  4. The MSYS programs and related files may be copied for amateur 
  5. use provided no fee is charged. Commercial use is prohibited. 
  6.  
  7.        There have been many changes to MSYS, some major and many minor.
  8.        Here are some of the "major" changes:
  9.  
  10.        1. Support of PACTOR on KAM Plus tncs (ONLY!) has been added.
  11.        2. "Attended" Pactor forwarding on HF can be initiated from the
  12.           keyboard at the same time VHF forwarding is in progress.
  13.        3. Scanning of HF radios is supported in the Pactor mode.
  14.        4. A new TERM command has been added to permit direct keyboard
  15.           access to a port.  It is expected this will be used to perhaps
  16.           modify certain TNC or modem parameters.
  17.        5. Modem connection to FBB systems for forwarding has been improved.
  18.        6. The ability to read messages while listing them has been added.
  19.        7. The SR (Send Reply) command has been added in addition to the
  20.           REPLy command.
  21.        8. The BITs of personal messages are updated upon forwarding so if
  22.           the message is not killed on forwarding, the sysop may determine
  23.           which bbs the message was forwarded to.
  24.        9. The memory leak caused by an incomplete modem forwarding session
  25.           has been fixed.
  26.        10.MUTIL 15 has been updated to properly search R: lines.
  27.        11.If a message disappears during forwarding (sysop kill), the
  28.           connection will be terminated.
  29.        12.User passwords have been fixed.
  30.        13.A number of changes have been made in the Listing and Reading and
  31.           SYSOP killing of messages.
  32.        14.A SHUTdown command added to "encourage" current users to
  33.           disconnect prior to a QUIT.
  34.        15.A ListCatagories (LC) command has been added to the BBS.
  35.        16.A RBid command has been added to insert the received BID/MID
  36.           number in the R: line.
  37.        17.W0RLI compatable message forwarding compression has been added.

  39.                               COMMENTS ABOUT CHANGES
  40.        One of the major changes in Ver. 1.16 is the addition of PACTOR.
  41.        MSYS properly interfaces a KAM Plus that has the proper firmware
  42.        installed.  At this point, the firmware provided by MFJ and AEA does
  43.        not permit positive control of direction of transmission, a most
  44.        undesireable conditon to inflict on the HF bands.
  45.  
  46.        The second major change is the addition of the W0RLI compressed
  47.        message forwarding protocol.  MSYS is currently the only BBS system
  48.        that is compatable with both the F6FBB and the W0RLI compression
  49.        protocols.

  62.          BBS only version of MSYS (no netnode or TCP/IP, 
  63.          saves 100K memory) and various contributed support files
  64.  
  65. Cost per disk (360K 5.25 inch only):

  68. To Canada and Mexico    $ 7.50 per disk  (US dollars)
  69. All others              $10.00 per disk  (US dollars)

  71. These prices all include the disk, mailer and postage (air mail to 
  72. addresses not in Canada, Mexico, or US).

  89. Telephone number is 216-942-6382. If you make use of
  90. this facility you might consider sending the Sysop (Dave, WB8APD) a
  91. buck or two to support that excellent system. Baud rate has been
  92. increased to support up to 14,400 bps now.

  94. Special thanks go to Don, K8EIW, who did an excellent job in
  95. rewriting the MSYS Manual. Thanks also to Steve, NO8M, for a user
  96. manual. These two have also been very helpful in testing out
  97. over a hundred versions of MSYS since the last release.

  99. A couple of important notes
  100. ---------------------------
  101. It is not clear that compressed forwarding is legal in the US.
  102. It is up to you to decide if you want to do it. The new support
  103. for extended memory should be used only if you can't provide
  104. expanded memory as the extended memory is noticeably slower and
  105. doesn't give quite as much free memory as expanded memory will.
  106. Also note that the call server drivers have not yet been updated
  107. to new formats for some of the files.
  108.  
  109. In the future I see a windows version of MSYS that will not be
  110. as memory restricted as the current version is. To run a windows
  111. version you will of course need a machine capable of running
  112. windows or OS/2. The current version of MSYS will continue to be
  113. supported but there probably won't be many new things added.
  114. Mainly bugs will be corrected (a number of them still exist in
  115. the TCP/IP area I am sure).
