GREETZ v3.01
By Brian Bosworth (DOUBLE CLICK //)
Double Miracle Software
Introduction:
GREETZ is a welcome/news reader designed to work with WWIV 4.23.
It was written in Borland Pascal. The editor included inside the program
is very basic but I will revise it in later versions.
Files:
GREETZ.EXE Executable file Usage: GREETZ {Path of Config}
ex: GREETZ C:\BBS\GFILES
GREETC.EXE Configuration Maker file
GREETZ.DMC Actual Configuation Data
MESSAGE.DMD Holds Messages to Next User Data
NEWS.DMD Holds News file Data
Instructions:
First of all, you must run GREETC.EXE. Follow the directions on the
screen and you should be fine. It just asks for your full path of
the DATA and GFILES directories. DO NOT include the backslash on the
end. (\) After you are finished it will write the GREETZ.DMC config
file in the ROOT BBS directory.
Once all that is complete, go into the INIT program included with
your WWIV 4.2x and install it as your LOGON event. (See WWIV docs for
details about that)
Example of usage:
Logon Event: GREETZ C:\BBS <- Path of Config file
*-* WARNING *-*
You cannot use the same config file that GREETZ 2.4 uses.
You must run GREETC.EXE that came with GREETZ 3.01
to make Greetz function correctly.
*-* *-*
- Be sure to copy GREETZ.EXE to the main directory of your BBS program.
If you already have a logon event and do not want to stop using it,
create a batch file which calls these programs (In any order you want).
Using GREETZ:
Sysop Commands:
[?] - This calls the On-Line help screen
[C] - Continue without Change -
Since GREETZ automatically tells if you are
the Co-Sysop or Sysop, it automatically
displays the Sysop Prompt with all the
availible options. By pressing 'C' at
this prompt, you are basically just getting
out of the sysop mode.
[D] - Delete Message for Next User
If you see that the message for the next user
is not acceptable, or you as the Sysop
feel that you don't want the message
displayed anymore, you can delete it.
[K] - Kill News
Deletes the news file
[W]- Write New News
Writes new news letter
New Features:
- The main things I have done to Greetz is cosmetic. Instead of
having only a half screen display, it now uses the full screen with
a windowing type display.
- It also now features multiple next user messages which are fun
to watch. I think the users enjoy it as well.
- Tells if the current users file activity is good or bad by seeing
the Upload K in bytes verses the DownLoad K in bytes.
Known Bugs:
- If, and I say 'IF' the user was to upload or download MORE then
32,768 bytes or 32 megs, the resulting action will be that his/her
file activity is bad, no matter which situation of UL/DL.
- Very difficult to get running.
Fixes:
Alot of people have told me that they could not get thier GREETZ
to work. I have made it simpler for them to install. Instead of
typing in the entire path of the GFILES area for a config, you
now only have to type in the root BBS directory, EX:
On my system: GREETZ C:\BBS
That should give you a basic idea.
Disclaimer:
I am not responsible for ANYTHING that this may do to your
computer. By using GREETZ 3.01 you are accepting this
policy.
