BRIEF DESCRIPTION
─────────────────
WWPhrase is a WWIV utility that outputs messages with
the user's personal information inserted. Messages can either
come from a file where they are chosen randomly or input directly
on the command line.
How to use WWPhrase
───────────────────
WWPhrase reads information from CHAIN.TXT, and so needs
to be run from the main BBS directory. The WWPHRASE.DAT file
(assuming you are using it) needs to be in the main BBS
directory, as well.
WWPHRASE.DAT is a simple ASCII file that you can edit
with a text editor. It contains a variety of phrases, one to a
line (though multiple line phrases are possible with @P), with
@symbols placed wherever you'd like to have a user's information
put. The first line is a number representing the number of
phrases in the file.
The following list shows the codes used and the
information they will insert:
CODE | INFORMATION
--------------------
@A | Handle
@B | User Number
@C | Real Name
@D | Age
@E | Sex
@F | Gold
@G | Last On
@H | Security Level
@I | Baud
@J | System Name
@K | SysOp Name
@L | Files UpLoaded
@M | Kilobytes UpLoaded
@N | Files DownLoaded
@O | Kilobytes DownLoaded
@P | <LINE-FEED>
All letters following the @, MUST BE UPPER CASE!!!
WWPhrase can be used in one of two ways. Just typing
WWPHRASE at the command line (or from a batch file) will cause
WWPhrase to read the CHAIN.TXT and pick a phrase at random from
the WWPHRASE.DAT file and output it. This would be suitable,
for example, as a logon event.
The second way to use WWPhrase is to tell it specifically
what phrase to output. Do this by including the phrase in quotes
on the command line.
For example, let's assume that the current user's alias
is Strange Brew and he was last on 5/21/93. If you ran WWPhrase
like this:
WWPHRASE "Hello @A, I haven't heard from you since @G."
The following would be displayed:
Hello Strange Brew, I haven't heard from you since 05/23/93.
A good way to utilize this feature is demonstrated here:
I hope you enjoyed your game of Global Wars, @A!
By the same token, if you ran WWPHRASE without any
command line parameters, it would choose a phrase at random from
the WWPHRASE.DAT file. The following might be read:
@K welcomes you to @J, @A!
Let's also assume that Strange Brew is logged onto Insomnia BBS,
where Calvin is the sysop. The following would be displayed:
Calvin welcomes you to Insomnia BBS, Strange Brew!
If you wanted to create a multi-lined message, just use
the @P code, as in the following example:
@A, this is line 1@PThis is line 2@pThis is line 3
which would display as:
Strange Brew, this is line 1
This is line 2
This is line 3
Note that if you append a /a to the command line that the phrase
you specified will be added to the phrase file.

Registration
────────────
WWPhrase costs only $2. Please support the shareware
concept by evaluating the program for 30 days. If you like it
and plan to continue using it, fill out the REGISTER.TXT form
and send in your check. If you don't like it or don't plan to
continue using it, please discontinue its use. Either way,
pass the shareware package (see README.1st) to friends and feel
free to post it for downloading on your BBS
The registered version contains a /Q switch, enabling
"quiet mode". This suppresses the Platypus Programming banner
that displays when WWPhrase runs.
Again, please read the REGISTER.TXT file for details on
the program registration, and how to save some dough on other
Platypus Programs.

Platypus Programming Support Biscuits
─────────────────────────────────────
Platypus Programming offers support through WWIVNet, IceNet,
WWIVLink, ASSnet, and *many* other networks. Look in your
SUBS.LST file for sub-type PLATPS! Support is available
through that sub and that is probably the easiest way to
reach the authors. The "home system" of Platypus Programming is
WWIVLink @18262, WWIVNet @8265, so feel free to send mail to #1
on any of those networks. You can reach us via Internet at
michael.lerch@hal9k.com
Feel free to write us via Snail Mail, as well. Our address is:
