MONOWARE
There was no doc with this program, so take this advice with a
grain of salt.
MONOWARE will cause your color system (Medium res) to reboot as a
monochrome system! Pretty tricky, indeed. Since screen
resolutions don't match, your color system is doing a software
emulation of a monochrome screen, and that can be pretty slow.
MONOWARE prompts you for a speed when it first runs. It may seem
logical to select the highest speed possible, but don't. If you
set the speed above 35, chances are excellent that the emulator
will fail and that after reboot you will still have your color
screen.
So select 35 (or lower) as your speed. When the machine reboots
you'll know if it's in the monochrome mode!
NOTE - sometimes the program takes several tries before it comes
up in the monochrome mode. I really don't know why. Best thing
to do in this case is turn your ST off for about 30 seconds and
reboot before running MONOWARE again. You may also want to boot
up without accessories or other memory resident programs and see
if that is what caused a problem.
Hopefully improved versions of this program will be out that can
run mono programs at higher speeds. And if anyone comes up with
a PD program so monochrome systems can emulate color (like PC
Ditto does) you can bet I'll make that available.
