 7.5.3 or higher
* Metrowerks CodeWarrior 10 (commercially available software
needed for building ActiveX controls for Macintosh)
To begin, start your Web browser on your computer, and then
open the INDEX.HTM document on the CD.
For additional information, please see the About the CD appendix located in
the back of the book.
