Q. All uploads go to the sysop directory. Why?
A. An upload will go to the sysop directory if you have "All UL to sysop"
set in INIT section #2, or the user has the "M" or "U" restriction set.
Q. I have lots of files I want users to be able to download, but none of
them show up for the user. How do I fix that?
A. You need to not only have the files in the correct DOS directory, but
you must also tell the BBS that the files are available for users to
download. You should first specify a DOS directory for the files (in
//diredit), then copy/move the files you want available to that DOS
directory. Finally, you need to tell the BBS that the files are
available for users to download. For just one or two files, just log
on, go to that transfer directory, and hit 'U' to upload the file(s) the
same as you would if you were calling remotely. For a lot of files, go
to that directory and type //upload. The BBS will then prompt you for
the descriptions of all the files it finds in the right directory. The
//uploadall command does this for all directories.
Q. All the files show up as "N/A". What's wrong?
A. You need to put the line "FILES=20" in your CONFIG.SYS file.
Q. Users can only log on using their user number, and the BBS doesn't
recognize user names when you try to send email (it'll only take
numbers). How do I fix that?
A. Log on as the sysop, and type "//resetf" from the main menu.
Q. A user had an SL of 255, and it won't let me lower the SL. How do I
lower his SL below 255?
A. To drop an SL below 255, you have to log on as that user from the
keyboard, and hit F1 to edit the user's stats. Only from there can you
set an SL to 255, or lower an SL from 255.
Q. Whenever I try to use the shrinking feature, I get the message "Can't
shrink: No BBS.COM". What's wrong?
A. You ran the BBS by running "BBS.EXE". You need to start the BBS by
running "BBS.COM". Either have the BBS.COM file in the same directory
as BBS.EXE, or (DOS 4.0 or later only) start the BBS by typing
"BBS.COM".
Q. Whenever anyone tries to batch download, all they get is the list of
files, and not the actual files. What's wrong?
A. You're missing the '@' in the batch DSZ command line. It needs to
end with "sz @%3".
Q. Can I run with more than one phone line?
A. No. WWIV supports only one phone line. You can't even do it with
DesqView or Windows, because WWIV is not written to support multiple
programs accessing its data files. Sometime in the future, there may be
a WWIV v5.0 which will run under Unix, and support multiple phone lines.
