The Rime List Door
(formerly PCRelay List Door)
=====================================================================
Starting with the first STATES.RPT (now called LOCATE.RPT) since
going to the Postlink software we all find that the BAUD rate option
has been dropped from the report. I for one am sorry to see it go and
it is beyond my control.
Program now uses Door Patch 3.8 (other versions used Door Patch
3.5) and supports the following BBS drop file formats: DOOR.SYS,
PCBOARD.SYS, SFDOORS.DAT, CALLINFO.BBS, DORINFO1.DEF, DORINFO2.DEF
and CHAIN.TXT. Compatible with at least these BBS systems: PCBoard
14+, GAP 4+, RBBS-PC 17+. WILDCAT 2+ and Spitfire 3+. Also supports
baud rates up to 115,200 BPS.
***** Attention Rime Sysops! *****
If you register this door you may deduct $5 from this door
registration or any combination in the registration form. You must
include your HUB ID and NODE ID. No discounts after registration!!
------ o ------
My programs may be on various BBSes around the country under
different archive extensions and types. This is the state of all the
BBSes around the country. I personally like LHARC better, slower but
smaller and suggest you give it a try.
The archive file should contain the following files:
RIMELIST.EXE RIMELIST.CFG RIMELIST.DOC
RLCREATE.EXE READ.ME SYSOP.DOC LOCATE.RPT
DOORS.TXT SUPPORT.TXT
RIMELIST.EXE is the main program. RIMELIST.CFG is a sample
configuration file. RIMELIST.DOC is this file. SYSOP.DOC is
documentation for Sysop (this document contains additional
information to the RIMELIST.DOC) and the READ.ME contains some bug
fixes (if any) and must be included in the archive file that is
downloadable on your system. These files may not be altered in any
way.
DOORS.TXT is a list of my current BBS doors. SUPPORT.TXT is the
current BBS where I do my support from.
LOCATE.RPT is the current copy of the text, was STATES.RPT,
database that The Rime List Door converts and uses to generate the
door's main database. This can be replaced with later versions of
same.
************ Changes ************
Starting with version 10.0 some of the program's file names have
changed along with STATE.EXE to RLCREATE.EXE, etc. The database used
to be called STATE.DAT and now it is RIMELIST.DAT, STATE is now
LOCATE, some extensions were 'SDX' and the are now 'RDX'. There have
been no file format changes, only some of the names.
Blank fields (9.00+) were changed to a single '?'. They sort out
and look better in the door. Of course now that the Postlink/Rime
LOCATE.RPT is out I see that there are fewer blank entries as they
should have been from the start. Thank you Bonnie Anthony!
First Time Installation
Put RLCREATE.EXE, RIMELIST.EXE, RIMELIST.CFG (configured for
your system) and LOCATE.RPT in the directory you plan to run the door
from. Run RLCREATE.EXE to create the database used by RIMELIST.EXE.
When it if finished your door is ready to run.
Upgrade from Pre-10.0 Release
Erase the directory and start over. You may rename your current
STATES.RPT to LOCATE.RPT and then proceed with the First Time
Installation, or you may use the enclosed LOCATE.RPT, whichever is
most current for your BBS.
------ o ------
My archive files no longer contains DORPCH38.EXE and BRUN30.EXE.
This was done to make the file smaller so that it takes up less space
on the host BBS. If you need either the DORPCH38.EXE file or the
patched BRUN30.EXE, they can be obtained from various BBS systems
around the country. If you cannot fine them, please contact me. The
filename for Door Patch is DORPCH38.ZIP.
This door comes with an example RIMELIST.CFG. It is supplied to
show you how to set up the configuration file. The file may be
modified to suit. Please try and limit the limit of your Sysop name
to PCBoard's name length of twenty-seven characters (total length).
The sixth line is for registration serial number. If you change the
"Unregistered BBS" name or serial number it will still come up in the
door as "Unregistered BBS" until you get a registration serial
number. No bulletin is generated by this program.
C:\PCB\PCBOARD.SYS < change to suit your system
Unregistered BBS < changes only take affect with registration
Boss < change to sysop's first name
Dude < change to sysop's last name
Your Sysop < Door Donor's name
0000 < changes only take affect with registration
On a network system you must set up a separate .CFG for each
node. Example: RIMELST1.CFG, RIMELST2.CFG, or whatever it takes on
your BBS. You must then generate the BBS calling batch files for each
different node, and in their own directories to separate them.
A typical batch file, RIMELIST. might look like this:
ECHO OFF ;turn echo off, not needed
CD \PCB\DOORS\RIMELIST ;change to door directory
RIMELIST RIMELST1.CFG ;configuration for Node 1
CD \PCB\NODE1 ;return to Node 1
NODE1 ;reload Node 1
A single node BBS would only need one configuration file, but
the steps would be the same.
The program, including Door Patch, uses six buffers, one through
six. Your system must have this many or more. RIMELIST.EXE and
RIMELIST.CFG must be in the current directory along with the database
and it's indexes.
Registration provides you with a serial number that will let you
enter your BBS name in the second line of the RIMELIST.CFG file. This
number replaces the "0000" in the sixth line of the .CFG file. Please
support Shareware!
Support Programs
RLCREATE.EXE
This program is used in conjunction with LOCATE.RPT. It will
extract the data, create and then sort the indexes. The resulting
files must be in the same directory as the door program.
It is suggested that you put the above program in the same
directory as the RIMELIST.EXE/.CFG files. Each time there is an
update to LOCATE.RPT, you just put the new file in the door directory
and rerun RLCREATE.EXE. The old database files are deleted and
replaced with new ones. After running RLCREATE.EXE you can delete
LOCATE.RPT, if you really need the disk space. I do not recommend
this since you might want to make updates to the list and rerun the
programs to update the door's database and indexes. You should always
keep the original file in some safe place no matter what you do.
**************** W A R N I N I G ****************
If you add a new LOCATE.RPT to the door, please check it's
format against the previous format to make sure that it has not
changed. If the format has changed, the database generated most
likely will not run properly in the door, and a new version is
required. So to keep the door up, do not add the newly formatted
LOCATE.RPT. I have no control over what changes, when, or any of the
strange formats and omissions in the report.
------ o ------
The current time to convert the database is about 20 seconds on
my 80386/33 mhz (19ms/SCSI) machine. Of course this time is being
figured on the current 1,000+ nodes. This is down at least four and a
half minutes from the QB 3.0 version and uses Turbo Pascal.
LOCATE.RPT
LOCATE.RPT is extracted from the most current RIME.ZIP at the
time the archive was assembled. It is a report generated by Bonnie
Anthony ->RUNNINGA (#2). It is suggested that you edit this file to
insure that the information, especially as it pertains to your BBS,
is correct before you run RLCREATE.EXE.
If is possible to do an auto update of the LOCATE.RPT using
something like this in your daily event. A line like "IF EXIST
C:\POSTLINK\UPLOADS\RIME.ZIP THEN CALL UPDATE". Where UPDATE.BAT is
something like:
ECHO OFF <optional
C: <drive
CD \DOORS\RIMELIST <door directory
PKUNZIP C:\POSTLINK\UPLOADS\RIME LOCATE.RPT /o <unarchive
RLCREATE <create database
C: <resume event
CD \BBS drive&directory
If you use something like this you must remember to move the
RIME.ZIP archive from wherever it is searched for or the update will
happen on every event. This way whenever Postlink receives a new
RIME.ZIP the door can be automatically updated with the most current
LOCATE.RPT.
If File Format Changes
If the data file format changes a new release will be written as
soon at such an event is brought to my attention. I do not always
have the most current LOCATE.RPT and the one in the archive might be
old by the time you receive it. Because of the varied formats already
in existence it is impossible to configure the software to fit. If a
standard format for files is ever achieved, I can do likewise with
the door and the support program(s).
Other Stuff
If you have comments on the program, please feel free to contact
me. Also, if program errors develop, please contact me at once so
that corrections can be made.
Usable idea's for door programs (games or anything else) will
provide the donor BBS with a free, registered, copy of that
particular program. This is my way of saying "Thank you" for your
program ideas.
At this time the programs are written to work on any computer
with an eighty column screen.
You can get all my door software directly from me by sending me
diskette(s), any PC format, to cover one meg of files, and include a
mailer with return postage. You may include postage and label for a
reusable mailer. See DOORS.TXT in archive!
Registration is for one BBS/Network configuration! More than one
copy may run on the same BBS/Network at the same location. If
ownership changes new owner must pay an update fee, which includes a
new serial number, and most current release.
