SysOp main documentation
NOTE: any information about the ADDANADD program is in the ADDANADD.DOC file
very few references will be made in this documentation. This documentation
is for setting up, and general use.
*** INSTALLING BBS Advertisements onto your BBS
1) Make a Directory somewhere on your hard drive (example: C:\BBSADDS)
2) Copy or Unzip all file into that directory.
3) For the most part you are finished. However I would first read the
ADDANADD.DOC file, and deside what if anything you want to do to the
FILE0000 file. (This file displays to the user that if he has a ANSI add
to add to the program what he needs to do. (See ADDANADD.DOC for more
information))
4) After editing the FILE0000 and making any other changes, or additions talked
about in the ADDANADD.DOC file. you will need to set up a batch file to
run the program and install the door onto your program (See your manual
on installing doors).
5) BBS Advertisements will work with the PCBOARD.SYS file or the DOOR.SYS
file (NOTE: if the file is not found it could lock up your system. try
hitting the ESC key if this should happen).
CD\BBSADDS
ADDS C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS
CD\PCB
BOARD
Or
CD\BBSADDS
ADDS C:\BBS\DOOR.SYS
CD\BBS
BBSprogram
6) Also it has Fossil driver support. In fact with BBS Advertisements I would
strongly recommend using a Fossil Driver. The program will work more
smoothly if you do. How you do this is:
ADDS C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS PORT:F:1
F tells the program that you have a fossil driver. the 1 is the com-port.
you can of course edit the com port to your liking..
7) What if I have a weriod com port? well there is a way for that too.
ADDS C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS PORT:AAAA:X
where AAAA is where you put the base address (hex) and X is the IRQ
setting (0-15 decimal).
8) What if I have a Digiboard??
ADDS C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS PORT:D:6
the D is tells the program you are using a Digiboard. The 6 just tells it
to use channel 6 on the digiboard.
NOTE: I have not been able to test the Digiboard stuff. I therefor do not
know for sure weather it works correctly.
After all this mess you should be all ready to go. You should be all set up
and the board is ready to run BBS Advertisements (BBS Version 1.00).
*** ERROR Messages
Error messages are not coded with 35 numbers that don't mean a thing..
The errors will just tell you what is wrong. FILE NOT FOUND, please inform
the SysOp is about the one message you as a SysOp will get real sick of if
you have edited the FILE???? files and they are not in the right order...
(See the ADDANADD.DOC file for more inforamtion).
Another one will be on load up.. CAN'T FIND INIT file. If this error
should happen the board will refuse to work and will kick the user back to the
BBS. You must have the INIT file in the same directory as the ADDS.EXE file
or the program simple will not work. (I would sugest you make backups of the
INIT file everyonce in a while) The INIT file is the whole Configuration of
ADDS.EXE, ADDS.EXE depends on the INIT file to supply it with the information
of how many boards are suppost to be displayed, what are they? what information
is about each board. without the file the program will not know what to do.
so it will simple just kick you back to the BBS.
*** REGISTERING... Please help the growth
BBS Advertisements was not orignaly planned to work on a BBS. However after
many SysOps around the Nation asking if I had a DOOR version I decided to make
one after all. The Door version alone has taken 2 months of programing,
screaming, studing, and everthing else. Even though the NON-BBS version is
FREEWARE, I have decided to make this shareare. However I am a strong
believer that Shareware should never go above $10.00. What I have done is
made it so you can have a break and help the growth of BBS Advertisements.
$8.00 is the amount I ask for if you send a disk with your ANSI add with
the QUESION.DOC file filled out, and either printed up or added to the disk.
Along with the order form and the Check or Money Order (U.S. dollars ONLY).
$10.00 is the amount I ask for if you are just sending the order form and
Check or Money Order (U.S. dollars ONLY). The added $2.00 is for the disk
that I will send you and shipping. I am willing to eat the shipping if you
send me your disk with your information. (NOTE: if a ANSI ADD and QUESTION.DOC
file is not found on the disk you will be expected to still pay the $10.00.
The special deal is for ANSI AD and QUESTION.DOC file to be on the DISK!)
What you get for registering?? Well you get the annoying UNREGISTERED
taken off with a REGISTERED TO: BBS NAME instead. The registered version
will also have a counter on it, so the user can tell with a quick look how
many ADs you have on your program. You will also get a Account on my BBS
so you can call up anytime to make sure there isn't any new versions of
either the BBS version or the NON-BBS version of BBS Advertisements, or any
other program that will come out under the Fremont Software name.
*** Finial NOTES:
I only really ask one thing. I ask that ever once in a while you ZIP up
all your ANSI screens, with either all the QUESTION.DOC files, or with the
INIT file you are useing and send them to my BBS every few months. This is
so I can take your ANSI Screens and add them to the NON-BBS Version. This
will get all your ANSI screens out to the world..
Also I will be starting up a bunch of files that registered Users of
BBS ADDS (BBS Version 1.00 or higher) well be able to download all ANSI
screens I have, however this is not yet started, but will be in the next month
or two.
Any Other questions, problems etc.. Please contact me.
