  45. LOADING
  46.  
  47. Double click on the HOMEWORK.PRG icon, 
  48. and the program will run.
  49.  
  50. The program file, HOMEWORK.PRG, can be
  51. placed in an AUTO folder. Then turn
  52. the ST off, insert the Homeworker disk
  53. in the disk drive,and then turn the
  54. computer on. Homeworker will then 
  55. automatically load and run.

  61. Cursor keys - to move cursor!
  62. (Del) - delete character under cursor,
  63.         replace with a space
  64. (Backspace) - delete left character,
  65.         replace with a space
  66. (Insert) - turns insert on/off,
  67.         delete or backspace will now
  68.         remove character and move the
  69.         following characters to fill
  70.         the space
  71. (Help) - centres line of text
  72. (Esc) - exit printing routine
  73. (Return) - moves to next line

  79. F1  -  changes character under cursor
  80.        to the first font

  86. F5  -  move 1/2 page down
  87. F6  -  move to last page of document
  88. F7  -  move to 1st page of document
  89. F8  -  insert a blank line below

  91. F9  -  delete current line - following
  92.        lines are moved up to replace
  93.        the deleted line
  94. F10 -  clear line - any characters are

  99. MENUS
  100.  
  101. HOMEWORKER - (INFO.) gives information
  102.              about HOMEWORKER.
  103.            - (HELP) list the function
  104.              keys effects.
  105.            - (QUIT) select yes or no
  106.              with mouse - last screen
  107.              can be exited by pressing
  108.              either mouse key, or wait
  109.              until the tune finishes.
  110.  
  111. DISC/FILES - (LOAD DOCUMENT) loads a
  112.              file - uses normal STOS
  113.              file select routine -
  114.              there are 4 sample files
  115.              on the disc, INFO.HMK and
  116.              INFO2.HMK, containing
  117.              these instructions,
  118.              FONT.HMK that shows the
  119.              three currently loaded
  120.              fonts. Use this file to
  121.              test the different fonts
  122.              available, and to select
  123.              the fonts you want for
  124.              your documents. The last 
  125.              file is TURTLES.HMK and
  126.              is about the infamous
  127.              Teenage Mutant Ninja
  128.              Turtles.
  129.            - (SAVE DOCUMENT) saves a
  130.              file to the current disc.
  131.            - (NEW DOCUMENT) select yes
  132.              or no to confirm.
  133.            - (DISC/FILE INFO.) prints
  134.              list of files and space
  135.              available on current disc
  136.              drive, and also shows
  137.              length of current file.
  138.            - (SELECT DRIVE) select one
  139.              of the drives - can also
  140.              be changed when saving or
  141.              loading files. Use with 
  142.              RAM discs or Hard discs.

  145. FONT       - (ABC) first font.
  146.            - (ABC) second font.
  147.            - (ABC) third font.
  148.            - (LOAD FONT) replaces
  149.              currently selected font
  150.              with one from the disc.
  151.              File must be a .HMF file.

  153. PRINTER    - (PREVIEW DOCUMENT) prints
  154.              document on the screen -
  155.              left mouse key to pause,
  156.              right mouse key to quit.
  157.            - (TEST PRINT) prints the
  158.              document to the printer,
  159.              but in normal text - used
  160.              to get a quick copy for
  161.              proof reading - press
  162.              (Esc) to exit - picture
  163.              names only are printed.
  164.            - (PRINT DOCUMENT) prints
  165.              full document - press
  166.              (Esc) to exit.
  167.            - (PAGE LENGTH) selects
  168.              paper length - this is to
  169.              allow for different
  170.              length of paper - 70 is
  171.              for 11 1/2" paper.
  172.            - (TEST PAGE LENGTH) sends
  173.              a form feed to the printer
  174.              to test page length.
  175.  
  176. EDIT       - (INSERT ON) turns insert
  177.              mode on.
  178.            - (INSERT OFF) turns insert
  179.              mode off.
  180.            - (CENTRE TEXT) same as
  181.              pressing (Help) key.
  182.            - (INSERT LINE) same as
  183.              pressing F8.
  184.            - (DELETE LINE) same as
  185.              pressing F9.
  186.            - (CLEAR LINE) same as
  187.              pressing F10.
  188.            - (1st PAGE) same as
  189.              pressing F7.
  190.            - (LAST PAGE) same as
  191.              pressing F6.
  192.            - (1/2 PAGE UP) same as
  193.              pressing F4.
  194.            - (1/2 PAGE DOWN) same as
  195.              pressing F5.

  197. GRAPHICS   - (DESIGN PICTURE) goes to
  198.              the picture designer part
  199.              of Homeworker.
  200.            - (ADD PICTURE) adds a
  201.              picture to the current
  202.              document in the half page
  203.              that the cursor is in.
  204.              Select file with STOS
  205.              file select routine. If
  206.              insert is on then room is
  207.              made in the text for the
  208.              picture. If insert is off
  209.              then the picture will
  210.              replace the text in the
  211.              half page. Pictures are
  212.              shown in text as small
  213.              boxes containing P's.
  214.              These pictures cannot be
  215.              over written by text.
  216.            - (DELETE PICTURE) deletes
  217.              picture in half page that
  218.              cursor is currently in.
  219.              If insert is on then the
  220.              text is moved up to
  221.              replace the picture. If
  222.              insert is off then the
  223.              picture is replaced with
  224.              spaces.

  226.            - (WHAT PICTURE?) tells you
  227.              the name of the picture
  228.              in the half page that the
  229.              cursor is in.

  233. GRAPHICS DESIGNER
  234.  
  235. General Information
  236.  
  237. The picture designer is selected by
  238. clicking on the 'DESIGN PICTURE' menu
  239. selection from the main screen in
  240. Homeworker. This will then present you
  241. with a blank screen in low resolution
  242. mode. Screens are drawn in black and
  243. white only, as this is how they will
  244. appear when printed. The designer is
  245. also menu driven. Screens are saved in
  246. Homeworker's own format, and files are
  247. only 7296 bytes long. Each screen from
  248. a document must be on the same disc,
  249. as they are loaded into memory when
  250. the document is printed. This special
  251. file format allows you to have more
  252. than the maximum 20 screens from a
  253. document on the one disk. The screen
  254. designer also allows you to convert
  255. .NEO or .PI1 pictures to Homeworker
  256. format. Pictures are slightly smaller
  257. than the normal ST screen - drawing is
  258. limited to below the menu, and to the
  259. right of the red line on the left of
  260. the screen.

  262. Free-hand drawing is the default
  263. drawing mode. Move the mouse around
  264. and press the left mouse key to draw.
  265. Other drawing modes are selected from
  266. the menu, and when exited will return
  267. you to free-hand drawing.

  271. Menu Selections
  272.  
  273. SCREEN    - (QUIT DRAWING) exits the
  274.             screen designer.
  275.           - (CLEAR SCREEN) clears the
  276.             screen - press (UNDO) if
  277.             you change your mind.
  278.  
  279. LINE      - (THIN) draws a thin line
  280.             in free-hand mode, and
  281.             when drawing lines, boxes
  282.             and circles.
  283.           - (MEDIUM) draws a thicker
  284.             line.
  285.           - (THICK) draws a thicker
  286.             line again.
  287.           - (VERY THICK!) draws a very
  288.             thick line!
  289.  
  290. DRAW      - (LINES) draws straight
  291.             lines in the current pen.
  292.             Move mouse pointer to
  293.             start of line and press
  294.             left mouse key. Keep key
  295.             pressed and move to end of
  296.             line. Release left button.
  297.             Repeat until all straight
  298.             lines are drawn, then
  299.             press right mouse key.
  300.           - (BOX) draws boxes in the
  301.             current pen. Draw as for
  302.             lines.
  303.           - (FILLED BOX) draws a solid
  304.             box, filled with the
  305.             current fill pattern.
  306.           - (CIRCLE) draws circles in
  307.             the current pen.
  308.           - (FILLED CIRCLE) draws
  309.             solid circles, filled with
  310.             the current fill pattern.
  311.           - (SPRAY - SMALL) spray can
  312.             in current colour. Press
  313.             left mouse key to paint.
  314.           - (SPRAY - MEDIUM) slightly
  315.             larger spray area.
  316.           - (SPRAY - LARGE) large
  317.             spray area.
  318.  
  319. PEN       - (BLACK) selects a black
  320.             pen for drawing.
  321.           - (WHITE) selects a white
  322.             pen for drawing.
  323.  
  324. FILL      - (FILL AREA) fills an
  325.             enclosed area with current
  326.             fill pattern. Move pointer
  327.             to area and press left
  328.             mouse key. Repeat until
  329.             all areas filled, then
  330.             press right mouse key. Use
  331.             The (UNDO) key to correct
  332.             mistakes.
  333.           - (CHOOSE PATTERN) press
  334.             left mouse key to change
  335.             pattern, right mouse key
  336.             to select pattern.

  338. FILES     - (LOAD PICTURE) select a
  339.             .HMP file from the normal
  340.             STOS file select routine.
  341.           - (SAVE PICTURE) as above.
  342.           - (CONVERT PICTURE) this
  343.             routine can be used to
  344.             convert a .NEO or .PI1
  345.             picture to Homeworker
  346.             format. The picture
  347.             selected is loaded and
  348.             shown on screen. Move the
  349.             mouse pointer over a
  350.             colour and press left key.
  351.             This will change that
  352.             colour to black. Press
  353.             again to change to white.
  354.             Press the right mouse key
  355.             when you are happy with
  356.             the picture. Note that not
  357.             all pictures can be
  358.             converted to Homeworker
  359.             format. Any colours not
  360.             changed during conversion
  361.             will be set to black.
  362.  
  363. OTHER     - (MAGNIFY) enlarges an area
  364.             of the picture to edit
  365.             detail. Move box over area
  366.             and press left mouse key.
  367.             Press right key to abort.
  368.             The colours of pixels can
  369.             be changed on the enlarged
  370.             picture by pressing the
  371.             left mouse key. Press the
  372.             right key when finished.
  373.           - (CUT and PASTE) used to
  374.             copy an area of the screen
  375.             to another part of the
  376.             screen. Move the pointer
  377.             to the to left corner of
  378.             the area to be copied.
  379.             Press left mouse key, and
  380.             expand box to cover area
  381.             to be cut. Position
  382.             pointer over top left
  383.             corner of area to be
  384.             copied to, and press left
  385.             mouse key. Repeat this
  386.             until all copies made then
  387.             press right mouse key.
  388.           - (TEXT) position cursor
  389.             with left mouse key, then
  390.             type your text. Press
  391.             right mouse key to exit.

  395. The (UNDO) key
  396.  
  397. To correct mistakes, press the (UNDO)
  398. key after returning to free-hand mode
  399. from a drawing routine. Does not work
  400. after the Magnify routine
  401. Can also be used to restore the last 
  402. picture edited when first entering the 
  403. drawing mode.

  407. ERRORS
  408.  
  409. Homeworker is a complex program and
  410. has been tested over a long period.
  411. Programming errors may have slipped
  412. passed this process. If the program
  413. detects a bug that has not been
  414. previously detected it will show a
  415. message and an error number. If this
  416. occurs with you will you please send
  417. me a note giving the error number and
  418. saying what you were doing with
  419. Homeworker at that time.

  423. UPGRADES
  424.  
  425. I am currently upgrading HOMEWORKER to
  426. include the following-
  427.     - automatic word wrap
  428.     - fonts saved with document
  429.     - display available fonts for
  430.       selection
  431.     - larger files if more memory
  432.       available
  433.     - printer selection - if I can
  434.       find out the control codes for
  435.       different printers! Send me the
  436.       details of your printer -
  437.       control codes for graphics 
  438.       dumping, line spacing, etc.
  439.       Maybe a editable PRINTER.INF
  440.       file would be better?
  441.      -Batch files for fonts, and 
  442.       automatic loading of selected 
  443.       fonts when HOMEWORKER is first 
  444.       run.

  450. HOMEWORKER is share ware. You can
  451. become a registered user by sending me
  452. $20. For this you will receive details
  453. of updates, and support if (?when)
  454. bugs are detected. I will also send
  455. you details of other UNDERSOFT
  456. programs.

  458. Registered users will also obtain a 
  459. version specific to their printer if 
  460. needed. Just send me details of your 
  461. printer with your cheque.

  464. copy of the source file for $15 from
  465. me.

  467. Please feel free to hand copies of 
  468. HOMEWORKER to your friends, but I ask 
  469. you to include this READ.ME file on
  470. the disc, along with all font and
  471. picture files.

  473. Remember if share ware is not 
  474. supported, then it dies a sudden
  475. death, and support for the ST goes
  476. down and we all suffer. Sad, isn't it?
