Just covering all the bases folks. Seriously, this program
works on my MEGA ST2 and two very different 1040ST systems. It
has been tested with hard drives and floppies. It has NOT been
tested with a real live 520ST but we have killed all but 512K of
memory on all our computers and run this puppy okay. Whether it
will work with your system is another matter completely. As a
good friend of ours says: "All ST computers are not created
equal." Or to put it another way, some computers are more equal
than others. LET ME KNOW if this puppy doesn't work on your
system. Drop me a line or EMAIL me a message on GEnie. I can't
fix it if I don't know it's broke!
WHY IT IS
All of a sudden this summer I started having trouble
remembering dates and appointments. Maybe it's old age; maybe I'm
too darn busy. I started using an IBM tickle program at work and
that helped, but I don't always boot the IBM first thing in the
morning. Besides, it was a lousy program. I decided to write one
of my own so I could use it on my favorite computers at home and
at work.
WHAT IT DOES
STickler allows you to create a file of important dates,
weekly or monthly tasks, and daily reminders. Then, when these
events draw near, you'll be reminded of them. Very simple, very
easy.
Since STickler is a GEM program, if you want it to run
automatically at boot time, you'll need a GEM boot program such as
HEADSTART or GEMBOOT. If you have NeoDesk, or Rainbow TOS,
STickler will autorun fine with both. Still, it isn't necessary
to autorun STickler, I often run it several times a day to remind
myself of appointments later in the day or week. If you can
remember to run STickler, you'll remember your appointments.

USING THE PROGRAM
When STickler is run it looks for a file called STICKLER.DAT,
which holds all the appointments. Keep it in the same folder as
STICKLER.PRG. Any appointments coming near will be printed to the
screen. Click the mouse to look at the next screen or exit the
Show Mode. Clicking BOTH buttons at once is the quick program
exit option.
After the upcoming events have been printed, you'll see three
main menu choices, DESK, MAIN STUFF, and EDIT. Of course DESK is
where you'll find your desk accessories and my little vanity
dialog which reminds you to donate and thoughtfully provides my
address. MAIN STUFF options are Add Date, Show Again and Quit.
EDIT options are Scan Messages, Edit Dates, and Edit Specials.
MAIN STUFF -
ADD DATE:
You'll enter up to three lines of message -> "Call the florist
and send roses for Mother's Day," for example. You'll also
enter the time of the appointment, assuming there is one.
(Use military time here. I debated using arrows but decided
it was more inconvenient than it's worth. Let me know if you
agree.)
Select the kind of event you want: STickler permits four
types:
1) ONCE - single date events, such as Mother's Day.
It happens once each year. Use the
calendar to select the date. To change
months or years, click on the calendar
arrows.
2) DAILY - daily things, such as a reminder to take
your medicine at 11:30 or call the parole
officer. (?!)
3) WEEKLY - these occur on the same day each week;
taking out the garbage, for example. When
you click on weekly you'll get another
dialog and be asked to select what day,
Monday, Tuesday, etc. Click on the arrow
until the day pops up then click OKAY.
CANCEL returns the event to ONCE but
doesn't erase any data you may have
already entered.

4) MONTHLY - these are events which occur on the same
day each month. Paying the rent perhaps.
When you click on monthly you'll be asked
to select the day, just as with the weekly
event. Then you'll select FIRST, SECOND,
THIRD or FOURTH, which refers to the third
Friday of the month, for example.
Finally, select how many day's warning you want. Zero
means you'll be STickled the day of the event, one means
you'll be STickled twice, one day before the event and on the
day of the event.
That's all there is to it. If you enter an invalid time,
you'll be beeped at. Entering no message is the same as
canceling. After entering a day you'll be presented with an
empty dialog for another event. Click on CANCEL to quit.
Clicking OKAY with an empty dialog also works.
SHOW AGAIN
If something flew by too quickly, or if you spent some
time entering new dates and want to be reminded again,
clicking on SHOW AGAIN will redisplay the upcoming
events.
QUIT
Exactly. At this time any changes you made will be saved
to disk. Also, the old ONCE only events will be removed.
These are removed the day after they are scheduled. In
other words, an event scheduled for April 2nd will be
erased on the 3rd.
Another way to QUIT is to click BOTH mouse buttons at
once. I call this the quick exit.
EDIT
In all cases, editing works the same. When an event is on
screen, you may change it and click on OKAY to register the
changes. CANCEL cancels the edit and exits editing. NEXT
takes you to the next event. Any changes made to the previous
event will be lost. DELETE will delete the event and move you
to the next event.

SCAN MESSAGES
If you don't remember the date of an event, this is a
handy way to look for it. It begins with the most recent
event and moves on to the one's in the most future.
EDIT DATES
Enter the date of the event you wish to edit. You'll
have the chance to edit it and all those chronologically
after it.
EDIT SPECIALS
The daily, weekly and monthly events can be scanned and
edited using this option. At this time there is no way
to move directly to a specific special event. You'll
have to page through them.
SO-WHAT'S THE POINT
There isn't one. If you like this program and find yourself
using it every so often, send me a few dollars or a disk or
EMAIL or a postcard or a yak. This is an evolving program.
Each day I find it more useful and I expect upgrades will
result in even more usability. Remember, I'll have no idea
what you consider good or bad about STickler if you don't
contact me. If STickler is to grow, it will require your
interest and involvement.
If you send $15.00 or more you'll not only receive the newest
version with your name emblazoned on screen, but you'll also
receive the next version free, just return the disk. If you
donate under $15.00 you'll receive my heartfelt thanks. (Send
along a disk and I'll send the newest version.) Your name will
not be emblazoned on screen, but your startup message will
note you as registered. This way your friends will know that
you paid. (They just won't know you're a skinflint, at least
until they read this documentation!)
