QuoteIt version 2.00 Baker Street Software
=================================================================
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Introduction
QuoteIt will produce new ANSI/ASCII bulletins each time that it
is run using a list that you make. I had a quoting program on my
BBS for a long time that worked well, but it was always annoying
that it would not allow me to have a blank line anywhere within a
quote. This program will allow you to do that.
The following files should be included in the distribution
archive:
QUOTEIT.EXE - main program
QUOTEIT.DOC - program documentation
WHATSNEW.200 - revision changes/history
README.1ST - upgrade instructions
QCONVERT.EXE - quote list conversion utility
QCONVERT.DOC - Qconvert documentation
LIST.001 - sample quote list
LIST.002 - sample quote list
LIST.003 - sample quote list
FILE_ID.DIZ - program description
REGISTER.FRM - registration form
The following files will be created by QuoteIt:
QUOTEIT.CFG - QuoteIt configuration information
QUOTEIT.CNT - number of quote that is currently in use
The following files will be created by you and used by QuoteIt
QUOTEIT.LST - list of quotes
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Using QuoteIt
Begin QuoteIt by merely running QUOTEIT at the dos prompt. The
first time the program is run it will automatically enter the
configuration mode and you will to configure the program,
entering the paths, output filenames, and colors you wish to use.
Running QUOTEIT -CONFIG will return you to the configuration mode
to make changes at a later time.
After configuring the program you will need to use an ASCII text
editor to produce a list of the quotes or phrases that you want
to be put into the bulletins, or you may wish to use one of the
quote lists provided. I any case this file must be named
QUOTEIT.LST.
To use QuoteIt the files QUOTEIT.EXE, QUOTEIT.CFG, QUOTEIT.LST,
and QUOTEIT.CNT must be in the same directory. Just run QuoteIt
in your batch file and the next quote/phrase in the list will be
written into the bulletins.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
QuoteIt files
QUOTEIT.LST The list of quotes/phrases must be in a file named
QUOTEIT.LST. this list can be as long as you like.
In the list you create each quote/phrase must be
preceeded by an exclamation mark "!" on a line
alone. For example:
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
!
Quote blah, blah, blah.....
Each quote/phrase may be as many lines as you like
and may contain blank lines as well.
QUOTEIT.CFG This file contains the paths, output filenames,
and colors you specified. Unlike the previous
version of QuoteIt this is NOT an ASCII file. You
may edit this file only with the QUOTEIT -CONFIG
parameter. If this file does not exist when you
run QuoteIt then the program will prompt you for
the information.
QUOTEIT.CNT This file is merely used by QuoteIt to keep up
with which quote in the list is currently in use.
You may edit this file if for some reason you feel
you need to.
QUOTEIT.KEY The .KEY file is where you put your registration
number that you get when you register. Currently
there are no "registered" features of QuoteIt, but
there may be sometime in the future.
