  41. This posting is the introduction to the "official" anti-viral archives
  42. of VIRUS-L/comp.virus.  With the generous cooperation of many sites
  43. throughout the world, we are attempting to make available to all
  44. the most recent news and programs for dealing with the virus problem.
  45. Currently we have sites for Amiga, Apple II, Atari ST, IBMPC, Macintosh
  46. and Unix computers, as well as sites carrying research papers and
  47. reports of general interest.

  49.   NEW:
  50.   A new addition to the Amiga, IBMPC and Mac lists is the site
  51.   beach.gal.utexas.edu.
  52.  
  53.   I got an overwhelming response indicating that an explanation of
  54.   the various file compression packages would be appreciated.  I've
  55.   found a list, and posted it separately from the archive site lists.
  56.  
  57. If you have general questions regarding the archives, you can send
  58. them to this list or to me.  I'll do my best to help.  If you have a
  59. submission for the archives, you can send it to me or to one of the
  60. persons in charge of the relevant sites.

  64. The files contained on the participating archive sites are provided freely
  65. on an as-is basis.

  68. Public Domain, Freely Redistributable, or Shareware.  If you know of one
  69. that is not, please drop us a line and let us know.  Reports of corrupt
  70. files are also welcome.

  91. To get files from the anti-viral archives, you do not need access
  92. to anonymous ftp.  (However, anonymous ftp is the preferred method.)
  93. Below is information on accessing the archive sites using only email.

  97. One way to get access to the archives is through the BITFTP server
  98. at Princeton.  Send a message to bitftp@pucc.princeton.edu (BITNET
  99. address is BITFTP@PUCC) with the body of the message containing the
  100. single word HELP.  This should get you more information, and give
  101. you access to any archive site on the internet.  This service seems
  102. to be greatly overloaded, so expect response times to be a little
  103. slow.
