Upgrading to 3.3 from Version 3.2
Just overwrite your BBS_DOOR.EXE file with timestamp 03:20 with the
files marked 03:30 in this archive.
What's Fixed!
* Fixed the Bug when only ONE entry exists in the listing! Sorry
About that guys!!
Upgrading to 3.2 from Version 3.1
More Minor Fixes and Improvements!
just overwrite your old BBS_DOOR.EXE (timestamp 03:10)
with the one in the BBSDOR31.ZIP archive timestamped 03:20.
+ Added Color Support, Sysop Configurable with BBS_TOOL.EXE.. There
are custom color configurations or the sysop can change various
settings with BBS_TOOL.EXE COLORS command! (See BBS_TOOL.DOC for
more info!)
+ Now the number of entries that can be listed goes to [9999].. See
if any of you can fill that! (Sheesh! :) )
+ Faster Screen Clears and Draws! (Neato!)
Upgrading to 3.1 from version 3.0
Minor Bug Fixes AND Improvements!..
* Fixed first entry from being "0" (ZERO) when creating new listing.
* Faster Screen Clears when paging forward or backwards thru listing.
* When Editing an Entry or Using Search Function, Changes are written
directly to the field on screen.. I.E. no more annoying repetitive
screen redraws after each modification. Looks better and is actually
faster for those callers at 9600 or below. (Are there still some
out there? :) )
+ Added <A>bort option when Nuking or Editing Entries from the Listing.
+ Added [XX Entries] on the Menu Option Line to let users know how
many entries are in the current listing (Searched and Unsearched)
+ Added "Retrieving BBS Listing" message to avoid users thinking a
pause is a system halt!
+ Many other prompts will elicit the action the caller initiated..For
Example, If the caller decided to <Q>uit without Saving after an
entry edit, the prompt will show "Quit without Saving" instead of
just returning to the Listing Screen.
+ Probably added some other things to keep the program tighter and
less prone to halt! :)
Upgrading to 3.0 from version 2.6
+ Version 3.0 of BBS_DOOR.EXE now has RIP Graphics! The Caller gets
a hybrid of the ANSI screens and the new RIP Graphics. If the caller
has a RIP capable communication program, they will be treated to
Control Panels for the Main Menu options and the Search Menu options
as well as Help Screens in RIP format!
These Control Panels permit push button operation of most of the
program's features along with a numerical keypad. This makes
BBS_DOOR.EXE almost completely mouse driven!
NOTE! The /R<+/-> switch has been added as an option on the COMMAND LINE in
order to FORCE/DISABLE RIP Graphics!
(See the BBS_DOOR.DOC for more details)
If you are upgading from version 2.5 or above, you should overwrite
the following files:
Old File New File from ARCHIVE
---------- -------------------------
BBS_DOOR.EXE BBS_DOOR.EXE (timestamp 03:00)
renamed>> BBSHELP.ANS/ASC BBSHELP1.ANS/ASC (timestamp 03:00)
BBSHELP2.ANS/ASC BBSHELP2.ANS/ASC (timestamp 03:00)
BBSHELP3.ANS/ASC BBSHELP3.ANS/ASC (timestamp 03:00)
The additional files from the archive that should be placed in the
BBS_DOOR directory are :
BBSDOOR1.RIP {Main Menu Control Panel, RIP Format, No Nuking}
BBSDOOR2.RIP {Main Menu Control Panel, RIP Format, Nuking}
BBSEARCH.RIP {Search Menu Control Panel, RIP Format}
BBS_LOGO.RIP {Intro Screen in RIP format}
BBSHELP1.RIP {Help Screen for Main Menu, RIP Format, No Nuke!}
BBSHELP2.RIP {Help Screen for Main Menu, RIP Format, Nuking!}
BBSHELP3.RIP {Help Screen for Search Menu, RIP format}
There are no changes to the BBS_DOOR.XFR, BBS_TOOL.* files from
version 2.5 and 2.6.
Upgrading to 2.6 from version 2.5
+ Version 2.6 of BBS_DOOR.EXE is now DESQVIEW aware and should free up
CPU time when running multi-node. I have received a few concerns
from OS/2 sysops who say that version 2.5 is a CPU HOG! So if you
are running OS/2, I suggest you get a neat little program called TAME
that can pseudo timeslice like desqview, but under OS/2!
* Version 2.5 did not clean up the archive files, so a complete listing
was included from a previous callers download when a current caller
asks for a SEARCHED listing! Fixed!
The remainder of the files are unchanged, and if you are upgrading from
BBS_DOOR version 2.5, no changes need to be made. Just overwrite the
BBS_DOOR.EXE with the timestamp of 02:50 in your BBS_DOOR directory
with the BBS_DOOR.EXE (timestamp : 02:59) within this archive!
If you are upgrading from a version previous to 2.5, please read below!
Upgrading to Version 2.5 from Version 2.0
Version 2.5 of BBS_DOOR has more "improvements" and require the sysop
to update the BBS_DOOR.BBS file using 20TO25.EXE or 11TO25.EXE for
previous versions 1.0,1.1 and 2.0 respectively. The programs are
enclosed in this archive. There are also additions to the
BBS_DOOR.XFR file to activate the ability to ARCHIVE the listings
prior to downloading.
1> BBS_DOOR.XFR file still relies on external protocols to transfer the
listings to the users. However, version 2.5 now has the ability to
use external ARCHIVE programs such as PKZIP.EXE, ARJ.EXE, LHA.EXE, and
others that you choose to implement to COMPRESS the listing prior to
transfer. These ARCHIVE DEFINITIONS are placed in the BBS_DOOR.XFR file
and examples with doccumentation are shown in the sample BBS_DOOR.XFR
file within this archive! You may CUT and PASTE this additional
information to your existing BBS_DOOR.XFR file.
What is NEW in version 2.5?
+ New SEARCH Function Implemented!
Thanks to the reccomendation of James Heggie and Eridu BBS in
Alberta, Canada I have redone the [S]earch procedure allowing it
to do a cross-indexed search on all BBS entry fields except the
Comments. This will help anyone narrow large lists to their liking!
Vastly improved from the previous [S]earch function! This screen also
has a HELP file (BBSHELP3.ANS/ASC) included for online help.
+ New Utility Included : BBS_TOOL.EXE
This program will enable the sysop to do many functions from the
command line such as create Textfile listings from a batch file,
IMPORT additional entries from another BBS_DOOR.BBS file you may have
gotten from a friendly sysop, or IMPORT additional entries from a
TEXT FILE LISTING using a template of that listing to instruct BBS_TOOL
how to import the information. Read the Docs for more on this VALUABLE
feature!
This program will also help you RENUMBER the entries in case the
BBS_DOOR.BBS file gets corrupted.. (Hey, it could happen! :) )
What is Fixed?
* Text File Listing being generated was concatinating after 12
characters in the NUMBER field, so "(203)678-0751" became
"(203)678-075" when the file was written. FIXED!
* Some of the fields were getting truncated after the caller entered
more information on a prompt when word wrap took effect.. FIXED!
* Nuking an entry was an DO or DIE proposition.. Now the program
asks "Are You Sure?" before nuking an entry.
* ANSI/ASCII files showed [F]ilter for [S]earch and [S]how Details
for [I]nfo on BBS cuz I put the wrong ANSI/ASCII files in the
archives.. The correct ones are in this archive! <blush>
* The number of each entry now has 4 digits, thus enabling a listing
to contain 9999 entries identifiable by a unique number!
* The listing will not start renumbering the entries from 0 if you have
more than 255 entries!
* The BBS's Name is no longer formatted with the "Returning to
<BBSNAME>" when exiting the door.. The name of the BBS will be in
ALL CAPS!
* The [B]ack One Page when [S]earch is activated was misbehaved.. It
has been punished accordingly and had the bugs beaten out of it!
