  4.       GIFtest is Copyrighted by Dave Navarro, Jr. as of April 1991 and
  5. is covered by US and International Copyright laws.  The author reserves
  6. all rights.
  7.  
  8. Liscense:
  9.  
  10.    Starting with version 2.0, GIFtest is now Shareware, and no longer
  11. freeware.  This is to help offset the cost of development for GIFtest.
  12. You are granted a limited license to use GIFtest for a thirty (30) day
  13. period for the purpose of evaluating it for your own use.  After thirty
  14. days, you are required to either register GIFtest or stop using it.
  15. To continue using it is a violation of copyright laws and just not a
  16. nice thing to do..
  17.  
  18.    The Shareware version of GIFtest is NOT crippled in any way.  There
  19. are no missing features or timers.  The only differences between the
  20. registered and unregistered versions of GIFtest are, the Shareware
  21. version displays my name, address and the requested registration fee
  22. at the end of the help screen, and their is a 2 second delay after each
  23. use and "UNREGISTERED version" is displayed.  This does not cripple the
  24. program, or make it unusable, it's just annoying and acts as "incentive"
  25. for registering GIFtest.
  26.  
  27.    Registered owners will also recieve, free of charge with their order
  28. the following ulities designed to work with GIFtest:
  29.  
  30.    GIFbrand:   Add a description of up to 5 lines by 40 charactors to
  31.                a GIF file.  GIFtest will extract these descriptions and
  32.                "replace" any description typed by a user on ProDoor and
  33.                PCBoard systems.  Descriptions can also be "encrypted"
  34.                so that they cannot be altered as a measure of security
  35.                for BBSs that create original scans.  GIFbrand also stores
  36.                the original 32bit CRC in the file to help in duplication
  37.                prevention on BBSs when the only change in a GIF is the
  38.                addition on a description or comment.
  39.    GIFread:    Read and display any description that has been branded
  40.                into a GIF file and display it along with a complete
  41.                analasys of the GIF.  Includes support for GIF89a text
  42.                comment fields.
  43.    GIFstats:   Statistics program that analyses your GIFLOG and displays
  44.                a summary of all the information contained.  SysOps can
  45.                redirect this to a file for bulletins on their systems.
  46.    GIFstrip:   Strips comments, and "extension" headers from GIF files
  47.                to reduce their size.  Including GIFLITE header, secondary
  48.                images (multiple image GIFs), GIFbrand descriptions and text
  49.                comments.

  51.    Registered owners are also eligible for a discount on GIFLab and GIFLab
  52. Lite, a "graphical" version of GIFtest for sysops that displays what it is
  53. doing to both the local screen and on the remote users screen.  Contact
  54. the author for more information.

  56. BBS Distribution:
  57.  
  58.    BBSs are granted a limited license to distribute GIFtest in a compressed
  59. format.  The distributing BBS is not limited to the type of compression
  60. method used for distribution.  However, the BBS must follow the following
  61. guidelines:
  62.  
  63. 1. If GIFtest is distributed in a ".ZIP" file, the BBS must do it's
  64.    best to preserve the "AV" that GIFtest was compressed with by the
  65.    author.  If a BBS wishes to have GIFtest sent to them directly
  66.    from the author, please contact the author and a copy will be sent
  67.    either by US Mail, or uploaded directly to the BBS.  The sole
  68.    exception to distribution of GIFtest without the security "AV"
  69.    placed by the author is where a BBS uses a program to validate their
  70.    uploads that, as a part of validation, reZIP's the file for maximum
  71.    compression (not necessary since the distribution archive from the
  72.    author is created with maximum compression enabled).
  73. 2. No BBS may, in re-ZIPing GIFtest, add to the ".ZIP" their own "AV"
  74.    which does not belong to the author.
  75. 3. No BBS is authorized to add any files to the archive which are not
  76.    part of the original GIFtest archive as distributed by the author.
  77.    The sole exception is where a BBS adds an ASCII text file (containing
  78.    no ANSI codes of any type) as an advertisement, and the filename for
  79.    the file has not and/or will not change, and the BBS does not "cycle"
  80.    filenames for the purpose of "fooling" upload checking programs from
  81.    other BBSs which remove such advertisements.
  82. 4. No user may be charged any additional fee just to download GIFtest
  83.    from the BBS.

  85. Shareware Vendor Distribution:
  86.  
  87.    This copyrighted software and its documentation is NOT PUBLIC DOMAIN.
  88. However, GIFtest may be distributed at no charge, or for a charge not to
  89. exceed $12 US to cover shipping and media costs.  When secondarily
  90. distributed, GIFtest must be in its original compressed form and
  91. accompanied by its full documentation.  The distributed software and
  92. documentation may not have been modified in any way.

  95.    No secondary distributor is authorized to "register" an individual
  96. copy of GIFtest.  Registration fees may only be sent directly to the
  97. author as outlined in the manual on disk.  Note that the registration fee
  98. is exclusive of, and over and above any fees that may have been charged by
  99. a secondary distributor.
  100.  
  101.    A secondary distributor must notify it's customers that GIFtest is a
  102. shareware program and that the fee payed by their customer does not include
  103. any fees owed the author for use of this program.
  104.  
  105.    A secondary distributor must notify the author of their intention to
  106. include this group of files in their distribution.  A secondary distributor
  107. may be granted exceptions to these conditions, only in writing from the
  108. original author.
  109.  
  110.    The author reserves the right to change any of these conditions without
  111. notice and any changes become retroactive.  Failure to abide by this license
  112. agreement may result in either Civil Lawsuit or Criminal charges being filed.

  114. Special Shareware Version:
  115.  
  116.    The author will also provide any BBS or secondary distributor a "special"
  117. shareware copy of GIFtest that will display "Obtained from:[your bbs or
  118. company name here]".  To obtain this special version, contact the author
  119. and a copy will be sent to you at no charge, either through US Mail, or
  120. uploaded directly to your BBS.

  127.       Once you have registered GIFtest, you are eligible to recieve all
  128.       future versions of GIFtest for no additional upgrade fee beyond
  129.       any necessary shipping charges.
  130.  
  131.       Multi-node systems do not need to register one copy for each node,
  132.       instead, we charge just a $10 fee which covers from 2 to unlimited
  133.       number of nodes.

  135.    Shipping and Handling:

  137.       All orders REQUIRE a shipping and handling charge as shown below. 
  138.       These charges cover our costs in shipping your order and tracing
  139.       delivery problems.

  152.       Orders typically require 3 - 4 business days processing time before
  153.       shipment, and may take more or less depending on our order backlog.
  154.       US standard shipping is via UPS Ground, via US Priority Mail where
  155.       UPS delivery is impossible (PO Boxes, Alaska, Hawaii, and APO / FPO
  156.       addresses), and via First Class Mail for diskette-only orders.  US
  157.       2-day shipping is via UPS Blue Label.  All shipping outside the US is
  158.       via Air Mail.  Shipping time varies from 1 business day for UPS
  159.       Ground to New England, to 6 business days for UPS Ground to California,
  160.       to several weeks for countries outside the US where mail service
  161.       is slow.  Express shipping via UPS Red Label or Federal Express is
  162.       available; contact us for rates.

  164.    Payment Terms:

  166.       Personal checks may be subject to a bank clearance delay before
  167.       shipment.  All payments must be made in US funds and drawn on a US
  168.       bank; see below for more details on international orders.  There
  169.       is a $7 charge for all returned checks.

  173.       We are happy to accept orders from outside the US, but must require
  174.       payment in the correct form to avoid the exorbitant fees charged by
  175.       US and non-US banks for international check collections.

  180.              Checks which are not in US funds and drawn on a US bank must
  181.              unfortunately be returned to you, resulting in significant
