All you need to know about the ADDANADD.EXE program
I found myself making two different programs to make BBS Advertisements
well rounded for the SysOp. For example I thought that a SysOp would like
the features of deleting old, or not wanted boards, as well as to add some
to the program, or edit those boards that are already on the list but had
changes done to the system (i.e. like higher speed modem or bigger hard drive
added to the Bulletin Board System).
This file will (as best as I can) describe how to use this program. What
you (as SysOp) will need to worry about etc..
First of all you will notice that when you load the program it will look
pretty much like the Door version, except that keys will be different etc..
This is so you will be able to check things out to make sure everything is
running right before a user logs on and you find a problem through him..
(problems that I am talking about are making sure the file is in place with
the correct name, making sure the board is edited right, and making sure the
ansi screen ends right itself).
The following is what the ADDANADD.EXE file will do..
1) The program will display the ANSI adds on your screen the way
they will be displayed on the callers screen when he uses the
program.
2) will allow you to Add, Delete, Edit ANSI screens.
Now onto what you need to know to do everything..
******* DELETING A BOARD FROM THE PROGRAM
Ok the one thing you have to keep in mind is that the FILE???? files are
in order of the menu that is displayed.. If you delete a board from the
program you will have to delete the FILE???? file that went with it. and
rename all the other that come after it..
How do I know which FILE???? file goes with each menu choose? well your
getting ahead of me.
There are 24 boards listed on each menu (when the menu is full) The program
will automatical make a new menu if you add boards to the program. The 1st
menu is addressed like this.
FILE0000 FILE0012
FILE0001 FILE0013
FILE0002 FILE0014
FILE0003 FILE0015
FILE0004 FILE0016
FILE0005 FILE0017
FILE0006 FILE0018
FILE0007 FILE0019
FILE0008 FILE0020
FILE0009 FILE0021
FILE0010 FILE0022
FILE0011 FILE0023
the list continues if the program makes more than one page.. going down
the left side then filling the right.
So if you deleted the board that was the 4th one down on the left side you
would delete the file FILE0003 and then you would rename all the other
files to FILE0004 to FILE003 and so on.. This was the easiest way I could
do this at present time.. other releases may have that option built in.
That should take care of deleting a board from the program...
***** ADDING A BOARD TO THE PROGRAM
NOTE: ANSI screens on this program work better if they are no bigger than
23 lines. but if it has to be bigger can goto 25.
Adding a program is the easiest part.. just change the name of the ANSI
file you recieved to the next FILE???? number avaible..
EXAMPLE the last file was named FILE0058 so the next one will be named
FILE0059 and the next one FILE0060.. and so on..
So as you might have guessed the program is able to handle up to 9,999
boards.. I think that should be enough... But you never know..
Now after renaming the file to the next FILE???? file. you must then load
the ADDANADD program, once loaded just hit A for Add a board. This will
then ask you What the name will be. This can be 30 Charaters in length.
Then after you enter the name of the board, it will send you to what looks
like the selection menu. you will go throw and hit your space bar on
all options that the board can meat.. This way it sets it up for the caller
to pick what he is looking for and be able to get the response he is looking
for.
After you are done with the first page, hit the PAGE DOWN key until you find
the State, country, whatever you need to lock in the location. After you are
done with all of this, hit ENTER (or RETURN depending on keyboard) and it
will then save the changes..
NOTE: all information is saved in the INIT file. If this file should become
erased BBS Advertisements will not work!! It is STRONGLY suggested you make
backups of the INIT file, if not the whole thing..
******* EDITING A BOARD
This is probably the easiest thing you can do. just move your cursor to
the board you wish to edit, then hit the E for edit key, it will ask you
what the name of the board is. If there is no change in the name you can
just hit the return or enter key to continue..
NOTE: this may be the way to delete boards from the program. Instead of
going through and renameing everything you can edit the switches from
the last board in that place, change the name of the board also, and then
delete that information from where ever it was you took it from. please
remember you will have to rename the file???? file to where ever it is
now located..
EXAMPLE:
board 3 (FILE0002) has gone down, and will no longer be availbe for callers.
you don't want to rename all 100 boards, so you goto the last board listed
in the program hit E and look at the settings that are set for that board,
then goto the third board hit E but this time enter in the new boards name
and information. Then hit return, exit program and copy FILE0100 to FILE0002
and erase FILE0100...
****** Finial notes..
I am not the best at documentations.. the next release will probably be
better. However instead of waiting that long you can give my board a call
and ask your questions you may have..
Monty's Place BBS

You will also see the phone number listed when leaving the ADDANADD.EXE
program.
I have made a standard FILE0000 file that explains to the user that they
can add their add to the program. you may wish to edit this to your likeing.
For example you may wish to tell them to leave all information needed to
program your board into the program. This is what I ask of my Callers and
SysOps that wish to add there ANSI add to my MAIN copy of BBS Advertisements.
Questionaire for adding you ANSI screen to BBS Advertisments.

Other Comments that will best help me add your board into the selection menu?:
All that I ask from you, is ever once in a while you call my board check for
new releases, and send all ANSI adds that you have on your door program that
I don't have.
This is so I can add them to the NON-DOOR version of this program. I would
also like it if you sent your INIT file, or all of the QUESTIONS for each
ANSI screen... I think it would be easier with your INIT, however if you
keep all your QUESTIONS and ANSWERS that would be better for me.
You may wish to put the QUESTIONS in the Script Questions (for those with
PCBoard).
