Oblivion/2 v2.10 Release Notes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to the new version of Obv/2! I know it's been overdue for
a while now, but we wanted to make this release mean something to users
and SysOps as well. There's over 100 changes in this new version, and it
should be an upgrade that was worth waiting for.
<< The WHQ has CHANGED!!!!!!! >>
The Fringes at 216-464-4856 is the new WHQ. Your handy dandy
SysOp is Darkened Enmity. This will improve support GREATLY as you're
only a few hours away from a speedy reply!
Like I said before, there's 100+ changes in this version. I really
don't think that you want me to list them all here, but a few of the major
ones include:
-- MBP.EXE, a utility that will restructure your message textfiles. It is
a much more efficent version of the message base pack command. It speeds
up message access times after you run it. Think of it as a Speedisk for
your message bases.
-- EP.EXE, a utility that will restructure your email textfile. It's the
same thing as MBP.EXE, but it will make your email a lot faster.
-- -N menu command that lets you display a stat screen anywhere in the BBS.
-- [K menu command that will let you use a specific config screen depending
on the CString.
-- ALT-V command added to instantenously validate a user.
-- [F menu command that fills out infoforms to an external file.
-- /PAGE and /TYPE commands added to line chat.
-- You can now use left and right with the pulldowns.
-- With STATCODE.EXE you can now code additional screens by specifing their
name in a x.LST file. (x=the name of the status library. IE: PMD.LST would
add screens to the PMD.LIB file) The format for a LST file is simple. One
filename per line without any directory specifications. Use this with
the -N menu command.
-- The configurable archiver system has been added in this version. With
the configurable archivers, you can support any archive type that you
want. You're not just limited to ZIP. You could add ARJ, LZH support
at your convience. The BBS will automatically be able to distinguish
your archiver from another one by the signature field. This gives you
even more configurability for your users since they'll be able to choose
which format THEY prefer. QWK packets, message captures, file lists will
be packed in the users format. REP uploads can be in any format, as can
file base uploads since the upload checker can also distinguish the
archives.
-- Added topten exempt, certified mail, and filemail ACSs.
-- DG menu command will let users download your data areas. So if you have
a BBS listing, users can also download it if they want.
-- FM menu command added. This now allows Obv/2 to support bidirectional
transfer protocols such as HS/Link. A sample HS/Link configuration has
been included with the release.
-- Added in the upload checker. You no longer need to run any more batch
files to test your archives. The upload checker has a configurable
screen called ULCHECK.ANS which you can add to your status screen
libraries. The upload checker works along with the configurable
archivers so it can test any archive type that you support. The
upload checker tests for CRC, age, can optionally add/delete/comment
files, and will scan for viruses. All commandlines are configurable.
-- Added some new code to the scrollback buffer. Made it work with BIOS
writes, and made it so that no ansis garble up when you look at them
through the buffer.
-- Added in a user index file. This speeds user searching immensely.
-- NDXCON.EXE, a utility that will update the 2.0 status screens and libraries
to the 2.10 format. There was a small bug with the old format, and this
will fix that. If you don't convert the LIB files to the new format, they
will be unusable.
-- Added in the "L" command to the pulldown filename field. This lets you
use one line bar menus. These are a little different than the other bar
menus, and you'll be able to use that to your configurable advantage.
-- Added in a new WFC screen. Made by FusioN of ACiD Productions. Hope you
like it!
-- QU menu command -- Updates all messages as read. This is handy for a new
user logging in so that he doesn't download a huge QWK packet.
-- Added in a help screen. ALT-H from within the BBS. This is for the SysOp
only! <grin>
-- Sped up OBVMAIL.EXE mail processor.
And a WHOLE lot more! Read HISTORY.DOC for a COMPLETE list of every change
from v2.0.
Conversion from v2.00
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The INSTALL program will take care of all of this for you, but if you run
into problems with the INSTALL, here's how to convert.
-- Run MAKEPROM.EXE, MAKEHELP.EXE, NDXCON.EXE, LEVELCON.EXE from your
main Obv/2 directory.
-- Copy ARCHIVE.DAT into your data directory, and ULCHECK.ANS into your
textfile directory.
Enjoy the new version. Remember, if you have any problems, let us know
on any popular network, or on the Fringes, Obv/2 WHQ.
