The Story Of Damian
It was a cold day, about mid-January, as Damian stared up at the clear
winter sky. The crisp wind might have chilled him to the bone had it not been
for the fur coat he had, and quite a handsome coat it was too. He was waiting
patiently outside the door to be let into the house. He quickly scurried in as
Akira opened the door and went into the kitchen where he knew a plate of warm
chicken with gravy would be waiting, Akira was almost always too kind to him
and he dearly loved her.
After finishing the chicken he settled on the couch in front of the
television while she took to her usually reading, within ten minutes he had
dozed off to dream about places far away. It was late when he awoke and she had
already gone to bed. He rose off the couch, washed, and went to join her. His
mind filled with thoughts of his family and friends, and regretted the secret
he must keep he lay close to Akira and fell asleep.
He was in the kitchen waiting for her when she woke up. After breakfast he
left to meet up with a friend of his that he had known for years. He strolled
down the path through the woods and shortly met up with Devora, and quite a
beauty she was, no other being could match the radiance that emanated from her.
They spoke for hours upon current events, television, radio, common people, and
lifestyles. Devora broke off the conversation and stated that she must report
back to the superiors.
It was time for lunch as he returned to the house. As he sat in the kitchen
eating the roast beef she had prepared for him he felt the guilt when she
looked at him lovingly and said "If I only knew where you were always running
of to for so many hours at a time." It saddened him as he thought of the day
when he would have to go, he would miss her smiling face and soothing words
dearly.
Many weeks had passed in the same fashion and he knew the time had come to
say goodbye. He stared at her for a few moments as she read and then rose off
the couch and jumped into her lap. He purred quietly as she stroked his soft
fur and licked her hand. He looked lovingly into her eyes for a moment and
jumped to the floor. Her eyes followed him as he quietly padded towards the
door. She rose to let him outside not knowing that she would never see him
again.
He walked down the path for the last time to meet Devora and the others,
he looked back towards the house and then joined the group as they began to
travel the short journey slightly to the north. He would soon be far away,
never to see this place again.
Akira had gone back to her reading when she noticed an odd noise, she
looked up and saw a glowing light that paused and then shot through the air.
Somehow she knew.
